I have a 1952 Peterbilt model 350 that I ran over the road for years. The rear ends went out and I parked it and bought a newer truck. I have a 6x4 double overdrive and a 12 v 71 that someday I hope I have time to put it back together and hit the road again....I have been retired from over the road trucking for several years now. Glad to see that the art is still alive.

Great Video.... thanks for the memories, love the "corvette dash" Petes... last of the "good ones"!! I had dbl Over 6X4's behind my "built" 12v71TA's (built to marine specs, except they were not "TI's") in my 1974 and 1982 Ext. hood "A" model KW's... My 69 Pete (Ext. hood 359) had a 12-71NA with a 4616 compound 4X4 single Over, but after I built the engine, it wouldn't handle the torque, so switched to newer dbl over 6X4. I always liked the 4616 compound behind "smaller" engines (Detroits, especially), like the 6 & 8-71's... nice, even 6% splits all the way up through from 1st under to 4th Over. Never had to follow any "sequence" in shifting, all depended on load, gradients, etc, etc.... could "mix & match" any gears you needed... with Any twin-stick set-up. Drove a 1966 stub nosed "A-car" many years ago pulling a tanker on weekends, with a 6-71TA backed by a 5X4 with a live Eaton 3-way.... That was really "fun"!! Hope you get your Pete back on the road again, and take us from ride. Thanks again. : )

So you have six main gears on the near stick and four within each of the six through the far stick, giving you 24 gears? However, you prefer to work it as four "main" gears with six ranges. Did I get that right? Either way, the fact you were floating the gears as well as you were is remarkable. *Edit* Wait, I forgot reverse! So that's four reverse gears too, making it 28 gears?
@Bubbles8V92
@Bubbles8V92 5 жыл бұрын
Yup main box is 6 gears + Reverse - Aux box is 4 gears giving a total of 24 forward and 4 reverse gears. With some overlaps in forwards of course... i would shift them like this ::::: 1:1 2:1 2:2 2:3 2:4 3:2 3:3 3:4 4:2 4:3 4:4 5:2 5:3 5:4 6:3 6:4. If that makes sense

? If you are asking about the clutch this isn’t a synchronized transmission and its easier to learn the gaps this way... this was a video of me learning and im much smoother now

@@Bubbles8V92 synchronized or not, its a manual Transmission which should always be shifted with the clutch ;)

MrPummi88 clutching doesn’t magically turn bad shifts into good shifts... i find myself clutching more and more shifts but if you dont know where each gear is you can cause a lot of shock to the driveline by using the clutch to find your gear at a mismatched rpm and then dumping the clutch... also these two stick transmissions have a huge variation in rpm gaps between gears making them very hard for beginners to know where each gear is on the tach... your modern 18/13 etc transmissions have gears that are about 400-500 rpm apart making clutch shifting much easier but at this point clutching my two stick would be very hard on it until i become more familiar with the pattern

Bubbles_8V92 , not to mention clutching is the engagement of introducing energy to the road, standing still this operation of the clutch makes for a smooth takeoff, but moving down the road this intended operation is now otherwise challenged to a mode of operation that was never intended. Moving now with 50 tons plus when you push the clutch you introduce 50 tons of inertia to your clutch fork and plates and springs, not to mention those 4 little spring loaded fingers that maintain continual pressure, so clutching or double clutching in motion is a very bad idea

Sad, I have yet to find a video which EXPLAINS what the 2 sticks do. All the below comments are from truckers who know but no joy for anyone wanting to learn.
@doenerbudenking
@doenerbudenking 5 жыл бұрын
Well you have one stick for each transmission, so two in total. The left stick from the driver's perspective belongs to the main transmission with six gears, and the right one is for the auxiliary transmission with four gears. Essentially the auxiliary allows you to split the main gears into four more sub-gears, called Low, Under, Direct and Over. So you can go 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-1 etc. , all the way up to 6-4. Usually you don't need to use Low with the auxiliary unless you're very heavy, need to get going on a steep grade or if you're doing some serious off-roading. Of course you can also skip certain gear combinations and shift from 2-3 to 3-2 for example.

You’ve turned off comments on the Protestor post , so I’m here. And I’m only here, because you seem like a decent man with common sense. A few things with your vid ; 1- unless you’re going to show the footage , there’s really no point in speaking about it. 2- you pose the question -“ who in their right mind would run somebody down and risk jail and job ? “ - I’ll tell you, it’s someone who is acting on their emotions, and not in the right mind. It’s someone with a history of aggression , and anger. It’s someone who works for a company ( Brussels ) who I have multiple witnesses stating that they tell their drivers to be aggressive, by any means necessary. You’ve seen the vid going around from 2018 where the driver is literally driving into activists that are in PLAIN VIEW , and even In front of an officer who’s asked him - “ are you trying to kill somebody ?? “” and lastly, - it’s quite easy for you, to sit in the comfort of your home and air conditioning , with rights that protect your life, and freedom , to speak so highly of the standards set for animals in animal agriculture. Pigs are top five intelligent species, they have needs, desires, they go insane in tight cages , they have wants, that are stripped from them, so we can eat class one carcinogen bacon, which makes us humans sick; while the industry destroys the planet. Regan was doing THE WORLD a favor by being there, and she was murdered for her big heart of gold. Hope you rethink your position.

I agree that some of the drivers acted pretty badly in some of the videos. I haven't done that. Im worried that the actions of a few are being used to paint us as Monsters, I don't want things to escalate. Is there room for improvement in the meat industry? Of course there is, im not trying to bash the protests. I want everyone to be safe. I don't want people on either side to be provoked into doing careless things in the moment. I didn't feel like truckers were being treated fairly. I also hope protestors can understand more of what its like to be the driver with people crowding around trucks where we can't see them. I also concerned that after the terrible things that are being said about truckers may cause people to think they should "get even." I don't want anybody to get hurt.

Bubbles 8V92 I agree with you that we def want everyone safe, and avoid confrontation. I also agree that you all shouldn’t be painted with the same brush- you’re proof that all truck drivers aren’t evil, that’s a ridiculous notion, expressed in heated emotion. I have many friends who are truck drivers , solid dudes. Some of the best actually. I’m also not one to come out and say that it was cold blooded murder , because I go by evidence, which is yet to be seen. But from the footage leading up to it, and hearing from friends that were there, he IS one of the agressive ones, ( as shown by stopping in the street to begin with ) and she would have been in clear view after that, and if he couldn’t see , them he shouldn’t have moved forward. With Regards to “ improvement in the industry “,, - it doesn’t need improvement, it needs to be abolished. The greatest philosophers of all time, davinci, Tolstoy, pathygoras, Einstein, Tesla , all said we need a global shift to plant based eating, and that eating animals is barbaric. Leading environmental experts say that stopping meat consumption is the biggest impact we can make to prevent environmental catastrophe. It is the future, if we have one, and the sooner we shift, the better for everyone. Exploiting animals is unnecessary, therefore immoral. They are no different than your dog. And updated American cancer society guidelines states to avoid red meat including lamb, pig, and cow. With all these negative impacts, how can we possibly continue AND call ourselves intelligent ?
