@MickPayton2 жыл бұрын
@@davidmilisock5200 Hi David, depending on what you're looking for, wildlife or landscape, would be criteria to decide what time of year and which area to visit. I'm afraid that being a people only photographer I would be hesitant to advise on this, however the Welsh tourist board would be a good place to start I think?
@davidmilisock52002 жыл бұрын
@@MickPayton I photograph anything, far more interested in landscape and animals than people. I have streamed some videos shot in Wales and videos no matter where they come from are videos but the landscape in some scenes looks rugged, isolated and perfect for a person like me. However only having limited time to shoot and only one butt, I prefer to freeze it off closer to home. Looking for the best temperatures, rain doesn't bother me.
@marekward62022 жыл бұрын
@@davidmilisock5200 You should be ok from April onwards to October with the chance off it being a bit cold in those months. The UK climate is tame compared to some locations but follow advice if hill walking, especially alone. . Cardiff is a lovely city full of phot opportunity and genuine Welsh people. This reminds me of a beauty dish question I've had for years. If you're shooting a beauty dish and you tilt the dish beyond an axis where the light from the bulb can get past the the reflector in the dish and hit the subject, are you "breaking" some of the the physics of what the dish is supposed to be doing with the light to get the beauty dish feel? Or, is there enough light coming off the dish to compensate for the bare-bulb leak?
@PeterCoulsonPhotographer2 жыл бұрын
Without a grid yes if you tilt it too far you'll lose the look of a Beauty dish but if you have a grid on it you'll struggle to get light to the subject if you tilt of axis too much

Thanks a bunch!

Awesome little tutorial. I’ve been following your work for a while now and always enjoy it. I’ve been into photography for quite a while now and have shot full frame and APSC. I’m really looking into MF and wanted to get your suggestion in regards to the H5D50c or even older models like the H4 or even H3D39-50. I don’t have a massive budget but am just drawn to those cameras. If it’s in my price range looking at older second hand H3/4ish or even trying to find an H5 or would you go more of a X1D route or even GFX50s route? I love the X1D but those lenses are crazy $$$. With an H I’d just start with say the 80mm. I plan to shoot slow and either in studio or travel landscape with it so mainly the focus difference and CCD sensor of older cameras are the biggest decision. Is True Focus a must have thing? What’s your experience if any with the older CCD cameras? Thanks in advance
@PeterCoulsonPhotographer2 жыл бұрын
The older CCD cameras have great dynamic range very poor ISO. True focus is handy but it's not something you have to have I would go for a 5D over 4D any day.
@jdpst202 жыл бұрын
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer awesome thanks so much for the quick reply. Do the original H5 have CCD and upgraded to the CMOS with the 50-c wireless? I think I would try to get the H5-.50c as it would be a little more money but not be outdated for a while hopefully. Still a great too for a long time to come. Updated back display and a bit more modern and new.
@jdpst202 жыл бұрын
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer also comparing day an older H4 or H5 to say a modern GFX50s/r or even X1D for that matter what would you say guides you to the H series if you have experience with the other cameras mentioned. One of the main reasons I’d go with an H is the lenses seem more reasonable than the X lenses and two even though I use an EVF on my XT3 I sort of prefer the old school view finer even over looking at the back through live view.
@PeterCoulsonPhotographer2 жыл бұрын
I find the best is to try and get my hands on some of this gear and give it a try because you won't know till you try it and it cost a lot of money if you don't like it after you've bought it

@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer yeah it’s pretty easy to rent a X1D or Fuji but finding a H5 is a bit more challenging. Thanks for the help though!

Absolutely LOVED this video Peter! SO much so, I've just taken delivery of my first digital h/blad - H6D (50mp - on your recommendation). If I may, can I ask about your focusing technique? I see you tilt the camera to focus on the subjects face/eyes. I see there is a 'True focus' feature that seems really clever in that it corrects once the camera is tilted back down. Is that something you use or would recommend. We are so spoiled these days with the mirrorless cameras and their massively indulgent super accurate eye detect. The Canon R3 excels! Huge thanks to you and Bec for the incredible content. Greetings from the UK.
