As a person who has had a toxic relationship with the scale, I can say breaking up with it will serve you well. Your well-being should not be determined by how much you weigh day to day. I’ve heard you lament about gaining a quarter of a pound. Honey, that could be a poop. There’s no need to feel bad about a poop. Or even if it is fat you shouldn’t feel bad about it. I’m so glad to hear you’re willing to focus on your health.

Hi Peter, I've been where you are and want to share what helped me in the hopes that it might help you. I made some daily non-negotiables: a walk, a stretch session, daily affirmations and a calorie limit which put me in just a slight calorie deficit. I weighed once a week. I focused on those daily goals more than anything. I always asked myself what can i do TODAY. I stopped worrying about tomorrow or next week, I just focused on the day ahead. I gave myself a date in the future where if things didn't work,I'd reevaluate. I also reminded myself when times were tough that giving up wouldnt get me to my goals any faster. As long as i picked myself back up each time and tried again, i wasn't giving up. I think your personal trainer had some good ideas. Take a leap of faith ❤ sending love, I know how tough it is.

I feel like with your tendency to anxiety, not weighing yourself more than once a week would be perfect for you. Whatever we focus on expands / over time, becomes or can become, reality.

You need the personal trainer to come out to your home and workout with you multiple times a week. A personal trainer via a phone call really will not help.

I think it’s been a learning year! You know now what it takes to maintain. You know what won’t get you more than that! I know you’ve been so adamant about not cooking…but I will say that it would make a huge difference in your diet. You just can’t know what is being put in your food with take out. They use a lot of butter and salt and all sorts of stuff to make it really yummy. And the calorie counts are only an estimate! Not that you asked at all, and not that I’m an expert, but I think if you’re going to make a big change you should cook more. You can start smaller like cooking one dinner a week for a month and see how you feel! And using like hello fresh would be easy and fun. You could make it a date night!

I remember when I was in weight watchers the leader said you should consider exercise as adding to your health bank but it won’t really affect your weight loss. It comes down to eating less food than what you burn. I’d suggest cutting your serving size in half. As you get older you need less calories so it will be harder. Have you tried counting your calories to see what you are burning?

I really appreciate you sharing this and being so open about your journey. I’ve been on my weight loss journey and it’s been really hard the scale hasn’t gone down in months and it’s hard not to beat yourself up about it. All you can do is keep trying your best; I’m proud of you for not giving up on yourself.

Would it be beneficial to do a ‘what I eat in a day’ video and just vlog everything so it holds you accountable? I think that would work for me because I tend to do better when I know someone is holding me accountable (like weight watchers)

I think this is a great idea from your personal trainer!! You’re going to confront part of yourself that you haven’t been able to before and that will only lead to growth. Also, do you think weighing yourself so often has something to do with your OCD? It totally might not, but I just wanted to mention it in case you hadn’t thought of it before💙 sending love and blessings

Hey Peter you should ask your nutritionist about doing a fast, anywhere from 1-7 days fasting can be a great tool to get over a weight loss plateau. Only if they say it's okay for you health wise but it could be worth asking. Just an idea 😊 keep up the great work Peter 🫶🏼

Also some goals to consider. Getting on a sleep schedule for 2 weeks. Once that’s accomplished not eating between the hours on 1030pm until 830am for 2 weeks. Then work on walking for the same amount of time of time every day for 2 weeks.

First, try to be gentle with yourself. One year is a long time right now. But who cares if it takes a long time if you eventually get to where you want to be. Whether it’s one month, one year, or one decade, you’ll still feel amazing at the end of the process. Now as a fitness professional, here would be my recommendation. Instead of focusing on a weight loss goal, commit to the habits that will make you lose weight. Promise yourself to walk a certain number of days and hours a week. Commit to filling half your plates with fruit and veggies. If you can be faithful to your own word and be a person whose word reflects their integrity, you absolutely WILL lose the weight.

I think your trainer is really on to something! I also think it would be a great idea to take the scale out of the bathroom. Out of sight out of mind. You might be happier to make these videos every week, Bc you can update us on the wonderful things you’ve accomplished during the week that aren’t number focused. We are rooting for you Peter 💙💙 you can and will do this!

I'm the same way with weighing myself! I'm going to try to only weigh myself once every 1-2 weeks from now on as well! I'm curious to see if it'll help me. Today they did the lottery drawing to get into the NYC half marathon (13.1 miles!) next March 16th. I can't believe it but I got in!!! 😮😳🤯 So I'm doing my second NYC half in 16 weeks. (first was in 2018). I was supposed to do my second one in 2020 and when it obviously got cancelled I was so depressed. I had trained so hard for it and my physical and mental health spiraled that year once that race got cancelled. (Before anyone says "it's just one race", there is a lot more to it that is too much to go into in a yt comment.) Long story short, I spent the past 4 years really struggling to get motivated to try to get in shape all over again. Tbh I only put myself in the lottery because I knew if I got in I'd have no excuses and no choice but to get to the gym and workout 5 days a week no matter what. I'm tired of being out of shape and overweight and procrastinating about it. Now I'm forced to do it! Talk about no more excuses though. Omg. I have a 15 week "couch to half marathon" training program I'm starting tomorrow. I've done a few 5k races this year but the NYC half is a whole other beast. The good news is, I know exactly what I have to do. It's like been there, done that, just gotta do it all over again. 😂 Time to get to work. I'm dedicating my training and race to our best man at our wedding who did not survive the pandemic 😔 I'll be running in his memory. I actually broke down crying when I told my husband I got in the race. I've been carrying so much anger, resentment and frustration for the past 4 years. It's time to let it all go. With every step I run, I'm leaving all that behind and looking to better days. 💙💙💙 Not sure if I'll vlog about it but Peter, if you think it'd be inspirational I will! 🙌🏻💙🙌🏻

If you want the accountability and to keep sharing here, why not come on weekly and let us know how many days you’ve achieved your food/water/exercise goals and just not share that week’s weight? It might help shift your focus (and ours too!) from the scale? You’re doing great 😊

Your PT sounds like he’s onto something- at least it’s worth a try! Sleep and rest is a key part of weight loss, a quick google will bring up a few key studies. The other thing I’d recommend is to stop eating processed foods and drinks (soda is poison honestly). I’m not sure how good the food is in U.S supermarkets, but if you have the resources there should be ways to get good produce.. cooking a couple of times a week would be amazing. Find an ethical meal delivery kit and get stuck in :)

I used to weigh myself 2-3 times a day. That didn't do anything good for me. Not weighing myself at all is definitely not a good idea either. Once a week seems to work well for me. So I think it sounds like a good plan! Another thing I try to do is to look at it from a positive point of view. Like, instead of saying "ugh, and now I have to eat a boooring salad. I wish I had a chocolate bar! And then I *have* to work out... it's going to be awful!". I try to say to myself "yay! I'm going to have a delicious salad. And then I get to work out later. I will have so much fun doing that!". If I tell myself from the second I wake up that my meals are gonna suck and the exercise is going to be torture, then it's no wonder if I'm not feeling motivated. Not that I should be giving anyone advice. I'm struggling on my weight loss journey too. I still haven't found a way to keep myself from snacking LOL. But I am actually enjoying my food and the exercise. I will reach my goal sooner or later, and so will you Peter 😊
