The dating app commentary is SO real. The whole juggling act of “am I being too picky” “am I being picky enough” “am I judging them too harshly” “they look like they wouldn’t date me” “would I adopt a cat with this person” “could I marry this person (as if I could tell by their profile??)”. So real.

I think there is great generosity in you talking openly and honestly about your life and experiences. I can guarantee you that nobody in any relationship, at any stage of their relationship can see 40 years into the future! :D My natural setting is over-think too, or rumination as psychologists call it. But I have learned some self discipline to just stop when it's not serving me or getting me anywhere.

Try not to overthink it, see it as just getting to know people, and let it flow to wherever it goes. Sometimes when we overthink, and play out all the scenarios in our heads, it becomes much bigger than it is. You might think someone is out of your league but you never know, they could like you just as much, so send that little heart! Also, regarding what you said about someone who was interested, suddenly ghosting after you’ve asked them out, it might have been a little too soon for them. Sometimes people like to speak a little longer, to get to know someone better before meeting up in real life. Thank you for being so raw and authentic. I love listening to you speak and watching your drawings. You’re so talented, and also super funny and seem like a really cool person. Sending you lots of love and wishes of peace and happiness. 🌻✨

I think the fact that you carried on drawing and did not mention the pen once speaks volumes about how good it is. It seemed to just behave perfectly and you forgot you were using it - just as you should with any tool. I did worry about Daisy, though; I hope she's doing ok. Right, I'm off to buy that pen. Thanks for the (non) review which was so much more helpful than lots of words about it. Great drawing, btw!

I watched this about a minute after you posted it but I was half asleep and cosy so didn't comment then. Super video, and heart touching - I remember those dating (or more accurately, feeling obliged to find people to date) days with both joy and horror, and the feeling I would always be lonely and I would never find someone to love or to love me. I enjoy being alone, but I have now been married for some time to a really wonderful person and have my own little family (my 14 year old has loved your videos since she was about 8, and it was her that got me into watching you). They dovetail into my own introversion beautifully as they are happier in their own company, too. I know it's a cliche, but the important things in life always happen at the right time.

Omg, I relate to the dating portion so much. You connect with someone, you have great conversation, you relate on so many ways, you think everything is going well, etc. Then once you ask to meet up, have coffee or chill at a park, they just ghost you. I'm an introvert and it takes a lot of mental and emotional push for me to finally ask someone to go on a date. So when they just ghost you, for reasons you don't know besides, you think that they really didn't like me to begin with, it hurts lol. I guess I'll just try again 🤷🏻♂️
@fricki19973 жыл бұрын
It's been similar for me. Everyone's different, so it's impossible to tell what would be best - When to ask to move beyond chatting online, how long to wait, not knowing if there will be a better moment in the future or if maybe this is the best you'll ever get along with while staying online, if expressing the want for more will lead to you getting closer, or destroy something before it could grow naturally. Every social interaction is a bit like a "black box", or maybe Schrödinger's cat cage - you'll only know what's inside when you open it, and once you've done so, you can't move back. At least that's what made it stressful for me.

Peter that’s a really interesting problem, I’m in Chicago dating again after ending a fairly long relationship, and dating apps are so weird, even for someone that’s pretty comfortable and confident in most situations. As a little tip! I’ve always felt the less you can text the better, instead of texting someone all day, try and find an excuse to hangout. If it’s hot outside, complain about the heat, if they agree, invite them to a cool little ice cream shop. Inverse with cold and hot chocolate. You both like movies? Maybe you can make a lil date watching Wes Anderson films or studio ghibli. Also if you can handle it, some of the most attractive people I know have found healthy long term relationships with people that aren’t necessarily “Hot”, but are instead sweet, kind, and funny. It doesn’t hurt to be interesting or talented either. Best of luck! And thanks for all of the calming joy your videos bring.

Hi Peter! Dating apps are super awkward for lots of people, it’s not just you. As a fellow introvert who is very comfortable alone I can relate, I have no idea what to say to people on there plus I’m on the autism spectrum and communicating without body language and voice inflection is confusing. You’re never really sure what a person is looking for at first so I recommend being as straight forward and honest as possible. I’ve also found people to seem interested until I wanted to meet in person, I really don’t get that. I think it is intimidating to other people to be so comfortable and often alone, that’s a thing I have a hard time relating to other people about-- I like home, that’s where all my fun stuff is and my pets are there, if I have food I just don’t leave that much. Covid lockdown is pretty much already my way of life, lol. My dude, you’re handsome and interesting and funny, you have big beautiful eyes and a kind, expressive face with the sort of smile that makes others smile immediately. You’re smart and thoughtful and extremely talented, you’re not out of anyone’s league by any means, don’t sell yourself short. I can’t lie, being an introvert does make it harder but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. Introverts are resilient and Imaginative. Good luck, my friend. Also remember you’re not a lesser person for not being in a relationship.

I lost the person of my dreams, because I was intimidated by them. I wish I hadn't. I wish I hadn't walked away. I was young then. However, I must say, now that I'm older, I can say that I wasn't then ready for relationships. Perhaps I would have grown though, or even been the most content. However, I would have known what it was like to take on the intimidation. At 56 years old, I am still intimidated by things that stretch me with others. I can stretch myself when I'm alone, with my talent and abilities in private. It's with others I struggle.

You being so very honest about the whole dating thing hit a raw chord with me. I stopped with it about a year and a half ago after realizing that despite that feeling of loneliness, that I felt happier and more fulfilled when single. Regarding success on the whole dating online stuff... as a woman and as a person in general I’d say treat the thought process like fishing. If you go fishing every day at the same pond you’ll be lucky if you get a bite every day. And even if you do get a bite there’s a good chance it still won’t be one you want. Only patience and persistence pays off. Just treat each conversation as its own self contained instance and don’t take it personally if someone stops responding. Most of the time they stopped for a reason 100% separate from you. Just enjoy conversations and human interactions, because taking it seriously as though you’re really trying will only make it frustrating. Hope my strange rambling made sense 😅

Oof i felt this. I rather vibe with someone on a couch or on a carpeted floor with a video, music, audio book or pod cast on while reading or writing or drawing. It’s just that comforting thing that’s hard to explain but like, you know that this person is also content and doing their own thing and you just enjoy their presence. It’d be nice to just hold this person close to you too. Hear their heart beat. Just being in the moment with that person. Dating is fine but it’s more... meh. Especially being around really loud, crowded places. Hard to enjoy eachother’s company when being drowned out by 100’s of passers by

I loved your intro! So "That's what I do." I personally hate dating apps, I would rather meet someone in real life and have a chance to get to know them on a more personal level. I've met some doosies that I've taken the time to meet in person, and ALL of them were a NO GO for me. I seem to be one of those people who would rather be alone than with the wrong person though, just my personal preference. I have friends of course, but so far, none of them are my "the one" so to speak. "Would this person be willing to let me sleep in if I wanted to? If I wanted to cook something, would they like to try it as well? Would they be allergic to my pets? Would I be allergic to them? (I have bad allergies and need what I call 'unscented friends'.) Of course a whole lot of other things come into play as well. I think, when we're ready, we will find who we want to be with, but until then, I enjoy my "freedom" even though I am lonely. Thank you for opening some mail in this video, you get some really wonderful and creative people sending you mail! Much love and well wishes to all of you out there in the world 🥰 Stay safe and stay creative!
