When I swing nice and smooth I always hit the ball farther and much more accurate. Something I’m always needing to remind myself. Whenever I’m struggling I always notice I’ve been thrashing at the ball without even realizing it.

We get stressed and we tense up without noticing! I guess our body assumes tension/more rigidity will produce more precise motions when it's actually the opposite.

Peter Finch, you legend. The short comment - THIS IS THE MOST VALUABLE GOLF TUTORIAL ON ALL OF KZbin, PERIOD. The long comment - I've come back to golf after an 18 year gap. I'm working on a slower swing, I do ok at the range and then all the good shots disappear when I get to the course. Last week I shot my worst round ever up at Malkins Bank, and it took a day to realise that I was always swinging faster on the course than on the range, over thinking, no rhythm, not really a swing but more of a hit. I realised I needed to find a slow rhythmic swing, one I can take into my late 40's. I've figured a few things out, but you have just nailed it for me. THIS is the video I'll be downloading and watching before every trip to the range or the course for the rest of this year, I'm going to take everything you said seriously and work it hard, but slowly. I know I can drop 20 shots if I commit to this, so I will. Just so perfectly described, demonstrated and given to us in a way that we can digest and take into practice. THANK YOU Peter :]

I can’t wait to watch this video. I don’t understand how I’m 26 years old, 6,4 and pretty athletic and can barely strike my 7 iron 150 yards. Granted, I just started playing golf less than a year ago so I probably have a lot of swing faults but I watch your swing and it seems so slow and smooth and you bomb it.

@@peterfinchgolf just finished watching it. Love the tempo advice. I’m going to try to be slow through the backswing and gradually accelerate through the ball by mentally saying that 1, 2 tempo in my head. Also, the swing I’d watch and try to replicate would be the Big Easy’s.

If you want smooth effortless power - look no further than Louis Oosthuizen. A chip off the old block from the Big easy himself. Something I wish I could do is swing a bit slower and focus more on timing than trying to smash it as far as possible. Great advice once again Pete 🍻

Brilliant, Pete. More Hideki, Xander, Freddie Couples, Els, Korda Sisters in the backswing and transition to load and unload absolute hell on the ball. I have been a longtime ‘Slow and Smooth’ disciple and can get the driver between 122-126mph on average without slashing and flashing for speed. Quicker tempo swings for the untrained amateur will more times than not meltdown under pressure.

Last weekend I watched one of your “how to stop your slice” videos. I went to the range and put it into practice. Within 3 shots, I’m consistently hitting it arrow straight but only carrying about 200/220 yards. I’m going to give this a whirl at the weekend and see if I can clear 300. If not, I want my money back.👀 But genuinely, Thankyou. Before KZbin and people like yourself, it was expensive to sort these problems. Now it’s available to all, for free. I particularly like how you break it all down into small, easy to understand pieces so even I can understand it. Thanks again, keep up the good work.👍🏼

That all makes sense, in my current lessons I'm having the pro is telling me that when I'm slow and steady and keep that pace I'm hitting well, when I don't connect with the ball it's because I'm rushing my swing or not completing my back swing, I've had a few issues creep in and now they're beginning to get sorted out so I'm going to keep working hard and then work on increasing power at the bottom of my swing

This is a gem, Pete. Tempo, and rhythm is key to good golf. It’s why someone’s practice swing is fluid, and effortless, and then putting that scary little white ball in front of them makes them jerk, and lunge. Your swing is a great one to copy. Excellent tempo. It looks so effortless, yet you hit it a mile.

Peter, I just watched my first Swing Quest video. Yes I did subscribe. Also for the content of this video. Absolutely superb. Not only that I found the counting to be right up my alley. As a drummer for years I have counted time. Often when I chip and putt even I have taken to looking at the pin while gauging swing speed during practice swings…and as my pace quickens or slows I often count time like drumming to get the proper tempo. I’ve explained this to people and they look sideways at me like that’s weird. But it helps me keep tempo and not rush the swing. What a great video!! I do wish you and Rick would do a couple collaboration videos per year one or two. I know you guys are busy. But hey, if I’m asking might as well, shoot for the moon. Love ya brother keep up the great content. You and the team are doing fantastic!!

its crazy that so few people give counting as advide, it helped me soooo much with my rythm for me, because im german its "einundzwanzig, zweiundzwanzig" (twentyone, twentytwo) and that takes about two seconds while saying out loud. so if anyone speaking german wants to improve rythm and start counting i highly recommend trying this out

Fantastic tip. Wish I would have seen this before my last round 😆. Got stuck in a vicious cycle of solid golf hole after hole..... turnout of nowhere bam lost timing, rhythm, got stuck in the cycle of too many swing thoughts and the scores showed it. Then just like a switch everything was right back to solid. Weirdest round I’ve played in years, and probably the most frustrating as well. It wasn’t until I pretty much “gave” up on the round and was going thru the motions that I managed to string 5 solid holes together in a row. This counting tip would have definitely come in handy today

So Pete, with my club championship coming up in three days, I figured why not change my swing! I went to the range and tried this easy breezy crap and I just have to say...WoW! I really focused on not overswinging and went from a push fade to a straight/ tight draw with my irons. Contact was great and I was hitting as far, if not farther than a full force lunge grunt swing i was using. You might be on to something with this coaching thing!
