These bolts are torque to yield. Degrees are more precise in the plastic region of the material, instead of torque spec

Bongani Tshantshana Hello. Did you install the lifters to same positions. If we replace lifters position, then they could make noise.

It appears you are installing used head bolts. Those bolts are torque to yield bolts and should never be reused, they must be replaced.

Arek, you are incorrect. When torque-to-yield bolts are tightened they are stretched by over torquing them. They cannot be used again. Read the manufacture's instructions. You are wrong.

TK is 100% correct and you are incorrect Imjustanotherguy. I have the Toyota factory service manuals for a 2004 Toyota Matrix and it states you can reuse the cyl h. bolts if within the specs given in the manual. I do not have it in front of me at the moment but it's listed in step 47 or 48 I think. Your reply is 3 years old but I am replying in case it will help someone in the future. With that said, head bolts are not too pricey and it is a pretty time consuming job when doing this procedure on a Matrix,Vibe, Corolla 1.8 VVTi, so if a DIYer wants to be safe then new h. bolts are the way to go, but it is not required if the old h. bolts are within specs of Toyota's recommendations. Peter was just being nice in his reply to your comment in lieu of starting a battle what is right or wrong to replace or not. He mentions how one can check the h. bolts specs in this video in another part.
