This was a hard one to watch Kathy! I’m glad you’re finally getting the medical attention it needs. Yes, you can do hard things! I tell my middle school students that all the time. “You can do hard things!” It’s so inspiring to see you live that out.

I cried when Kathy cried while eating the spongey rice cake and tuna on the trail. It must have been so scary to be in the middle of nowhere with a broken ankle. We pray for a speedy recovery. Kathy is superhuman!

I gringed when you said you heard the crack!! I broke my ankle hiking alone and heard that! I only had a mile to get out. It's amazing the pressure you put on the sticks to make blisters! I only had 1 it gave me a blister too!! Im so sorry this happened. You're one tough lady!! I couldn't help but laugh as they wheeled you around!! Quite a work out for them!! Hahaha

Kathys attitude was great. What can we all learn from this experience. Trekking poles? Do you think a higher boot would have been better? Not looking to criticize yall are the experts. Just wondering what we can learn. Again hats off to Kathy and her fantastic outlook.
@Famagogo17 күн бұрын
Thanks. Yes, there is always something to be learned. We have talked about this a lot. On other recent hikes, she has worn her boots and brought her trekking poles. But for some reason, this hike seemed like it was going to be quick and less involved, so she instinctively went light. I think the two would have helped. She will be bringing them now on.

Sorry it happened. She was strong and you are well prepared and resourceful. I think she might have peroneal tendon injury which you might want to look up. On the bright side, you should be proud to know that this is the longest episode that we have ever stayed watching some one limping on the TV😂😂😂. We are glad the bones were not broken. Fast and furious nurse in the hospital was hilarious 😆😆.

No one used that in Peru. Just relax don't walk too much and rest
@Famagogo17 күн бұрын
That's what they said at the first hospital. It turns out it doesn't lead to proper healing. After further attention, it was revealed. It was broken in two places and had a severed ligament. It needed to be nonweight bearing and immobilized, then a regiment of physical therapy. We saw lots of people in Peru permanently limping. This outdated treatment plan is likely why. It's so sad. And could be easily remedied using current best practices.

$12 .. you get what you pay for … better than US healthcare maybe . seems worth it .. helps to know the language apparently.😮
@Famagogo17 күн бұрын
Pery is better in that you are paid in full and know what the cost is when leaving the hospital. Unlike us in the USA, signing an agreement to pay whatever they decide months afterwards. But our facitities and doctors expertise are much better in the USA. So parts are good and parts are bad. I was blown away how hard it was to find a simple ankle brace or walking boot/cast.
