I bought my 6105-8119 in 1976 at the Base Exchange at Barksdale AFB. I wore it every day for 15 years until the crystal was so scratched it wasn’t readable. I put it away until I was watching Wristwatch Revival on KZbin and he was restoring a 6105 he bought. I had no idea my old Seiko was collectable. I sent it out to be restored and wear it frequently.

@@Mikael5732 yea. I replaced the crystal because it was horribly scratched and had its first service done on it. It’s got some small scratches on the case but it runs well and I wear it once a week or so. I have a bunch of other watches,nothing hugely expensive. The most expensive is a Seiko SPB 247,and a couple other Seiko’s. A couple Citizens,an Accutron and some AV8’s. They all wouldn’t add up to the cheapest Rolex. Some people are into jewelry,I’m into watches.

@@fw1421 I know what you mean. I am into watches also. I have an old Seiko 6309-7290 that I like a lot: needs servicing so I bought a Seiko SRPE093, it’s okay and I like day/date. Have an old first year Bulova Accutron, a couple of Citizen dive watches(I like those a lot), an old basic Omega automatic from the early ‘70s. One old titanium LumiNox and believe it or not, a couple of SteelDive watches. Also an old Seiko SQ dress watch that was given to me but keeps perfect time. Glad you got your 6105 up to par. Destiny perhaps Peter?... This same watch fascinated me too growing up. My cult watch is the Benrus relating to Steve McQueen from the Bullitt movie. I have probably 6? As a kid though my first watch was a Unicorn. My late father gave it to me when I was 7 years old. About 3-4 years later, I had an uncle down & out. Dad asked would I give him my watch. I did. Some time later dad bought me a new Citizen with a date for my birthday! Wow! Years go bye & randomly on good old eBay about 2 years ago, I found almost the same exact model Unicorn in fantastic condition. I wear it on rare occasions & it keeps perfect time, I guess with the Rolex movement. Anyway I think some things are meant to be mate. Enjoy your “Apocalypse” watch👍🏼😎

Hi Steve, the best person to service this in the UK would be Duncan Hewitt (Google the watch bloke). If he is too busy try watchguy.co.uk , they serviced my Seiko 6309 a couple of years ago & made a good job of it. It may worth buying a new crystal from Klein vintage vintage watch in the US, as they are exact copies of the originals & very high quality. New seals can also be sourced from VTA (vintage time Australia) on eBay, they also service Seiko watches. Hope this helps! Cheers

EXTREMELY small scratches, original scratches, bezel, lum, etc. never taken out of storage until two weeks ago and I am completely in love with this watch. However, my bezel does not move so easily. It’s a little forceful. Which I don’t mind because I will not be moving it.

Made back in the day Seiko made superlative watches. You'll be hard pressed to find a new Seiko Divers that the bezel lines up perfectly. If you have the J version of the SKX then yes that will likely be fine and in general the fit and finish and time keeping maybe acceptable.. You are extremely lucky owning that watch enjoy it... I'd put it on a Perlon tropic nylon style strap myself - no concern of it cracking and perishing - just my experience of rubber straps. Though not cheap Benetto rubber straps are extremely good and would suit that watch.

Was always a Rolex Submariner fan and never paid much attention to the cushion case Seikos. Even from the Apocalypse Now movie I was more interested interested in Col. Kurtz's 1675 GMT Master with the missing bezel. This year I've been bitten by the military watch bug researching the history of CWC and Seikos being sold at PXs. While the 6105 history intrigues me, it's locking crown is inferior to the Rolex and Tudor's twin lock threaded crown of the 60s and 70s which to me casts a shadow over the 6105's design. Don't get me wrong. A reissue may be in my future collection but this solidifies why imo Rolex will always be king of the tool dive watch. The $50 Chinese Steeldive 1970 homage with a proper screw down crown has better water resistance.

@@PeterKotsa Yes, i'm thinking of replacing the crystal because its so scratched you can barely see the dial and its not even domed at this point, would that be okay?
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
@@rehakmate if you cannot see the dial, then it is very difficult to enjoy it I guess. If you can find a replacement crystal, I do not see why you should not get it replaced, search around I am sure there should be something around, you will get so many more years out of it, with a new crystal and enjoy it even more, seeing it is you're grandfathers....that's excellent!!!

@@PeterKotsa Yeah i was thinking about the same, finding a crystal is not a problem, my local watch repairman can make any crystal specific for the watch.

Do you know how to determine the manufacturing date of the Willards of that time? mine has a serial number in the back that reads 691401 but I was told it was manufactured in 1976...

Did you know Harvey Keitel was originally cast as Willard? He had actually served in the marines, however he was too “real” and “active” so they went with Martin Sheen who is more of an observer of the war rather than a direct participant. It gives the viewer an amazing perspective you don’t usually get. Great review as always Peter 👍

@@PeterKotsa no worries, if you’re interested there is a great documentary about the making of apocalypse now called ‘heart of darkness: a filmmakers apocalypse’ its very good, explains a lot about why certain bits are shot in a certain way, for example you rarely really see Marlon Brando in full in shot - thats because he committed to lose weight for the roll and didn’t, so Francis Ford Coppola had to work around that and a myriad of other issues, very interesting 👍👍👍

It’s my favorite movie of all time and I did not know that… Thank you for your comment.

@@Hialeah1925 Nowadays if you buy the multi-disc special edition Bluray, it contains all the information available in the extras (documentaries). If it's your favorite movie of all time you would be crazy not to buy that special edition set which contains both cuts (original and redux) of the movie.
