Link was a lefty up until nintendo wanted to add motion controls. In twilight princess on the gamecube, he was left-handed, then they flipped the entire game for the Wii since most people are right-handed. Then it kept going for the home console games (not including remakes).

The groove of the blade (called a Fuller), is actually a means of reducing the weight of a blade without sacrificing any of its strength. That Works, a rebooted channel of Man At Arms: Reforged has some good videos about the topic

I find it amazing people believe it's a blood grove, just standing there with your sword in someone so they can attack back has got to be the worst thing you could possibly do in a sword fight.
@superiorsoy4 жыл бұрын
@@bloodypommelstudios7144 Ah until reading the OP I was one of those people. I heard it was because it stops the body forming a sort of vacuum around the sword, which would make the sword more difficult to pull out of the body you've just stabbed if it didn't have those grooves.
@djProduct20083 жыл бұрын
@@superiorsoy They're historically known as 'blood grooves' or 'blood gutters' despite that not being their purpose. No one should feel bad for incorrectly thinking so. Also interesting "Fuller" is the name of the sword part, but also the blacksmithing tool that creates it. The fuller tool is a type of swage, or imprint/die tool in blacksmithing. You totally call them "blood grooves" in front of attacking orcs tho :)

The centerline of the sword is called a fuller, it adds strength to the blade while reducing the weight to size ratio. Less material to make a wider blade.

Minus some weird sprite/graphics issues in early titles, Link has pretty much been left handed the whole time. It became more noticeable on the N64, when he entered 3D, and that continued until they released a completely flipped game world of Twilight Princess on the Wii. Unfortunately it's kind of being left in place, when, they should really be leaving him left handed. I rather liked the left handedness cause it helped to give him much more character. Zelda and Ganon/Ganondorf are right handed, but, Link himself was left handed, and I feel that it just helped to add a little bit more detail to the world. I will forever refuse a right handed Link as being canon. And, with the redesign you've done he looks a bit like the Minish Cap version.

The question of weather Link is left or right handed has been chalked up to what generation the hero is born, just like our own generations, some times there is a generation where the hero known as Link is left handed. the exception seems to be in ALTTP where he seems to be ambidextrous.

Link started off as a Lefty as the creator is a lefty as well. Over the years they kind of did away with it to sell the wiimote functionality, making him more right hand dominant. It's kind of sad that part of his identity was lost so nintendo could move units on gimick that didn't carry over entirely to the next generation of console.

They can be either.
@Yuzuki13374 жыл бұрын
So the way I understood it is with things that are moving or reused in many different places (like the player character or enemies), you bake a transparent shadow (desaturation) into the sprite so that the shadow works on every background. Basically on a green background you would produce are darker green shadow, on a yellow background you would produce a darker yellow background etc. With static things you can just shade it with colours in the sprite itself. :)
