Dwight knows there's no point in trying to top George and Tammy, so he makes it his own. He's a master of cover versions, on top of being a master songwriter himself. To me, he's the James Dean of Country music. Cool A F!

I saw Emmylou Harris & Dwight Yoakam perform at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta (circa 1987-ish.) That performance was Music to my Ears. Dwight had his back to the audience as he opened for Emmylou. They later did a couple of songs together... Dwight Yoakam and the "Red Dirt Girl" from Birmingham, Alabama, Emmylou! I guarantee that Gram Parsons is smiling, along with other giants including Waylon, George & Tammy, Johnny and June too. These were people that helped Emmylou get into the Country Western scene in the mid - late 1970's. Now that same Red Dirt Girl from Alabama is being honored by many young Country Swing listeners as they are enjoying, learning, experiencing from the old timey country and western artists. This new generation of what I call "Hollywood Country"music are the rage today, but let us all remember that others paved the road for them by paying their dues thru Juke Joints to opening for Glen Campbell, Buck Owens, George, Loretta. Dwight and Emmylou took this great song into my generation via local fairs, beer joints, small town bandstands, AM/FM radio.... Every True Country Music Fan needs to hear this one song that captures the very essence of real country music! "Many Thanks!

It was my first date with my now wife (who never heard country music before) and after the show it was raining a bit and Emmylou asked us on her bus to sign our program and chatted with us for a few minutes. She ask about our lives, and what we thought of the show and liked that it was our first date. What a nice lady. My now wife never did take to the music, too much but she was impressed I guess.

At a concert in Seattle, many lifetimes ago, I was watching KD Lang perform. Suddenly, some slid up beside me to get a better. I heard the voice behind me say, "She is really great." I paid little attention, until the announcer invited Dwight Yoakam to the stage. As he brushed past me, he handed me a backstage pass. The rest is history. By the way, he is really a nice person.
