As someone who grew up and still lives in a small town in Scotland, footage like this and from other vloggers is invaluable. Corporate media will NEVER give you the truth... people willing to charge their camera and get in there, honestly to speak to people, you'll hear their genuine side of things. Can't possibly put a price on this kind of insight.

I lived in East LA in the 80s, and watching this video brought back memories! That very King Taco was a favorite spot after a Roosevelt football game! Back then, it was common to lose someone to drugs, alcohol or gang life. It was very inspiring to hear from the warriors who survived their ordeal and are now thriving! Praying for continued blessings for everyone in the video and to anyone with a similar story. Excellent video and message.

That guy who was homeless but still holding a job, getting cleaned up to look presentable for work , getting sober, renting a room to see his family in, spending every cent he had on his kids and letting them be kids and not know his struggles, is a real man. There’s many like him in our culture, that used to be what was expected of from a Father, a Husband, and an overall respectable man. He did the impossible to be a better man for his family. So proud of him and the others.
@MattCarlson-hw7vm
@MattCarlson-hw7vm Жыл бұрын
I have a lot of respect for the man for what he did to combat a horrible situation, and how he put his kids first no matter what. That said, he also made decisions to get him into the place he was, likely hurt people, robbed people, committed violent crimes, and who knows what else. The culture he grew up in, and the decisions he made, are responsible for a lot of pain and suffering. Good on him for pulling himself out, but to claim that the many like him are a positive thing, is perhaps part of the reason these things keep happening. Glorifying this life is going to cause more harm than good, and where I am from, what we call a "respectable man" seems very different. That said, I really do respect how he handled the situation, I just don't think you can take the good without the bad.

Man, it hit me hard when he was talking about being homeless but spending all his money on making sure his kids were good. I wish more people would realize even addicts are human and capable of being great people, even in the depths of their addiction. I have been clean since September 27th 2017 but even when I was using, I never stole a dime or did anything shady to support my habit. If I didn't have the money to get anything, I sat there and ate the withdrawals. There are addicts out there who don't lose their morals. And even the ones who do can be good people, if given the chance to be.

Sheewww man, OG had me in tears speaking about his journey starting recovery. As a H addict myself I felt his words in my soul because I know that prayer of desperation and the humility it takes. Active addiction beats you down to the pits of hell and it takes clawing and digging to fight for your life. It's no journey for the weak but the last thing you feel is strength and worth.

Not the ones that just learn from a book. I love Mexican people. They are good hearted, just don’t get on their bad side 🙃. Everyone wants to be respected not belittled. No one deserves that. Lots of love and respect! I am from Russia/Armenian, we came to the U.S. in the mid 90's, and settled in East Los Angeles. Did not speak a word English, and while that all being said, our community showed us nothing but love. I still remember, and will never forget the people that where around us, that accepted us. We later moved to the valley (Sherman Oaks), and later to the BH, Brentwood area, but I still always drifted towards Latinos, as that is the culture that is closest to me, and my best friends and people that I consider family are still part of my life. I have moved to Russia about 6 years ago, and the things that I miss, is the people, the food, the culture, something that I grew up around (I was about 8 years old when I moved from Russia to Los Angeles)

I remember back in the 70's I lived in East LA with my family and we were the only Puerto Rican family in the area. I went to Brooklyn ave school and had some friends Smiley, Lapa, Chalillo and others from cholo maravilla and I went to the boys club. That was the start of getting cojones. I lived on the corner of McDonnell and New York across the street from the school. I saw and experienced in real life the life of the Cholos. Wow what a flashback 😁👍

Loving these videos Peter! This one really hit home and the OG’s spitting facts and owning up to their own action. I was homeless for a year and a half and just recently got a roof over my head, it’s not day to day anymore, but in a way it is. Adjusting to finally having structure, a platform to build up from. From the love from others, they didn’t even know severe my situation was and still is toa point. But now have a platform to build off of, is what was needed and surrounding yourself with good people. Much love Peter an to these Og’s ❤👊

As a Mexican American when I went to LA I HAD TO spend most of my time in East Los.. we ate at King Taco.. drove up and down Whittier Blvd.. went to El Pino.. we went to Los Cinco Puntos a few times because my grandpa was in love with the Nopales there.. we went to the Nike store there and got some great deals too.. stopped and seem some of the beautiful murals (Chicano Art) this video made me feel like we hit all the right spots when we were there! My family comes from Texas so us Tex Mex Mexicans have wayyy different food and everyone loves what they grew up on so even though I wasn't a fan of the tamales at Los Cinco Puntos, I'm glad I tried them. It was a different experience and it's good to know about our culture and how it's different all over the country! Much love to the culture and mi gente!

I’m dealing with addiction and it’s weed but hearing these guys stories, people I can actually relate to and hear them speak positively about soberness and mental health! When he said it is scientists who are developing these drugs. It reminded me of an incident at a local university. There was a graduate chemistry student working at the university. Somehow someone found out that he was making a drug. I think it was a professor who saw the setup and knew what was going on. The professor told the university and they informed the local PD. The PD watched that grad student and when he was doing the last step something spooked him and he left the drug where it was sitting. He may have spotted someone watching him.

Back in the day in the Ontario, California barrio, a common joke started with the question “what’s the difference between a low rider and an active hard-core cholo gang member?” The punchline was “low riders had cherry condition cars while if a cholo had a car at all it was banged up, primered & often had a few bullet holes. these veterans in the video are no longer active. Thus they have gravitated to the finer aspects of Chicano Street life, the Lowrider. Much respect to them from my heart.

Interesting. I never noticed on the earlier Chicano videos that Ernie's last name is Moran. That's my maiden name. I did some research once on it's origins and traced it back to Ancient Celts that migrated to what we now know as Spain. They became the Gallaecians who still exist as an autonomous community today in modern Spain.

FYI - it's a common Irish surname also.

@shotgunbettygaming Жыл бұрын
@@Sdakouls3 Right...Irish is a Celtic language. Moran specifically derives from Moraine which has been traced back to, as I stated, the Celts who migrated southerly to what is now Spain. Because of the correlation to the Moraine surname, it is believed it originates from again, the Celtic peoples from around the modern day Ireland/Scotland areas. Perhaps I should have been more specific instead of saying Celts?🤔

So often I've seen young minority people from privileged positions telling other people to "shut up and listen," before just going into a a diatribe about the person's failures in understanding, and failure to fix things, regardless of the standing of who they're talking to. It reaches nobody. This is the guy who is actually shutting up and listening, letting people talk for themselves and not interjecting beyond the reasonable questions or misconceptions, and these groups welcome that entirely. I wish alt news like Vice still had these balls.

But if you cross them, watch out. What a lot of them lack in stature, they make up for in heart. Got my lip busted a time or 3 by someone who was 3-6 inches shorter than me. That being said, if they have your back, it’s to the bitter end. Great view of their life Peter.
