It's probably been mentioned, but have you looked into cutting down some larger props and making your own bull nose props? Supposedly ducts enjoy bull nose props. Plus you can dial in your duct clearance with that strategy for the maximum thrust.

Conic screens pointing upwards within a short shroud would reduce the edge turbulence and still allow the same rate of air ingest. The square top means that it still restricts the air coming in from directly above and creates turbulence ahead of the blades as it pulls in air irregularly from 90 degrees to the thrust direction.

Just want to mention as a Dutchy here: The battles are in Katwijk which is a 35 minute drive from Amsterdam. It's such a shame that I've got an important sports match on that day, I would have loved to come see the battle and more importantly you. Fun fact: Next to the place where the match is there is a hangar from the famous musical: "Soldaat van Oranje" (soldier of orange) which is about WW2 in the Netherlands. The musical has been prolonged for 8 years and approximately 2,6 million of 17 million Dutch citizens had already visited the musical in 2016. Add to that that the scenery is extremely impressive as the seats turn towards a new stage every scene and there's even a real airplane.

Could you normalize the sound of your videos so that your voice is louder but the drone noises are quieter? your (sound or maybe video) editing program of choice might have an option for that. QuantumFluxable They could already be normalized. Buzzy sounds often are perceived to sound louder than non-buzzy sounds at the same actual volume. Same thing for continuous sounds vs ones that aren’t (such as speech).

Hey Peter, you take some deep cuts in the styrofoam with a Utility Knife. After a while the utility knife gets that tiny bit more dull and It usually starts tearing the foam. I've found that stropping the blade on a place of leather with buffing compound applied for a while makes it razor sharp again :) Have a nice day ^^

If you put spikes on top and string on the bottom there would be no way to attack the drone if you want up from underneath the propellers of the attacking drone would be destroyed if a drone drop something like a piece of paper on top of your drone the spikes would keep it away from the Mesh keeping airflow hi

You could have reduced the weight of your plastic mesh by cutting out several of the mini spars or maybe even reduced them strategically by half and still left behind a protective mesh for a percentage of the weight cost.

Couple ideas, What if you put some string underneath the quad copter so then it gets caught in the other people's blads but have it barley on there so it doesn't pull you down. Just an idea.
