Great job done. Transformation is amazing. I could have used you on my 41 year old quarter horse. He had an exposed coffin bone. I couldn't get a farrier to come. Had vet exrays. The coffin bone was setting right just exposed because of thin sole. I used vet wrap to keep the infection down for six months. He got down the day after Christmas and We couldn't get him up so I had to do the most difficult thing I had ever done and had him put down. He was like one of my children. I raised him from birth off my mare. I'm still grieving from his loss. So I watch videos of people helping horses in need because they can't talk for themselves. So thank you. 😊

Hi Peter. I'm not into horses. They are amazing animals and I love watching them. But I've gained a lot of respect for the work you do, my friend. This is not a nail treatment like the women get. This is necessary and important for the horse. Because if you don't do your job well, it can just become a lame horse. Hence the respect for what you do and the way you do it. Kind regards from the Netherlands, Toine.

@jenniferlehman326 Жыл бұрын
@Peterthefarrier He's hale and hearty. Good as new as he would say. All is well on that front Peter. Just biding our time for another storm front to come through, it has another Tornado warning attached just like yesterday's storm did. We had to put 40 horses into the indoor riding arena to keep them safe. As they only have a run in shelter out in their pasture. And that's not enough protection if a Tornado comes through. But the indoor Arena was built to withstand an F3 Tornado. So we bring them inside. It's safer for them.
@Peterthefarrier Жыл бұрын
I am glad to hear your dad is ok. I hope the tornado did not do to much damage.
@jenniferlehman326 Жыл бұрын
@Peterthefarrier Not in our end of town, which is by the airport. But in the more rural areas we did have quite a bit of tree damage from a tornado that touched down. Just tree damage and loss of power to some folks for a few hours. No lives lost or houses damaged, thank goodness. Last year, we had 3 tornados that did damage to a lot of property, and 2 ambulances couldn't get their patients through to the hospital. One was a critical case. He didn't make it, unfortunately. The other one was fine.

Very Interesting. Love watching you work. It seems to me almost counter intuitive to file down the hoof wall. Making the wall thinner would weaken it further. It must work or you wouldn’t do it. What is the the rationale behind this? Is the treatment you add at the end cosmetic or therapeutic?
@Peterthefarrier Жыл бұрын
They’re definitely was a lot of rasping with this horse. A lot more than normal. If the splits and chips are left in they will just travel up more. A bit like if you chip your nail and it is not cut back more ends up chipping and coming off.
@DavoShed Жыл бұрын
@@Peterthefarrier That makes sense. I have a horse with a minor split and my Farrier never touches the hoof wall. Actually never does on any of our horses. Different schools of thought I guess. Love to see a follow up on this one if you get the chance

Would horse shoes save the hoofs from wearing down so badly? Excellent work
@Peterthefarrier Жыл бұрын
The cause of this is the horse kicking the stable wall. Sometimes a shoe can help but sometimes they kick that hard they can twist the shoe into the hoof causing more damage. I guess it depends how hard they are kicking.

i've noticed that British farriers cleanup/dress the top of the hoof and apply hoof-oil, but American farriers do not. Any reason why? (Given some of the climates in the US, i'm surprised hoof-oil isn't used!)

I have only seen a few of your videos so far, but I don't see many horseshoes. I am from the United States and most or all of the horses I have seen are shod. Is that not common in the UK? Would horseshoes have prevented the kind of cracking seen on Molly here?
