Hey guys, Thanks so much for making this video. I'm very touched by your kind words. If you feel entertained then my job here was done. To answer your question, when I was writing this piece I was also recording it as I went. I recorded it in sections and not all on one pass, but each section was recorded in one performance the way it's seen in the video, but not with the showy movements, and the Hydra was on a stand. The only thing I went back and re-recorded was the harp strings because the pick up for the harp strings picks up the vibrations from all the other necks and makes things a little more messy overall. Yup, it's heavy. It took me perhaps 3 weeks to be able to perform the piece all the way through standing up the way I'm doing it in this video. It will take me a while to be able to play through it relatively perfectly live. That's the goal. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this post. It's always inspiring to me when I see people enjoying my quirky weirdness. I think that's what I'm here for! 🙏

There's an Ibanez video breaking down the Hydra. That's a harp he's hitting on the bottom. All the necks can be independently shut off, pick ups coil tapped and modulated. He has a "climax control", ethernet input, extra lamp plug, tubes, etc.

Dude's a wizard 😆. Love that the instrument looks like a hydra. Amazing video guys! Congratulations! One my favorite albums of SV is Flex-Able (1984), in that album you can hear Zappa's influence. With this song the vibe is very intoxicating 😎🤘

Hey Alex! Yeah man, serious guitar wizard, and yes that guitar is something else...Happy you liked the video. Yes early SV the Zappa influence definitely comes through! Steve is coming to play in London in June, absolutely cannot wait to see him live! 🤘🏻

I thought this was a gimmick at first, another three necked guitar played separately at certain points within the composition - however this has blown my mind. To incorporate all this musicality and technique on one instrument is insane. Again, Vai had a vision in his mind and executed it to perfection….Astonishing.

We felt exactly the same. Sometimes after years of playing in can be difficult to find music that really gives you that inspired feeling that you came across when you first made the decision to pick up the guitar, but this song/performance does it! One of the reasons why Steve is one of the best in the world.

It's great to see you guys keeping metal alive, and your honest and excited videos. Steve Vai is one of the greats for sure, I've followed his career since the 80's. I'm big on finding talented guitarist. You may be interested in checking out Yo Onityan, some say he's the fastest guitarist in Japan, I don't know for sure, but I do know he's a great guitarist.
