Petrified Wood & Texas Agate - Rock hounding in Live Oak County, TX

If you want to find large pieces of petrified wood, go to Brazos County and the surrounding counties. There are whole trees petrified all around the county, including tree stumps and roots that are so large you will need heavy equipment to move them. I have thousands of pieces from that area, the largest weighing only about 60 pounds, but I still know where some large pieces are, and one root stump that is so large 5 of us could not budge it. The area is picked over now that word got out about it, but any area where the ground is scraped or trees are cleared away, you can find petrified wood everywhere. Even in the creeks that feed Lake Somerville have a lot of petrified wood in them, but again, after heavy rains is when you need to search since the area gets picked over quickly. One man showed us trees that are laid over, that go back just over 30 feet into the hillside that are petrified wood. it is unbelievable.

@@wefossick_meekosmine Im in SoCal, 2hrs from Mohave Desert rock open BLM dreamland. But some of those West Tx stones are exotic and rare.
