It’s a wonderful day to fly ! When Beechcraft introduced the Staggerwing , it was faster than the fighters of the day ! ‘Stagger’ is the term used to describe the relative position of the upper and lower wings , the norm being positive stagger with the upper wing ahead . This aircraft, with the top wing being behind, had negative stagger . At the 1933 Miami Air Maneuvers , the announcer remarked: “ Gee , look at that negative stagger wing Beech go ! “ Beechcraft, in their infinite wisdom decided that ‘ negative ‘ wasn’t the best selling point and so ‘Staggerwing ‘ it became . Salute, nice maiden, the wings were staggered to help maximized pilot visibility. In the mid 1930's Beech created the Model 17 D, it had a lengthened fuselage that improved the aircraft's handling characteristics by increasing control leverage, and the ailerons were relocated to the upper wing, eliminating interference with the flaps and they gave it a foot operated brake linked to the rudder pedals. Because this plane had such great speed their was 6 fatal accidents between 1936 to 1940, the cause was aileron flutter, they fixed this by adding lead balance weights to the ailerons and flaps and they beefed up the construction of the wing to increase torsional stiffness to the wing and wing tip sections. Brand new, you could buy this plane for $ 14,000 to $17,000 depend on engine selection ....

Another great video and a beautiful bi-plane with a "staggered wing". The word staggered comes from the fellow who has had too many beers, and cannot march in a straight line with the rest of the troops. On this aircraft the top wing is staggered back a little towards the tail and not even with the bottom wing. Maybe they do this to make the plane fly better, I don't know. After this nice flight, if you stop at the pub, only have one beer so you don't "stagger" home, oh yeah! Happy Flying

Nice flight and video. The full size aircraft is quite fast for a biplane, there is one based locally and I have seen it fly over the city a few times- most impressive. During WW-2, the US military used them as staff transports to shuttle high ranking officers about.

A beautiful Plane. I wanted that plane years ago but didn't get it. I did get the Stinson Reliant and she flies great. I 'had' the Parkzone Albatros, mint condition. I bought 2 in 2013. Today I gave it to my older brother. I do have a new one still in the box. It is an awesome flyer. I bought the Dynam Albatros and will give her a go. I hope she will fly as well as my Dynam Waco.
