Ninja 400. Soo glad I started small because the mistakes I made on a smaller bike was not as bad as if I was on a bigger bike

I started on a Ninja EX500R. Was on that thing for almost 8 years. Couple years ago I upgraded to a Gen2 Tuono, and am absolutely in love. Someday I'll get my dream bike: a new Tuono V4.

I started over 50 years ago on an XR75😁. I rode thru numerous tire changes on that bike. Man, I wish I still had it. Pinnacle of mini bikes.

My first ever bike that I bought last year is a Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe. Not bad for a 59 year old New Yorker, can't wait to take her out this weekend now that the weather is finally warming up a bit.

I actually started on a new 21 rsv4 1100 factory back in 2021. All things considered, it was a bad idea and I definitely got lucky. No accidents, no drops. It is somehow sitting in my garage with my other bikes up on a stand, still in pristine condition. I have plenty of experience in very fast cars with a good understanding on tire physics, suspension geometry, and clutch/motor. I had never been on two wheels my entire life, and I wish I put those learning miles on a different bike. I now have a new bmw s1k and r9t. Price to repair (should you damage your first bike) is probably going to be close to, if not the same as an r1 compared to the rsv4, with the rsv4 coming in at a bit more price. BUT, you'll have the r1 parts the same week you buy them. While the aprilia waits weeks if not months on piaggio for parts to get here. These literbikes want to go fast. the rsv4 REALLY does not like going slow. IMO, start on something like an r7. Nobody cares if you ride a literbike and a literbike provides ZERO value in the first months or riding as you are learning in parking lots, figuring out how to ride on streets, lane splitting for the first time.

Rode occasional leisure rides on my brother's 125cc Honda Shadow and Dad's Honda CBX650E for a couple summers before deciding the get my own bike. Had developed some preferences on the way and I settled for a 97' Honda CBR1100 XX Super Blackbird. As I wanted more wind protection and torgue at higher speeds, the bike met my expectations completely. Around 140hp at crank, 124nm of torgue and wet weight of ~250kg not the fastest by any measure, but still overkill for the streets. As for anyone pondering should they get something big and powerful, I repeat what the Oracle teached Neo: "know thyself". Do you have self-restraint, patience, risk anticipation and common sense with the throttle... these are the keys to success and safety with a big bike. It also may help newer riders if the powerful bike linearly makes its max torgue and hp near red line, as then going fast has to be very intentional.

The Neo example you gave is the biggest reason why I don’t think 1K’s are a good idea because most people don’t have self restraint. Most people are addicted to something these days (phone, entertainment, drugs etc) and the bike becomes another drug and this is why speed no longer feels fast after a while because it doesn’t provide the same thrill as prior (dopamine levels not as high ad before).

@@PetroHead One old acquaintance of mine started without any previous driving experience with Ducati Diavel. Apparently hes still alive. Arm truly is more deadly than a sword, but I would never see myself going the same path.

Starting on a Diavel and an R1 or GSXR is a completely different person (and blood type).. I know which one I’d put my trust on to be more level headed. Just search on YT of guys riding GSXR 1000’s on YT.. some with just gloves and no gear pulling dank wheelies for show lol.. Diavel guys are usually older and more conservative (level headed)

With the electronics that are currently available on them you absolutely could. However, the problem is would you have the discipline to properly learn to ride before tapping into that power. I couldn’t have done it. For me Katana 600 to Daytona 675 to GSXR 750 to Aprilia RSV4. They are all fast but the Aprilia is almost other worldly fast. I would have probably killed myself if I had this bike 15-20 years ago.

Electronics doesn't teach you two wheel physics buddy. Your mind is learning how this big ass machine behaves and it's learning. Guess what, while you're learning at anything in life you make mistakes. You can't master anything if you haven't made all mistakes.

Nice vid, I believe the 2020 R1 is rated at 198hp and RSV4 1100 217hp.. Scratch that, start on a Turbo Busa.

Not a chance.. even newer R1’s are 180 crank at the max. If you’re referring to a video you recently watched from the UK dudes.. remember that the dyno is owned by Yamaha.. done at a Yamaha headquarters facility.

Is the RSV4 more comfortable than the R6? Or pretty much the same?
@PetroHead
@PetroHead Жыл бұрын
It’s a bit more comfortable because it’s a modern (super) sport bike.. old bikes like 959 / R6 are very aggressive.

You can get in the same amount of trouble on a smaller bike. But, a liter bike is like turning into superman, without the durability. Ride at ur own risk.

Dumbest advice I’ve heard on the subject. Dont get an older litre bike. Get one with TC and turn it up to start and get used to power gradually.

@@PetroHead And getting an older litre bike without any TC and only marginally less power is great advice? Quit preaching to others what they should do. If people want to be stupid and kill themselves they are going to do it. It has nothing to do with what motorcycle they have.

If you're actually stupid enough to start on a machine like an rsv4, you should stay away from two wheels. With that type of reasoning in your mind , you will kill yourself or seriously hurt yourself. My idiot neighbor started on a r1 and never leaves the neighborhood...that was 4 MONTHS AGO. He said he's still getting used to the bike..lol In those 4 months he could of sharpen his skills with a lightweight sport bike, trade it in like a year later for your first big bike. Thats what i did and you learn so much more on a lightweight bike.

You will end up as a garbage rider. Any skilled rider can spot a terrible rider a mile away. The only skill you will learn on that r6 is how to survive on it. How is your corner entry? corner exit ? Trail braking? Can you ride in circles? Never confuse going straight fast is a skill, that's all the bike and physics taking over, you just happen to be on top of it.
