Hello Peter. I really wanted a V10 Touareg when they came out but the price seemed just too far away for me then….it was a very special car above other VW’s but these days, it seems hard to make special cars that look clearly different from others in the same range….people are expressing surprise at £80,000 and ŷet that has become near enough “normal” for anything a shade upmarket and far beyond that for many others. The Touareg has always struggled with depreciation so maybe in 12 months at £59,995, it will be a bargain! I got used to reversing trailers when had one for house renovation work but that self park would have been useful at times! I once watched a farmer tow a big stock trailer full of sheep up a narrow lane towed by a basic Focus LX that was well covered in mud. He stopped…without a hesitation then reversed the whole thing through a narrow gate that was also on a steep slope upwards and then across the field and not a hedge touched! It was fascinating….so smooth, precise, quick and effortless…..yea he has done that hundreds of times but still clever planning! 😀😀😀P.S. Buy the Defender….even better and you look like Harry M !!😎😎😎😎

If I had the current version I don’t know wether I’d be highly motivated to get into this new model because it’s a pretty solid car before the tweaks but given there’s no price changes you can’t possibly argue this newest version, it’s a very nice vehicle indeed.

People making dumb comments due to lack of information about cars. The cost of the VW is competitive with Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Lexus GX. Conversely, the BMW X6 would be over 10k more and a RR Defender would be 1.5x as much. @16:55 no mention of camera forward or underside. Also, hill descent is still too fast. The colour scheme of the one he drives at the end, is beautiful. But I can guarantee that won’t be available in the UK (it’s LHD, so not for UK market no doubt). VW UK will only offer black and grey, and there won’t be an auxiliary heater option like there used to be. So it will probably be a Defender or RRS where British buyers still have the full range of options to spec.

I own a 2015 VW Touareg tdi and recently sold for a 2022 Lexus GX 460. Yes the tdi is very fuel efficient, but you can’t beat the Lexus old fashion body on frame for driving smoothness. It’s in a league of its own. Totally old fashion, which I like, but that buttery V8 and built like a tank feeling makes it a better choice. I think the new Touareg looks nice, but way too high price and too much tech which is nonsense.
@philipparkes568211 ай бұрын
Hi Ped I thought this might be interesting, and I was not disappointed. Initially badge snobbery came to the fore, surely VW cannot be serious trying to compete in this price sector, but then as we all know prices have gone crazy. These are clearly lovely cars but even allowing for inflation, they have steadily positioned themselves much further up market. The original Touareg started well under £30K in 2002 and you could purchase the base 2.5 diesel in 2004 with discounts for £25K even from Listers…… which is £35K in today’s money. Given the increased costs of finance, I wonder how it will all work out.
@Pugjamin11 ай бұрын
£30k in 2002 still works out to £53k today, so the increase isn’t that much, bearing in mind there are other models below which didn’t exist in in 2002.

The Touareg has always been capable off road and I’m not convinced this new one is justifiably different to the previous generations. As for the price, who is paying £80k for a VW badge?The very mention you made about a lot of similarity inside to a Tiguan shows the car just doesn’t meet the price tag and VW are out of their comfort league. Anyone with 1/2 a brain is instead looking at a 1yr old Cayenne with a better badge yet similar residuals. The only thing this has going for it is that it’s ever so slightly more left wing being a VW as opposed to the Audi / Porsche equivalents. Having said that, the customer care of VW these days isn’t what it was only 10yrs ago so even that is debatable.
