I'm redoing my old shrub border I had off the side of my deck. I was going to plant some hydrangea standards with some smaller hydrangeas. Now you have me considering Puffer Fish. It will be in full sun. Bonny zone 5b

Hi Bonny! Geez, I wouldn’t know what to advise, because your first idea with the standards and smaller ones sounds beautiful! The standards do take some work until they get established - mainly making sure they are staked properly so they don’t blow over in the wind. 💨💨 But I think Puffer Fish will be a winner too. It depends on what colors you want to see, or have a mix of those pretty flower heads! 🌸🤍💚🌸

Thank you! I like that it does not fade to a dirty dish water pink at the end. My local nursery has two left. I'm a scuba diver and I've seen the Puffer Fish in the Caribbean but I really don't see a resemblance.

I planted 2 last year . I have new growth so looking forward to seeing what it will look like. Zone 6b

Me too, Mel! That's one of the things I enjoy the most: watching the panicle hydrangeas begin to leaf out and then watching as the blooms begin very small and gradually get bigger and bigger until they fully open and cover the plants! Keep me posted on how yours are doing!

Great video, that hydrangea tree is absolutely gorgeous! Now I want a puffer fish hydrangea with no where to put it. Although at 72 I guess I could move to another location and start all over coping your yard and beautiful landscape 😂😂😂 Blessings 💜💚

That’s funny about moving to a new location - if only it was easy to do! 🤣 The Limelight Hydrangea Tree is doing well this year. The stems are much stronger as they’ve gotten older, thank goodness. 🙏 I’m excited to see how this Puffer Fish does next year! 😀🤍💚

Laura, you’re the hydrangea queen of KZbin! Do you have Bobo? Every time I see them at the nursery, the blooms are crispy. They seem to have a finer, more delicate structure which might be why.

☺️ I don’t have a Bobo, but it seems like everyone who does seems to love them. What is nice about Puffer Fish is that it has really strong stems, so those giant flower heads won’t flop. The real test will be next Summer, of course! (I want to add a Pinky Winky Prime next year when they come out, so I can see how it compares to my Pinky Winkies.) Then I might stop. 🤣😂

Hi Agnes - I’m told Puffer Fish begins blooming in mid-Summer and goes into the Fall season, a wonderful long flowering period for us gardeners in New Jersey! 👍🤍😀
