Dusty will never go out of style. Because she was honest in every word she sang.

Was sad to read when Dusty was dying she had to find someone to take her rag doll cat Nicholas. I hope he lived a happy life with someone who loved him as much as Dusty did. Greatest singer of all time Dusty Springfield.

brilliant to hear petula praising dusty. these days a lot of female artists would bitch and slag each other off. these ladies were professionals

I smiled at you 'unknown American gentleman' comment. You have likely heard BJ Thomas many times, singing 'Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head', 'Hooked on a Feeling' and other classic hit tunes. Dusty is linked to him via a TV theme tune she sang on. You can find out more by Googling 'BJ Thomas, Wikipedia'. And yes, this is a great video. It's nice to have Petula doing the speaking...someone who was there and can relate.

I really don't know who that guy is that it's sitting with Petula Clark to me he looks like B.J Thonas.

His name is b.j. thomas and he has a great voice. He went through serious drug addiction and it hindered his career. But one true fact...you can never take away someones voice. His as well dustys were top notch.

Hahahahaha! I find it so humorous that so many people don't recognize B.J. Thomas. It just goes to show you that all fame is fleeting. In the 1960's and early 70's everyone would have recognized him. He was not so well known by later generations by his image on a poster, but his voice was still heard. I bet B.J. could walk down a street today and most of the people would never know who he was/is. Way to go B.J.!!

Greenwolfe Green That’s a person people should explore. BJT was a perfect singer in the 60’s (yes, forever in my heart).

Should note that the song mentioned (“How Can I Be Sure”) was written by Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati and recorded for their 1967 album Groovin’ (The Young Rascals). I love Dusty’s rendition, but theirs ain’t bad. Give a listen.

Petula Clark, gracious as always, represents the balanced and fully-integrated personality that Dusty never was, but needed to become. The life of any solo artist is never easy. Springfield was a unique talent and superb in her musical style. She benefited from the popularity of her predecessors, Petula and Julie Andrews, who paved the way for her and many other later solo female singers with their own enormous talents in different musical genres. Both had the emotional strength to handle the capricious ups and downs of a singing career. Dusty unfortunately did not. In contrast to them, Dusty was deviled by insecurities and a mercurial temperament that damaged her relationships, especially after 1970, when her record sales began to decline despite her continued popularity. She devoted the rest of her brief life to trying to re-invent herself and rekindle the magic. She had stormy relationships with her managers and recording companies, but in fairness to them, Dusty was not the most tractable client or easily counseled. Her demons got in the way. Very few singers have the good fortune to extend their careers for more than five or six years, and Dusty wasn't one of them. Voices fade, styles change. Yet, her star was never totally in eclipse; she remained in demand professionally to the end. And for a few short years in the 1960s, she was as hot and successful as anyone in the business. Her best songs are the stuff of legend.

Does anyone know where I can view the full interview, clips of which are shown in both part 1 of 2 and part 2 of 2 where Dusty is being interviewed by a man and she is wearing what looks to be a white faux fur vest? I have the Reflections DVD and the exact same clips ( with a few seconds more shown ) are there too. I would love to see the whole interview which looks to be from 1971. Anyone? Thanks if you can help.
@cyyoung91753 жыл бұрын
Me too, did you ever find it? Very appealing she sounded like a young kid but probably if it was from 71 may have been in her early 30s . Hope you found whole interview and will post on youtube.

She speaks like she sings; kind of a creamy drawl. Not much of a British accent, either. Amazing.

Yes it is an educated middle class English accent! Tho of course her Irish background was very important to her!
