Great tutorial, mate. Looking to do this with mine now in a week or two and the discs haven't come off since the car has rolled off the line haha, so hopefully they won't be too stuck on.

+Pedro Mayn That could be fun trying to get them off the hub, plenty of WD40 should sort it, its the benefit of a lighter car though the brakes last much longer.
@peugeotCitroen2CV8 жыл бұрын
+Didier Saenen WD-40 is technically a penetrating oil, others are available although i just refer to WD-40 because its the easiest to get a hold of. It definitely makes removing stubborn bolts easier.
@peugeotCitroen2CV8 жыл бұрын
+Didier Saenen No problem glad they help. Haha cant be your first can of WD-40? Its great stuff; squeaky doors in the house, seized pliers, removing stains on concrete, cleaning off dead insects. its surprising the amount of things it will do.

Ive got a 106 zest 2 51 plate could you tell me if the spring goes onto the bottom what does it actually clip on to in the centre of the brake pad to give it tension ?
@peugeotCitroen2CV2 жыл бұрын
Hi there This video is from a 305 but it uses a similar type of calliper, there is a better view around the 5:00 min mark onwards of that spring going back into place kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJy9dZSpq9NqjKc

Hi, as far as i am aware they aid in releasing the pads after the brake pedal has been released

I've just changed both pads on each side but I can't get the retainer back in - some good advice?
@peugeotCitroen2CV4 жыл бұрын
The slide in retainer, it can be tricky. Clean it up as well as possible with a wire brush to get all of the loose rust off, also try filing the leading edge that will initially go in between the pads and the calliper so that it can slide in easier, a chamfer will do this.
@pspr339 жыл бұрын
Hi. Great video. I was wondering how long in total it would take (roughly) to do the whole process minus the colour painting of the callipers?
@assassintimzzzy7 жыл бұрын
I just did the same on my 106. in same order as you, is it normal for the car to take longer to stop when breaking, tried doing an emergency stop at 30 mph and it didn't skid just slowed down, any ideas as to what it could be. was told it needs wearing in.
@peugeotCitroen2CV7 жыл бұрын
There is a bedding in process, i cant remember exactly but if you read the instructions that come with the disks or pads they basically say drive the car easy for the first 1-200 miles. However its worth checking your brake fluid if you have spongy brakes, if its older fluid it may be a good idea to flush the old fluid out and replace with new fluid ensuring the system is bled correctly.

I have replaced both rear brake drum bearings on my 206 and replaced brake shoes on both sides. There is a squeak slightly or squeal coming from one or both rear drums when the car heats up but more noticeable when braking once cars heated up. Do you reckon it's bearings or brakes?
@peugeotCitroen2CV10 жыл бұрын
What is the backplate like that the shoes etc all bolt to, is there any loose rust flaking off that could be causing the noise?

peugeotCitroen2CV I will have another look. How tight should the hub nut be? It's hard to get a grip on them to tighten them up real good
@peugeotCitroen2CV10 жыл бұрын
***** It depends on the car what the torque for its hub nut should be, the haynes manual for a 206 should have that number. But on the 406 i just used the impact wrench to send the hub back as far as it would go and checked that it still moved freely.
@davieboy19860710 жыл бұрын
peugeotCitroen2CV ok cheers. I used an impact on it too so should be OK then. I think I may have adjusted the brake shoes incorrectly and they are overheating, is this a possibility?

i have a 106 quicksliver changed the rear beam to disk made a new brake line to fit n no luck on bleeding the brake on the new beam un done nipple m8 to pump brake peddle fluid comming out lock it off n the piston only moving a bit n brake pedle soft goes to floor like nipple still un done only think i can think doing wrong is not using a rubber diy bottle kit think? am i right? help
@peugeotCitroen2CV4 жыл бұрын
Hi there Are you bleeding the brakes on your own? If so yes you would need to adopt the rubber tube bottle trick thats well covered on youtube. However for pure convenience i would highly recommend the Sealey VS820 which is a pneumatic brake bleeding tool, makes the job of bleeding the brakes much handier.
@49CCHRIS4 жыл бұрын
no luck made a good diy kit to bleed brakes got air out but the piston only works on one brake the drives side wheel but all rest dont lock up seems like piston dont come out a nuff to clamp the pads to the disk also when push brake pedel goes to the floor no pressure no leaks so why are all 3 pistons on my brakes not moving out like few 2mm away can see the piston moving a bit when get some to push the brake its driving me nuts help please!

@@49CCHRIS It still seems like there is air in the system, is the pedal firm as it goes to the floor or still a bit spongey feeling? Does the 106 have any sort of load compensator valve on the back axle, and does this particular one have ABS?

good news! was still air trapped all running clear now so locked of nipple went round all brakes and bleed them more and works a treat now pressure back the gti 6 on the front brakes stop really well n so dose the new vts rear beam locks up well... i only had to make one new copper brake line n fit a bigger union on it other line fitted straight in! would been easy to buy a 106 gti as trun the 1.4 quiksliver into a 106gti all good fun i gess n lernt alot!! thanks for the help! next issue is car has a fuel line in but no fuel return line! my ecu is getting unlocked once back to get engine running shell i block the fuel return line or buy a 1.6 pump n make a new return line? not eve. sure if a 1.4 fuel pump have nuff pressure to run the 1.6 vts lump?? help

pug106 GTI Great to hear you got the brakes sorted. With regards the 1.4/1.6 not sure on that, servicebox used to be good to check part numbers for this sort of question to see if the engines share the same pump, there is a chance both do but perhaps not. Best asking on the owners clubs to find that out, never done much in the way of tuning those cars

why did you go to so much trouble of painting the callipers when you can't even see them
@peugeotCitroen2CV10 жыл бұрын
I have a set of alloys ordered for the car, the callipers will be visible when they are fitted.

What is the minimum allowed thickness for the pads and discs?
@peugeotCitroen2CV9 жыл бұрын
+Willem van der Rijken Not to sure about that, normally there are grooves on the disk long before it reaches the minimum thickness, and the pads if the wear inicator is still there is usally a sign things need to be changed. The new disks should have the minimum thickness stamped on them.

Thanks Article number or part number? There was a few different variations of disks fitted to the 106, 3 or 4 stud, vented or solid? Best to take the old disks to the motor factors to ensure you get the right ones.

HesseJamez The plastic ones are what the car left the factory with and they did the job perfectly. A set of alloy wheels would have been at least £100-200 which would have had a detrimental effect on any profit the car would make.
