One commom issue is very high engine oil consumption, at least on the 1.4 VTI and 1.6 VTI engines. Reports of 1 ltr per 1000 miles are common.

That happens with engines that use low SAPS oils. Using high SAPS, BMW LL-01 certified oils from day 1, makes sure you never face such issues ;)

Unless you have a 2.0 HDi version. I picked up a 308SW with the 2.0 HDi and 6sp manual. I bought it at 172,000km and the service book showed the last service was at 101,000km. The guy I bought it from had been driving it around for a couple of years and went quiet when I asked him about the gap in the service records 😂😂 the oil level was still dead on full (albeit BLACK, even for a diesel) but it ran fine and I got it cheap. Good as new after a service. Some PSA engines are surprisingly bulletproof!
