your video is great and very useful but why not show how to change the old key into the new housing as this would be more helpful than having to take to a locksmith to have the key cut ?
@TheCarKeyMan7 жыл бұрын
Hi John. That is a good question. The blade is held in tightly with a small pin. Sometimes this can be very difficult to get out. If you hit the new key about too much, the plastic piecec that keeps the key working breaks, and then you have a new broken key!. Also, another problem is that sometimes, the old blade will not fit into the new case. This is because it is an aftermarket part. This is why we say cut the key. I hope that makes sense
@OscarStensballe4 жыл бұрын
I found a solution, all you have to do is punch out the little pin that connects the blade to key assemble, do the same a replacement unit, switch the blade over and you're done. Got a replacement unit online for under 5 USD and it took 5 minutes to do once I figured it out.

No parts are broken and I have all parts but I can't for the life of me get it to go back together. @TheCarKeyManАй бұрын
Hi, the assembly is supposed to be held in place by the thin piece of plastic that gets broken. Once these keys have been in bits, they need a new case long term. You can sometimes get them together, but they don’t last
@greatwhite619677 жыл бұрын
Ps, Even now & that was 5 days ago that I finally got it all sorted, I still find that my Physical Key is just too prone to being sprung open accidentally whether it's in my pocket or being put down onto a table to the extent that when I'm finished driving for the day & I've closed the Key over & it's clicked into place, I use a small elastic band & wrap it just tight enough to stop the Key from opening. I went from a quote of £150+ to £200 from an official Peugeot Key Maker & Repairer to £11.50 in all total spent. I was fortune though (if you can call it that) in that I had everything I needed with regards to switching everything over. I'd hate to think if I'd lost the Physical Key or the circuitboard had been trashed! As I, like most other's out there would've been looking down the barrel of a very pricey repair. A Quick word of Advice. Keep your car key/fob separate from the rest of your keys as I'm pretty sure that the weight from many keys hanging over the side of these side attached keys didn't & won't help you in the long run as they're not built strong enough to last. This to me is one of the main reasons for a lot of the problems with these particular key & combined alarm fobs. The button to release the Key protrudes out way too much & the design (on mine anyway) is just poorly executed. If the Physical Key sprung open in the middle section (rather than from the side) of the unit then the weight distribution would be a lot better but since it's at the side all the weight immediately adds to the the obvious problem of thrse flimsy made key/alarm fobs.

Great vid, I managed to replace the key. I used the original button with the new spring because the new one didn't fit (I may had ordered the wrong part haha), but once I figured out how the part and spring action worked (turn anti clockwise just 180°) then turn to secure, it only took minutes to do the second key. Tip use long nose pliers, it makes it so much easier. The new case didn't come with the Citroen logo, so I gently took it off the original then super glued it on.

Hi, I purchased a Peugeot 1007 1 week ago. The car works fine buy the 4 Button Key Fob fell apart in my hand on the same night I bought it which I was not happy about to say the least. The Dealership said the usual albino of its not our fault as it was working when we gave you the Fob which was partly true. It worked but the Key would never close or stay open & I thought I'd get away with that until I could get it replaced. Little did I know that it would be within a few hours that mine would come apart. Dealership want nothing to do with me (which I figured & won't be back) so I order a New Replacement Key & Fob from the Internet. It arrived today & I'm pleasantly surprised to find it only tool a few minutes to switch the circuitboard out & into the New one but what I'd like to know is, Would it be worth my time to get the Blank that came with it cut as so many people on the Forums have had mixed results with this issue. I'm happy to have use a separate Fob to operate my alarm/immobiliser but im wondering is it worth cutting the Blank. My system is similar to the one you showed where the battery is connected to the circuitboard. Is there anything else that I'd need to switch over with the New Key Blank if I was to get it cut as when I looked further after putting my circuitboard into the New Fob it looked like a small magnet had been tapped in into a small rectangular box. Now I don't know if that was to add the Key in staying in the open position as it was at the top portion of the Key Fob. Any feedback would be appreciated. Like any car owner I'd prefer to have a spare key if possible but if I'm just going ruin Blank Third Party Keys then there's no point. Ps I couldn't agree with you more with regards to these Key Fobs at the start of your video. I too have never liked them, they're infamous for breaking & falling apart so easily so why then do manufacturers of these cars still continue to use this method as no one will go to their Official Dealers of whatever their car is & cough up (which I was quoted from an Official Peugeot Parts Distributer) £200 unless your rolling in money & no one that's driving any Peugeot or lower priced car whether it's New Or Preowned is going to be that flush. It's such an annoying fault that could easily cost an everyday person alot of money in fares getting to work and back when one of these eventually goes. Car manufacturers really need to come up with a better system as this is geared towards fleecing people who depend on their cars on a day to day basis to get to work. Lets say as a nurse who cant afford a brand new car or in fact does buy a brand new car but finds themselves in the same predicament at some poibt down the line with regards to my car key fob breaking as this is what happens to all of them. How am I meant to feel if I can't get to work on a day to day basis to look after the sick and elderly because Car Manufacturers don't want to build these Fobs to last & when they do go it cost an arm & a leg & no pun intend. It pisses me off that they never think of the consequences of these things breaking so easily. On last thing I've noticed is my Original Key doesn't have a groove down the side but the Third Party One Does will that make any difference! Thanks.
@greatwhite619677 жыл бұрын
I've just looked further into what it was that looked like a small magnet stuck in at the top of my Fob was indeed the car Key Transponder. Just as well I didn't through that out. Top tip keep ever part from your old or broken Key Fob until your 100% sure you've got everything you need to get everything to work & even then it won't hurt to keep it just incase you've missed something else & let's be honest it won't be taking up too much drawer space.
@TheCarKeyMan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul Thanks for watching the video. Firstly, the blade. The two different types of blade are not interchangeable and it will not go into you ignition properly. So there is no point having it cut. Because your battery in connected to the circuit board, you have the easier type to fix. When you have the correct case, just get the blade cut and you are good to go. I'm not sure why you would have a separate transponder in the key, because the green circuit board has a chip built into the circuit. Does it start without the small transponder by it?
@greatwhite619677 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the speeding reply. I haven't got round to trying it without the transponder as I was just wanting to use the casing to open the doors & alarm & unalarm my car. My 4 Button Key Fob wasn't in as bad a shape as the ones in your video but it goes to show you now fickle they are. The only thing I noticed which I didn't pay much heed to was the blade wouldn't close or stay in the open position, it just flopped around & I think thats what has finally caused it to go but I can honestly say I didn't bend it in anyway thar could've caused this. To me it's been a case (excuse the pun) of the Dealership have known it was on its last legs but weren't going to shell out on a replacement which is just being cheap. It's not as if I was going to ask for them to replace it with an Official Peugeot Key Fob Replacement as I was quoted anything from £150 to £200. So I can understand their hesitation in doing this but in the long run its costs them a repeat customer as I won't be going back anytime soon. If they'd done what I had I would've been more than happy & grateful as it's a bit of a crap shoot when ordering one of these from the Internet. I made sure I knew what the inside of mine looked like & ordered from a site that had one thar looked like the inside of mine. Now you'll know yourself that it's not until you've got it & then replace the innards, if it indeed was the one they were advertising & thankfully it was. It works a treat & I'm keeping (for now anyway) my Key & Transponder in the old casing which i've secured as best I can will black electrical tape. That's why I was asking if it was worth my while getting the New Blank Cut!. The part only cost £5.99 & I'll be making sure to them verbally & in a written review that for that small cost they still would've had yet again another repeat buyer but their attitude has ruined it & I'll move on to some one else. It's not as if I come from today's society of Give Me Now & Throw Ir Away attitude. I grew up working on cars & i have a healthy knowledge of them so I knew when to let the issue of a loose Key Fob slide but to completely blank a customer is wrong anyone's book so to potential buyers out there have a good look at your Key Fob before purchasing your car as without that your going nowhere fast. A harsh lesson I've learned & thats to do as i say in future but i was in such a hurry i jusr took it as in but thanks to helpful people like yourself it makes it less of kick in the teeth. I'll try it without the transponder as your saying my circuitboard should have it built into it! I have another 4 Button Key Fob coming from China but I order the one I received today as that one was going to take up to 25 days to arrive & with the old Fob fast deteriorating by the day I decided to order one that looked similar to the one coming from China. Ok if i can steal your patience & time for one more moment I would like to ask you what would be my best option as ideally I'd like a key & a fob combined & a replacement should that go in time eventually. Who would you recommend & what type of blade would best suit my needs. Thank you for your helpful video & your helpful & keep up the good work. I'm guessing I showed go with a key blank that doesn't have the groove in it & I need to make sure the inside matches mine. You know what thst should be simple but as I've found with buying over the Internet you just don't know what you've got until it arrives & this is why I prefer to purchase from a qualified seller who's based in a shop that I can go into & look at the merchandise then & there but those shops are getting thin in the air these days especially if your looking for a Key Fob as I've found that the only people that have them are the official sellers & for me that would be Peugeot & they're not going to be cheap. You know I would mind paying if it was reasonable but at the prices they're charging is day light robbery & they know it. My apologies for the long reply but I know of no other way to shorten down what I have to say in this short abbreviated text society of the c u l8r mate types. Again Thank & Keep Up The Good Work.

Hi Michael. In our experience, these cases are of variable quality. We have never found a case with the same pad quality as the OEM case. To say it is OEM quality, when talking about keys, is very brave. So, we do local repairs in Lincoln, but wouldn't send these out for a couple of simple reasons Firstly, where the battery is in the case, it relies on the battery contacts to touch the gold pads on the green circuit board. Sometimes they don't line up and the key will not transmit. With some simple adjustment it can normally be solved, but when people buy on-line, they quite rightly expect it to just work straight out of the box. The next problem is that in order for the circuit board to be in the correct position, the OEM case has small rubber lugs. However, the replacement cases can sometimes have lugs in a different position and this can cause a few issues. So when we say you cannot buy OEM cases, that is correct. The 'OEM quality' cases are not always correct. I hope this is clear and helpful and thanks for the comments

+Dean Moss Hi Dean. Thanks for watching our video. If the key stops opening and closing the door, there's normally three reasons. The first is the battery, which just needs replacing. The second is that if battery is held in the case, the metal prongs don't always make the correct contact with the green circuit board. Lastly, sometimes, the key needs re-synching with car. Just put the key ignition, turn it in but don't start it. Then press either button for 5-10 secs. Remove the ignition and hopefully it will work :-)

Hello. Oh No! When you swapped it over it should have just started. On a 1007, the chip is normally part of the green circuit board. However, if this is faulty, some people take out the RFID chip from the spare key and put it into the central locking key. I wonder if this is what has happened? Did you find someone to fix it ok?
@websibaer7 жыл бұрын
not yet but I've found Arnold key on the board and this one had a transponder which is a black little unit of cubic form.. about 10 millimeters length and 3 millimeters in diameter stucking separated from the board in the plastic keyframe. When I called the car service they could not even access the board Computer.

Thats strange. You will need an Auto Locksmith with specialist software to talk to teh immo inside the BSI unit. Did you get it all sorted?

Hi George, sorry but we no longer offer this service for the french keys. This is simply because they are so unreliable. We have in the past refurbished them and posted them back and them still not work. If you're local please pop in, if not I'm sure there is a local car key man that can help.

Hi, i have gotten a Citroen c3 key (2 buttons) from a wrecker, is there a way to program myself if i get a copy of my 1 key blade?
@TheCarKeyMan5 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I'm sorry, but if the key has been coded to a different car previously, then it cannot be re-coded to your car. It's a stupid idea making them only programmable once, such a waste and terrible for the environment. :(

Hello Key man, i have a problem, i open my peugeot car key, and dismantle the blade and the button with the spring, the problem is that now i cannot put it all together, and i dont want to buy a new case, you have any video or any help to do this?
@TheCarKeyMan4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tomas, unfortunately not. If the blade, button and spring all come away from the plastic, then it's already broken. With the new cases, it is all sealed in together.
@gdb03604 жыл бұрын
@@TheCarKeyMan not strictly true sir, I bought a new case with blade and in replacing the blade, the (new) button and spring came apart into 4 parts and I'm into 4th hour of trying to piece it back together.

Most important thing not shown here..its how to transfer the key lol
@TheCarKeyMan6 жыл бұрын
Hello Polex. Do you mean swap the blade? There are two good reasons that instead of swapping the blade, you should get it cut. The first reason is that the 'tail' of the key, the piece that goes into the hinge or key holder is often not compatible with teh new case. This means that you take the blade out of the old key and it does not fit into the new key. the more important reason is that you remove the blade by knocking out a very tight pin. When you do this in the case, unless you are very careful, it will split the black plastic and damage the new case. This is the reason we don't show. We made this video and had I made it again, I would include this information. Sorry

Hi Steve, Just an update with regards to my Peugeot 1007 4 Button Key Fob breaking. After double & triple checking that the replacement 4 Button Key fob that I was ordering off the internet matched mine from the inside & out, I ordered it. Thankfully it worked a treat with regards to holding my circuitboard which operated my front sliding doors, also the alarm & immobilser. Only bug bear was having to carry 2 Button Key Fobs. One key fob to alarm open doors & one to hold my Key & Transponder. Now the one holding my Key & Transponder was the original one so it was in a bad way & i wanted to switch the Key & Transponder on to & into the working one. When I looked at the Key & how it was attached to the swing arm mechanism of the original I originally thought it was held on by a very small (the smallest of) Hex or Allen Key but it turned out to be held on by a very small pin. Fast forward to popping into my local hardware & key making store & after explaining what I wanted him to do it was finally removed from the original busted one & firmly fixed onto my new & in working order 4 Button Key Fob. Everything that was from the original including the Physical Key/Transponder/Circuit board & Battery was successfully moved onto & into the one I ordered from the internet at a very affordable price of £11.50 & the joy of only carrying one instead of 2 of those 4 Button Key Fobs. If your patient enough & do the research you can get these annoying key & remotes changed over if your willing to take the time to track down the correct replacement & you don't allow yourself to be talked into paying more than you need to with regards to switching the keys over, then it will be cost effective way of doing this. I still say that the manufacturer's of these combined key & alarm etc fobs need to look into another way of making these as the current format is just too prone to wear & tear & breaking when you least expect it.

Hi, we see this alot. I don't know why this happens. It seems to be that the range of the key gets really low because of a fault in the key. I've not found out why it does it, but will research and let you know. We always have to supply a new key to fix the problem

Where is the repair?
@TheCarKeyMan6 жыл бұрын
Good morning, this is one of the oldest videos on the channel. At the time I made it to just show the roblems and help show the difference in the different cases etc. The main thing with this repair is if possible, get the blade cut instead of swapping the blade over. Every week we see new cases that have been damaged because the blades have been swaped over. This causes the new blade not to flick out

Guys, I know the solution to changing the blade, the blade is attached to main key via small piece of metal, if you have ever changed links on a metal wristwatch you'll know what I'm talking about. The blade is just connected by a little pin that you can punch out with a very small tool and do the same with the replacement key unit, switch the blade over and done, you don't even have to open anything. The pin is a B*tch getting back in, but the blade sits in so much friction anyway I wouldn't bother.
@TheCarKeyMan4 жыл бұрын
Hi Oscar, thanks for the com. The reason we don't recommend the blade swap is that sometimes the new case gets damaged when knocking out the pin. The plastic inside the key is so thin that if you're too rough it splits and the case is no good. But I appreciate the feedback, I made this video so long ago now!

@TheCarKeyMan6 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, when you get a new case, the silver button is help in place and there's no need to build a key press system. There's no point in which the silver button is supposed to come out and be put back in. If it gets to that point, the key is too far gone I'm afraid. Is that what you mean?
