When you're charging and you power on the car, the consumption number in trip goes down. I kept the car powered off every time I charged until the 12 V reset at Circle K Grelland. So the consumption number until that point is correct (I added 1 Wh/km).
But the consumption number for the last part at 31:13 (311 km) is too low because I kept the car running with HVAC on during charging towards the end. You simply don't get 138 Wh/km with e-208 at an average speed of 106 km/h :P
The total consumption is then estimated based on the trip before the 12 V reset.

The only EV tester with consistency and real world road tripping tests, that takes a lot of effort. 1000km is a good test of an EV distance capabilities. All EVs rattle round the city and do the day to day commute we know that, its the distance capability we need to know. Thats why we have DIN Bjorn cutting out the BS Bull Sheeeeet.

10:00 Bjørn:"I'm not sure if they share the power..." The 150kW fast chargers to Grønn Kontakt have dynamic power balancing, and the 150kW is shared between them. If you have the AC option, 4 cars can charge at the same time. The CCS cable comes in a 200A and 400A option. The single sided charger can also charge two cars on DC at the same time, but there is less flexibility due to max 3 cables.

I just bought one of these and i know what that "charging problem" is about. To charge, central locking needs to be activated to lock charging cable to the car. I also noticed from your video that the automatic central locking is active, so when you take keys away from the car, it locks doors automatically. And when you again take keys near to the car, it automatically opens central locking and interrupts charging. Extremely stupid phenomena.... I also noticed this problem and changed central locking setup from cars display so the central locking works only from pressing buttons from the key. And yes, you cannot charge while being inside of the car because you have to lock doors from the outside (cannot lock from the dash when you are in the car with keys). Otherwise love the car and you videos are very entertaining and useful!

@Alex Andrei because the production capacities are too small. There were way too many orders for them to produce in a short time period. If you order now you'll get the car end 2021. Good question! But the fact is that going at 120 km/h will cut down the travel time by a lot. And I timed that each pit stop only cost me 2 minute overhead. This car charges so fast that it still pays off to cruise at 120 km/h and take more stops.

@Vercixx 4 жыл бұрын
@@philippefagnant1841 it takes 60 min to travel 100km at 100km/h and 50 min at 120km/h. That's a 10 min difference. According to Bjorn's range test video, the e208 consumes 241 wh/km at 120 km/h and 154 wh/km at 90 km/h, so I expect aprox 175 wh/km at 100 km/h. That's 64 wh/km difference at 100 km/h vs 120 km/h which for a 100 km distance totals 6400 wh or 6.4 kwh. In this video, at the 2nd stop, charging from 8%, it charged 2.43 kw in 2 min, so 6.4 kw would take aprox 6 min. Considering you arrive earlier by 10 min, you gain 4 min at 120 km/h. Maybe a bit less because you'll have to charge longer to replenish all of your consumption (assume next leg is of the same length) and the charging speed gets lower. But you can also be more thorough in calculation and arrive at the charging station with a battery state of charge of 2-3% to compensate.
@asaha7547
@asaha7547 4 жыл бұрын
@@Vercixx nice calculations! Basically to compensate extra 6,4 kWh while arriving 10 min (1/6 h) faster you need to charge at least at 6,4 / 1/6 = 38,4 kW, which e208 does till 72% SOC, but ideally you should do only if you can get needed range while charging to 66% SOC (52 kW)

Ruben Braekman If you assume you have the most inefficient EV on market (worst case scenario) you’re still going to get 4km to the kWh, so 100km is going to use 25kWh (that’s extremely pessimistic). Most EVs have a minimum 7kWh AC charger onboard, so you’d replace that in about 4 hours.

@@bjornnyland Unless I missed something that charge ended at 90% in the video. It started charging only at 11 kW or below at minute 41 and 85% SOC but the question remains how long would it take for the last 15%? I suppose something in the general area of another 40 minutes but since you got the footage perhaps you got it until the end?
@Hans-gb4mv
@Hans-gb4mv 4 жыл бұрын
It's the reason why for example the Ioniq stops charging at 94% at a fast charger. From that point onwards, you should switch to slow AC charging as that is the max. power the car will take anyway.
@bassbacke
@bassbacke 4 жыл бұрын
@@Hans-gb4mv The question was not "is it good practise to charge to 100%?". It generally isn't. However, I fully understand why Bjørn wants to charge 100% before a 1000 km challenge so the question remains how long does it take at or below the AC charging speed since if it's long enough it might be worth using an AC charger if needed. This is just hypothetical as it was clearly not necessary in this situation.

Driving at night ... well, it's just another way to disturb facts. During the day you will spend time in the trfaffic jam, where the electric cars continue to use lots of energy, and the chargers are all occupied because there are so few. Nicely done man

You missed the main point. Look at average speed. Only a bit above 100 km/h. And that's even at night. You can imagine how it would be during day. As for lower temperature, not much I can do. Sweden is not an option.

I'm not sure why there are so many variables with EV battery/range standard measurements - everyone seems to use a different system. I have no idea what this wh/km/100km stuff means really - my i3 uses mi/kwh which seems to make most sense in the old MPG terms. I know if I average 3.5m/kwh and I have a 38kwh usable battery my range = 133m. Seems easy.
