After one year and 21.000 km with my Ioniq, there hasn't been a charging issue with the car. I still can recommend it. The only issue I had was an unwanted noise coming from the mounting of the back seats, which I could fix with a tape. What still surprises me the most, if you switch off recuperation and use sailing only, how long it takes to get slower. If there is a small decline, the car holds it speed without any energy loss. It is still the efficiency king.

I have one since 4th of February 2019. It has today (4th of June 2020) 47.500 km on the odometer. The efficiency is almost unreal but having sayd that, this is probably the worst car I have ever owned,and I have owned 36 cars. Even 1987 Dodge Aries was better to sit in 😢 And that is the car that almost got the Chrysler factory bankrupt. The worst car I say, yes. Terrible to drive on those Energy saver tires, and not better on the Continental ContiContact 7 winter tires. (I guess I could blame the tires for that) Seating position for me (I'm 200 cm tall) is not good for me. Small space in the trunk, terrible road noise, stupid design to have the front axle lighter than the rear axel and a lot of other things I'm not going to mention here. You might ask if I didn't test before I bought it, and the answer is yes, I did. But not good enough 🙁 I can't wait to get my Model Y and I would very gladly loan it to Bjørn to do some tests on it...... EXCEPT OFF ROAD TEST.... because he has shown us that he can't the "off-roading" 🤣😂 Sorry Bjørn, no offence 🙂

This race and the 1k challenges played a big role when deciding to buy my first EV a year back! Had to rewatch it now. I got the e-208, as with the charge curve update it instantly becomes way more compelling. I always immensely respected the classic Ioniq, but wanted something more compact and the higher base range also covers most of my use cases without need for any charge stop. I also did a 2200km roadtrip to Serbia in it, had a great time. Thank you for all the superb content 🙂

@@jazdan223 It is kind of telling this is the first EV I've seen a video of showing how to reset it and what do you know: it's a French EV. My parents drove Citroën for decades, but switched to Toyota a few years after I had to bail them out with my old Toyota Corolla (their C5 broke down on the way to the airport and my sister would have missed her flight). Since then, they only had a flat battery once, just after they bought it. No other issues in 6-7 years now.

I've owned a Peugeot e-208 as well for close to a year now, and have had many charging issues as well. Car has been back to the dealership multiple times, it's working again. But sometimes still stops charging without a reason. Also the app doesn't work most of the time, so I am unable to check the charging state or pre heat. Based on your video it seems like it's an overall issue with the e-208, just like the high power consumption. Thank you for putting in the time to show the real world use.

What is indeed really exciting is that the old Ioniq is still holding up against today's competition in the same league. It is such a shame that Hyundai screwed up the new version... that 39kWh configuration should be sent to hell, whether if it is in an Ioniq, a Kona or a Niro!

I already watched the livestream on Saturday but this video was nice entertainment. I am thinking of changing car but a little afraid of all new cars that have so many electronics functions, especially the low volt for the 12 volt battery in both EV and fossil cars can probably cause problems for me.
@moestrei
@moestrei 4 жыл бұрын
I would say a modern fossil has many more points of failures than an electric has. Moving parts in electric motor: Two bearings. Moving parts in ice engine: Hundreds. Every car has a separate 12V system, fossil or electric. From all I hear Hyundai EVs are ultra reliable doing 100000km with not even a light bulb failing.

@Bjørn Nyland, was the problem with the last Ionity stop the same as Audi e-tron owners had; that the DC plug had to be held tight in the charging port in order to make it lock properly? It seemed to me that the charging cable did not lock in place, hence the charging would not start. But you treated it as a software issue with a swedish reset, since it worked so guess that settles it.

@Alex-tj1zo
@Alex-tj1zo 3 жыл бұрын
How come we hear so often that consumption in EVs is affecting range but almost never about cost impact ? 🤔 In ICE cars it is always about cost first, because range is no issue generally, ok, but since chargers like Ionity are pushing the prices up, and Freevend is getting harder to find, it makes the efficiency even more important moneywise. I would like to see a compairison in total kwh consumption at the end of any race or trip because big battery means more expensive car, more weight, more consumption, so more costs on every charge.

Peugeot/Opel /PSA, chose the inefficient generator, can't really use the 50 kWh battery, this is not a problem with the drag or aerodynamic! An big mistake, for so much money, it is not acceptable! E Corsa has the same problem!

The sad thing is, the facelift Ioniq would have probably lost by a considerable margin.

Most likely not. A better route planner actually estimates that the new Ioniq will be faster. This is due to a bigger battery and therefore better start before charging is needed.

Wermagst if you regularly do journeys over 250kms that will matter. For the vast majority, they aren’t. Otherwise, the new Ioniq beats it as the range is greater from home. And it has a nicer dashboard, app features etc. Bjorn has a great channel and makes great observations, but there is a lot of emphasis on long distance driving that for most people is a tiny part of their overall driving in a year.

Hi Björn,when you test the e Corsa

@@amiddled That's right if you assume that the battery is always fully charged at the beginning of a longer trip. For people without a charging possibility at home that is rarely the case, especially if the longer trip is not planned days in advance. There the faster charging car will almost always win.

This just begs for an old Ioniq vs new Ioniq long distance race.

Ioniq would win.... He should judt go. Not wait for the 208. Cause this show that Ioniq you can allways trust it and 208 fails. Soo in my mind Ioniq is the wimner!!

It was more a weekend pleasure trip than a true race 😁 Also on a random route with mostly 50 kwh chargers and open highway with light traffic, Pawel would have finnished with time to read a book 😃😃 But the Peugeot is a new model and good results matter for sales, compaired with the Classic Ioniq that is only available as second-hand and can afford to 'take one for the team'. Important is that Peugeot is finally making its first steps towards modern electromobility, and we welcome it into our family. This is the true gain.
