L’s death was a major part of the anime since L was Lights biggest threat, and they just completely butchered it. Also, how in the world can there be black asians? It just makes me so mad. And don’t call me racist because I don’t like how L is black in the movie, I’m disappointed at the movie as a whole. Light should have been Japanese, L should have been Japanese, they should’ve kept Rem, It’s just awful. Also, I used Rem as an example because as I said, L’s death was a MAJOR part in the anime, and for them to remove Rem from the whole movie is awful. I was so excited when I saw that there was a movie, but after seeing all of this stuff I’m definitely not watching it.

I personally think it's more that he has a person he relates to and deep down he finds their chess game enjoyable. (Heck they even implied he misses him to an extent when he sees his "ghost" everywhere and in the last episode where Near wears a mask of L he seems genuinely insulted, stating that Near was nothing compared to L and had "no right" to even *attempt* to emulate him.)
