i had one experience a few years back, but never had anything like it again that i couldn't explain away with my constantly changing medication or paranoia. if i remember right, i had pretty recently moved in with my dad because i hated living with my mom and her then-husband; this new place was a townhouse, and i'd end up living there for four and a half years after this with no other weird experiences like this. i think i would've been about nine or ten at the time, and had pretty much entirely gotten over my fear of the dark by then, but i've got to note that i'd still get pretty paranoid when staying up late around this time. i was up late enough that everyone else in the house was asleep already, though i can't remember the exact time, and i was in bed reading some book. i was starting to get tired so i readjusted myself to get more comfortable, and it was at this point that i set my hand down onto something that made my heart stop for a solid few seconds. it was the very distinct shape of another humanoid hand, and it felt like time slowed as the hand was ripped away with the speed of something afraid of being caught, disappearing over the side of my bed. immediately upon remembering to breathe i balled myself up in the center of my bed (at this point, my bed was placed in the middle of my room, so either side had open space for me to hop off, something i deeply regretted in the moment) and i began yelling for my sister, her husband, my dad, anyone to come into my room, refusing to move or to stop looking at the spot where the hand had been until they all eventually showed up at my door. my sister and her husband looked around the room and under the bed for me despite being skeptical, and of course they found nothing. when they seemed satisfied that i'd be okay and i was calmed down enough, they went back to bed. i slept with my light on that night, and the next day i had my dad go to the store to get me a nightlight. i forgot about the whole thing when there were no more strange happenings in the next few days, and i hadn't really thought about it again until now, several years later. idk, i never had anything like that happen again, but i remember how scared i was that night. honestly, by the time i left that house, if there ever was anything else there with me, it was probably more freaked out by me than i was of it; i was a psychotic little brat during the years i lived there. who knows though, it's nice to think that maybe something else was influencing me at the time, rather than accepting the fact that everything wrong with me was just me.

I wonder what the reaction would be to, legitimately, spending a month living in a famous, haunted beyond all belief, hotel/bed and breakfast/ etc.. To be fair, the human mind is really good at freaking itself out, especially when not fully conscious and awake. So for some people it wouldn't matter how beautiful whatever they're looking at is because their own mind might interpret it in a distorted way. That is pretty much the reason certain people see for example, faces or figures in the darkness, or when they're looking out into a forest, or at an object or art with abstract shapes on/in it.
