This was during a time where everyone took KZbin as just a fun way to express themselves. Way back before the constant stream of fake pranks, drama, extremely edgy content, toxic clickbait, overly obsessive ranting and guilt tripping. It was a way more optimistic internet than the doomer landscape that we’re used to now. Man I miss it … Edit: To the people in the replies who keep saying that some of this shit still existed back then, be aware, these examples were not on nearly as high of a scale as they’re nowadays. The internet was never a perfect place. But most of us can agree, the internet as a whole has become much more toxic over the years for the most part. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. This comment wasn’t stating that none of this bs existed back then, but rather, none of this bs was as big enough to gain as much traction as it has now. Hence why I said, “CONSTANT STREAM OF __”, before labeling these examples. Actually read through the comment before replying with such idiocy.

Hell nigahiga never once in his videos asked to subscribe and was #1 for a while. People used 240p cameras to record legendary videos, literally anyone anywhere could become a star. There was no entry barrier, you didnt have to have the gear or algorithm knowledge or social media presence or literally anything to make it. All was fair game. Truly sad that a time like that will never come again and I wish i knew how good we had it pre-google and how short lived it was, so i would invest more into youtube back then. Its true, in 2013 people were youtubers because they did it as a hobby and they enjoyed making content to make others happy... People back then were nice because they were happy enough with making videos, youtube wasn't even big back then... And now its just people becoming youtubers because you can get rich and famous if you get lucky enough, and its disrespectful towards people that worked hard for many years, those people gave their lives to make others happier, while these people give 1 hour max to earn a quick buck

Even though Anthony left Smosh, Ian is still starring in sketches and they have some quality content coming out in Smosh Games and their other side channels on the regular.

For those here in 2024 Jennamarbles - Gone for four years now Smosh - Never stopped really. Just slowed down considerably and Anthony left. BUT they are back now with Anthony. They don’t upload super often but they are by no means dead anymore Nigahiga - I think he still streams occasionally and he uploads on his second channel “HigaTV” but his main youtube channel is abandoned and HigaTV isn’t as popular and doesn’t upload as good content

Pewdiepies, just… unawareness to how big he is, or himself just downplaying kinda how important he is, just really shows the type of person he is. A lot of really great people kinda view themselves that way. Obviously he is aware he is huge, but he’s too humble to really just acknowledge it all. When he does, he always views himself as lesser, even if he is the way bigger channel.

Markipler swear he's there for us. I'm proud to have know pewdiepie for the time I did. Good run. But with Markipler I was more on that Fandom. I regret not watch pewds rise, because I was one of those that did not like his content at first. He grew on me though and I'm happy to know about him as much as I did. Compared to all the other youtubers, he and Markipler were the most moral people on the platform.

Losing relatability is the consequence of putting a platform into the mainstream then throwing billions of dollars at it. It's why people often felt closer to their KZbinrs when it was just 100 of them or something, especially since the KZbinr can still identify each subscriber by name.
