Pex A Uponor leak in San Diego.

If I understand this correctly the issue isn't with Pex but because muni water contains Chloramines, since Chloramines are also causing copper pipes to fail as well. Seems likely Uponor & Uponor customers need to file a class action lawsuit against mundis using Chloramines in water supplies. Looks like Chloramines are also slightly toxic to make matters worse! Flint Michigan on a national scale. I have Uponor in a new house, but on well water that is filters with a carbon filter as well as sediment filters. I hope I won't run into any problems.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, many plumbers are claiming uponor is the best way to go with the PEX a pipe, what do you think of pex b, PEX b and crimp fittings is what I have been using, no problems yet but I am concerned after seeing these videos, I hope this is not another situation like the old gray polybutylene pipe that used to be put in homes and had so many ruptures , what pipe are you repiping with now? What do you recommend? I think any pipe that we put in should be able to withstand any additives that the water department puts in the water. If we can drink the water surely the pipe should be able to carry it.

I use Zurn Pex B with Zurn Cold expansion fittings and Zurn Cold expansion Rings.

Is Pex A only only having these problems in areas where water utilities use Chloramine?

Yes. I have never seen a Zurn Pipe Failure From Breakpoint Chloramines.

If water is stagnant in the pipe for a long time due to non-use of a fixture, will the ammonia continue to eat the pipe or is "new" water required constantly for this cracking to occur?

Both are true. Ammonia is very stable and effects the pipe fresh or stagnant.

Ever failure is its own story. They all are a little unique. I Hate them all because they ruin the homeowners and my life and they always happen at the worst possible moment.
