I have this same machine. Got it for cheap because it "wasn't working". I figured I would try my hand at repairing it. All I was told is that they knew nothing about it but the needle wasn't going up and down. When I got it home, indeed the needle wasn't going up and down...but only because it was set to wind a bobbin! $40 was well worth the risk. Original "suitcase" and everything, even original purchase paperwork, from 1958 if I recall.

I have had two of them Pfaff 332S at one time great machines like you say. One I traded away for a classic car part to a lady friend out of state and the other I still have .Germans are the best when it comes to engineering for sure .One was given to me and the other I got in a Thrift Shop for $18 .Great Video!

My mother was given a 332 when a friend of hers passed away, as she had her own, it was offered to me. I used it to sew canvas yesterday after not using it for 15 years and it performed flawlessly, i had to look up manufacture date and was told 1957 as the only year. If only they built things like this today, that worked so well. thanks for video.

Glad to see you covering this model! I think this line of machines is under appreciated! I'm not sure if you're aware, but the "automatic" marketing refers to the needle-threading system; if you find a copy of the original manual, it will explain. It doesn't seem very useful to me, but it's a neat idea! I've been lucky enough to find two of them complete and in like-new cosmetic shape that I've given as gifts. Both needed the same repair, which I have read is common: The original Pfaff grease dries out and becomes sticky and varnish-like on machines that sit for a long time. In my experience, this mainly impacts the mechanism that reads the cams. Some careful disassembly, cleaning, and oiling has gotten both of my machines back in action and sewing flawlessly, even with the original belts. One of the machines I gave to a family member and it has been used by an avid sewist constantly for years, without any repairs and minimal maintenance. While I hate that some people market machines like this as "industrial" or "heavy duty" in the second-hand market, they will sew through some heavier materials than a lot of other domestic machines. In my opinion, if you need a truly do-it-all portable machine at an affordable price, these old free-arm-convertible Pfaffs are the way to go.

Thanks for the video. The pattern wheel also has 40 more patterns on the reverse side. Since you didn't mention it I didn't know if you were aware that there are more patterns to be had. I have both the 332-260 (this is the model that came from the factory with the embroidery mechanism the 332 is straight and zigzag stitch only) and a Necchi Supernova Ultra. Both are fantastic machines. I prefer the Pfaff. It just "sounds/feels" better as it runs. Maybe just my imagination. Thanks again.

I have a 332 with none of those decorative stitch options, just straight and zig zag. It's a powerful machine and I'm trying to use it to sew heavier materials (1000d Cordura 420d packcloth) to make bags. Something isn't quite right though and something is slipping, resulting in the needle hitting the hook sometimes. There must be a set screw that need ssome tightening somewhere.
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 3 жыл бұрын
Needle deflection is common when feeding is difficult and "helping hands" intervene. You may be pushing the limits of the machine. Check you foot pressure and feed dog height.
@SeanKeesler
@SeanKeesler 3 жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderDyer this is more a matter of timing. The shaft that turns the hook seems to be slipping and the needle ends up mistimed and fails to enter the slot and the bobbin case. It's hitting that rotating hook assembly before the slot comes around. I've definitely learned not to force the fabric through and bend the needle forwards and backwards. A good lesson.

I don't know if you still need the information, but those machines with the decorative stiches usually would have the additional "Automatik" in their name . The normal machines would just sew straight or zic-zac-stiches. But it was possible to modificate them with that special "Automatik" device afterwards. Sadly (at least in my experience fromm Germany) often the normal machines will be falsly advertised as a "Automatik"-machine. You can Tell the Differenzen by Pictures of the machine in question. If it is an "Automatik"Machine, it will have that flap and dials in the lid of the machine. The normal machines (at least speaking for the 332) were produced because they were cheaper. Let's not forget that the 332 was the absolute high-end-machine for non-industrial uses produced by Pfaff at her time and even one of the first free-arm-machines ever(at least as far as I know). So the 332 Automatik was really expensive and Not everybody could afford it. Hope that answers the question.

There is a knob that raises and lowers the feed dogs. You may have changed its position when you cleaned your machine and put it into the dropped feed dog position. Here is to part in the video where I identify this knob. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4bTenqchdx9q7s

@@AlexanderDyer Thank you for your reply, however, I think my situation is a bit more complicated than just turning that knob. I had the whole throat plate out and removed the feed dogs to do an extensive cleaning (I know now that was a mistake). I probably moved something out of place and now the timing is off. When I dropped the feed dogs back in place, they are lower at the front than at the back. There must be something that needs to be engaged or lined up, but I don't know what. I am so frustrated with myself :(

This machine would stitch leather in an applique setting but any sort of seam construction would be very onerous and burdensome. For leather and upholstery and thick fabric construction I recommend a triple feed sewing machine. These home machines are best suited for garments and curtains and such.

How did you put a servo motor on it?
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 11 ай бұрын
This does not have a servo motor. It is a pretty standard ~1 amp home sewing machine motor.

Mr. Dyer in a past video you mention you sell sewing machines but I don't see any for sale on your website or ebay store. Is that a past venture or do you still sell them?
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 3 жыл бұрын
I will have this one up for sale soon on eBay.

@@AlexanderDyer I have been looking for a good used walking foot or unison feed locally. In videos you have mentioned the Juki 1541, the Singer 211 and the Consew 206RB. Are there any others to watch for? What do you think of the "portable walking foot" like the Sailrite LS-1 - Consew CP206RL - and others that look to have been made by the same company?

Good solid machine but the stitching looks rough.
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer Жыл бұрын
I think what you are noticing is due to the coarseness of the fabric. That is a stiff and rugged material for outdoors like awnings. I also notice this when I'm sewing heavy canvas.
