I think the reason why you are consistently seeing shots close to the higher percentage, is because you’re hitting every shot at perfect. Back down on pro, you would see more of a random variety of distances, unless you’re hitting it perfect there too every time. Great video to break it down though.

I use 95% 90% 85% and so on. The middle ground of the percentages. Very rarely it’s a weird number

Interesting thing I noticed just from the shots you took in this video. You lost a lot more carry yards off of the top penalty percentage when you aimed directly into the rough, than you did when you hit full shots into the green. You only lost about a percent (off the high percentage) in all of the full shots into the green - in this video. This disparity is potentially indicative of the beginner mode providing an additional assist to mitigate the hazard penalty. Nevertheless, your experiment to test the percentages is a worthwhile endeavor. That said, I'll test this out on the default pro mode and see if perhaps there's any hidden assist going on there, as well; and to see if the theory of 2-3% off the top penalty checks out.

After some testing heavy rough into flat greens on pro, the carry seems to bottom out at a couple percent higher than the low percentage. For, example, if the percentages were 81-88, you would typically want to divide your carry goal into 83%, since the ball would lose up to 17%. There's still the occasional flier, mainly with overswing, which plays nearer to the high percentage. I'm glad that you started this discussion though, because before I was always playing the high percentage total, and now I will make sure to take carry yardage into account.

So what your saying is it's always 2% off the higher number of the rough? So for a 73 to 83 rough you would calculate it at 81%? 155 x 81% = 126 yard club.

That is correct. Sometimes it was 3%. Give or take a yard

But only with a 6-4 iron and hybrids right? Wedges seem to ignore the rough...what do you think?

I mean normal shots with irons. Pitch, splash, lob plus normals wedges are 100% from the rough.

@@conrow1157 I saw similar results with all clubs 100% shots in the rough. The percentages will be higher with wedges because they are more lofted allowing for easier cut through rough. The more delofted the harder a club can go through the rough.

Does it benefit me to playing my career in very hard settings

No. I would find a difficulty you can shoot -8 or better in. The mycareer it's best to get a lot of birdies because you most likely are using it to get vc or unlock clubs. Easier is better to get those clubs. If you are doing it for a challenge and not for rewards then possibly, that's up to your preference.
