Wow what a collection! I have my first lonely orchid. But it is well loved... and special I have learned. It has a flowering stem that is over 4 years old. Has anyone ever heard of one lasting that long?

Hi Danielle, I was watching this video with your orchid that has no leaves. I had a Trichoglottis Philippinense that suffered from fusarium & was able to save it using only hydrogen per oxide as my fungicide. There were only 2 leaves left when I cut the stem almost at the top that I found out it has fusarium. The leaves were almost dead but thru patience & my TLC, now it has roots that can absorb water. It took me about 8 mos. before it recovered. With your video, I learned that orchids are really an amazing plants.

💚 This video was the BEST!!! 🎉 I too have two mini phals in that same furrowed condition and also purchased in 2017. Could ours be sisters? 😂 lololol 😂 I cut the double bloom spikes put them in wc nothing changed and they're now back in NZ spaghum moss doing a bit better but probably since I cut the double spikes off. 🤔 Time will tell... It's so sad to cut those blooming spikes off 😥 I've been feeding them Vanda feed as well. Thanks Danielle for all you do. AZ 🌞😎🌞

Mini Phals 🙄🙄🙄 Just when you think they are happy they try to die on you. 😂😂😂 But seriously I know many people use moss to create a humid environment for rootless and severely dehydrated orchids. I find when the leaves wrinkle like this one is it’s usually a sign new roots are coming. 🤞🏻 It is sad to cut spikes and I very rarely do but in this case I needed her to focus on living instead of maintaining the spike.

🤩🤩🤩 I just can't with that stunning view! 🤪🥊 this is what does start the bug! And, I agree with you... it can be frustrating but oh the rewards when you walk into a room like your's! This is such a cool video ❤🙌🏼❤ and it takes me back to all the years of having subbed to you and followed your journey. Love this video. Oh... and yes!!! I was just about to add that the mass producers are now growing more and more phals with terminal spikes and you suddenly bring that fact up 😅😅 and yes... shame on those growers!! Horrible practice! Anyways... still watching but wanted to send you love, peace and hugs from España and express my reaction when your video started ❤🙌🏼❤

My dear friend Nina! I still can’t believe you took so long to finally make your first comment and I am so glad you did! You are a much valued friend who has been along with me on my journey so thanks for never getting bored or giving up on me! I get so very mad at these mass growers. I understand they need people to buy them to make money but selling a plant with a terminal spike is like selling a plant you’ve purposefully infected with a deadly virus, it’s going to die. And unlike the ice gimmick that a lot of people are now wise to, if your a new grower you have no idea what a terminal spike is. So here in the USA you are spending $20-30 of your hard earned money on a doomed plant! 😡😡😡 Sorry, rant over 😎 Thank you so much for watching! I hope you have a lovely weekend and I am accepting your love peace and hugs and sending it back you with gratitude!

@@daniellesorchidranch1591 back in the day, I was mesmerized by your water culture... I had nothing to say, to add... I was just taking it all in and you explained everything so clearly, that, the mistakes I was making, made me feel bad that I could not do the same for my orchids. I was, and still am so fascinated by your success with water culture... I never thought it possible, and just watched and watched. I tried water culture based on your videos, and I did a botch up job of those orchids. Poor things. So, I thought, there can be only one, and that is you 😅 If any other industry were to sell something that is doomed to break, fail or become useless in it's function (as long as the consumer handles it accordingly) that industry would be called out, shut down IF they don't make changes ... seems like mass producers of orchids have liberties that no other businesses have, and that, is daylight robbery. Coupled with the fact that we are dealing with living beings, makes it even more horrible of a practice!!

@@NinjaOrchids I agree, these mass growers should have to answer to someone about selling plants with a death sentence but apparently 🤷🏼‍♀️ So all we can do is put the word out there. I know not everyone of my subscribers watch every video but if a good percentage do and they hear about it hopefully it will eventually become known but, not much we can do otherwise. I’m so glad you did finally have something to comment on in my videos so we could become friends. I just had a long day in the grow room caring for the ‘quids ☺️ at some point I plan on sending you an email about some plants we have in common that I am new to and could use your advice but.....finding the time, yah, a little difficult. I feel so busy in the winter and then the spring comes and wow I realize I have so much more to do each week! 🤣😳😉 Sending you virtual hugs and lots of peaceful weekend vibes your way! 🥰🌸🌺💐🌷

I know you can! It takes time to get it right but these plants are so forgiving and they will teach you if you pay attention to them. Water culture is difficult, that’s why so many people give up. Plus once you’ve got it, it is a lot of work to keep the vases clean and water them. So many people with larger collections give up on the method or just grow a few in water culture. I personally think the extra work is worth the effort because I love seeing the roots grow and my plants are So Happy! If in the end you decide water culture is not for you, don’t feel bad! You have to grow your plants in a way that is comfortable for you. ☺️ The principals involved in growing orchids is the same no matter how you choose to grow them.

Can I use the miracle. Grow fertilizer for orchids in water culture?
@daniellesorchidranch1591
@daniellesorchidranch1591 3 жыл бұрын
You always want to use an orchid fertilizer. I think miracle gro does make an orchid fertilizer. Which fertilizer you use is really a personal choice. I did a lot of research before I picked my fertilizer. But I think the miracle gro is a urea based fertilizer which is good if you grow in warmer climates.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have learned so much from you and continue to learn, which makes me more confident. I don't panic as often anymore 🤣 I had never heard of complex Phals loosing all leaves except due to crown rot so I never made the connection but there's a Phal species, lowii if I remember correctly, that is decíduous in her native habitat and I know it is used in the mix of hybridizing, maybe to make Phals more resistant to cooler environments. I also read that some wild Phals discard their leaves, although not being strictly deciduous, when climatic conditions get too harsh. They enter in a sort of dormancy, loosing their leaves to avoid transpiration... Considering complex hybrids have such a mix of genes who knows what is in them? All of it is so fascinating. Have a great weekend, Danielle 😍❤️

I am so glad you are continuing to gain confidence! I feel like every year that goes by I know more, I never stop learning! Such a fascinating process! That’s interesting about deciduous phals I didn’t know that 🤔 I think with my equestrius I stressed her by giving her to much light and so she dropped her leaves. But her crown felt firm so I decided to test if it would live and within 1-2 weeks there was a new leaf starting! They are so amazing and resilient! They really have a will to live. Thank you so much for watching! It’s always nice to hear from you! 😊☺️😊

Such a Great video!! Your babies are gorgeous! Just a thought....I know you mentioned you use well water and I have both, my city water has a TDS of over 1000PPM (Yikes) and the well water was 150ppm so I would use that and had issues with my orchids. I bought the Megahome water distiller (Not cheap) and ommmgggg.... that was it, it was nothing short of magic, the TDS is 1 or 2ppm and apparently my orchids are snobby and like the pure stuff, but seriously, it’s like I have a new orchid collection now 😂😂😂

A very good observation! I’ve learned a lot about water and nutrients over the years that has contributed to their overall health. The type of fertilizer and quality of water do have a large impact on our plants! I’ve covered this pretty thoroughly in my fertilizer videos but perhaps I should have included it in this video as well 🤔 thank you for pointing it out. Btw 1000ppm city water!!! 😱🥵😳

I know from watching your video that my orchid in root bounded. I have had it about 5 years now, store brought. My question is my orchid has adapted and the roots are growing on the outside of the pot, it still is flowering, they are very long and green. Do I put them on the inside or outside of the Clear vase.

The Vanda is my Sansi Blue that took me 4 years to get to bloom! It put up a spike in October so I wasn’t expecting another spike so soon but I’ll definitely not complain 😉 Maybe your equestris will have a more pleasant scent 😝 if not, it’s not a strong fragrance so as long as you don’t stick your nose in there you shouldn’t smell it! Thanks for watching! Hope you have a great weekend! It’s going to be Hot here! 🥵😳🙄
