I'm running into something similar, but I'm using a Zenmuse H3D3 gimbal with GoPro camera. It got up close and personal with a forest. Maybe I can find parallels to the problem you solved. Translation: I hope my repair solution is as quick and pain-free as yours!!

This is a well done video, and I thank you for making it. But it doesn't address the other axis, and problems with it, which also cause the shaking, intermittent behavior like your video. I had the same problem, and did what you did here. Sadly, I seem to have trouble with the other axis as well. I've been searching, but no one else seems to have the same problem. If anyone has experience in that area I'd love to hear about it. Thanks again.

it protects the flex cable from abrasions during a crash that can sever the flex cable. So yes to an extent it protects the flex during a crash

Has the Horizontal Motor been stopped from separating by your guards or will the motor separate on having a heavy landing, thereby snapping the cable.

I had the same issue, but I had to align both axis, the vertical, and the tilt, If your unit don´t solve the issue with the alignment of the Vertical, you have to align the tilt that goes with the camera, this is not as easy as you do the vertical Thanks for this video, and Im going to buy your flex cable guard.

i am gobsmacked!! My camera did this exact same spasmodic motion after my first crash. I sent it back to my authorised dealer/repair agent who was only to happy to say there was no repair possible and i was billed 600 UKP for a new camera and gimbal to be fitted. They sent out the drone back to me without my old damaged one (for parts) so i requested they returned it, to which they have. However wasnt my old camera they returned as it had someone elses memory card in it. So god knows what is wrong with the one they sent me. I wish i'd seen this video before i returned it for repair :(

You should demonstrate how the protection works with the gimbal set on. I feel like they might rub or the added weight might cause unstable videos. Lets see a video I will buy and many easily! This is genius if it works. My only concern is how gimbal gets affected. I don't want to lose smooth shots I want camera centered while it sways back and forth.

It's made with PLA plastic, it's very light and strong. It's does not cause any shake and it's not rub on each other in flight. I will upload a test flight video of it this week.

Just snapped the flex cable. Any solutions for this or do I just need to get a whole new camera and gimbal? Cheers mate as I was doing so well until my big fingers bloody pulled to hard.

Steve Maxwell It is possible to get the cable but might not be easy. I know there is a company called atkdrones based out of utah that offers a replacement service for this cable.

I have order a gimbal guard from you yesterday. I concerning that would not solve my issue. I was following your great fixing video tutorial of turning the roll shaft to horizon level and it WORKED. the problem is after flight or two it is returning to the be not horizontal leveled and I have to do it again and again. this is why I have order my gimbal guard. is there a way to lock that shaft better ?

Aaron Cohen yes, you might want to use a tiny amount of epoxy in order for it to hold it's position

Do your guards keep the cable intact if the camera separates in a crash? I can't tell if they would from the video. Thats how I broke my cable.

good video. i fixed the horizontal problem like you did . now the camera is horizontally centered. the gimbal came back to normal. but then before flying, the camera just popped out in my hands. The ribbon kept the camera attached. How can i stop the camera from popping out?

iRepairMD KZbin i rewatched the video. at around 0:50 seconds you show the camera where it seperated. but when you put the 2 guards, i don't see that either of them is actually holding the 2 pieces together. the camera and the back part of the gimbal. horizontal sensor part.

I am going to buy the guards. Nice work on those. Question. I had a bad crash and had to replace the entire camera. It works great on my tablet (android) for first person view but shows a no internet connection on my Galaxy 3. Any idea how to fix this.

Will the Horizontal motor be kept in place and not separate in a heavy crash by your guards, therefore stopping the cable from snapping.

Hello! I had the same problem as you with my phantom 2 vision plus and I did exactly what you did, it worked! The camera was level again! But after the next flight I had the same problem. I tried to fix it again like you did and the camera was level again. But after the next problem the problem was back. Do I really need to do this after every flight? ... Thanks :-)

Hi, Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. By the way, is it the same method for restoring Zenmuse HD-3D? Broke my 3rd Zenmuse gimbal, so i thought of harnessing parts from all 3 gimbals, finally finished assembling using several different parts from all three gimbals. Now on startup the gimbal just seems to go crazy and out of control, making grinding noises, moving on all axis, its just acting haywire. Checked all the hex screws, they are all tightened, did factory reset by shorting two points on the main board, updated to the latest firmware. Just don't know what to do, i just don't want to go and waste another 300$ for a new zenmuse. After watching your video, i think it has something to do with the position of those Potentiometers.

After safely landing my Vision 2 Plus in high winds, a huge gust of wind blew it into the water before I could get to it. Weird feeling seeing it go into the drink; I felt helpless but glad I restrained myself from diving in. Anyway, after meticulously rinsing off the salt water in the shower and drying it with a hair dryer, miraculously everything worked BUT, I cannot get an image of my photos in my ipad although the pictures and videos come out great.I figure it is the wifi but I cannot find the wifi antenna anywhere unless it is attached to one or both of the regular antennas in the legs. What should I do or what can I do? The menus and GS and GPS are all perfect. p.s.: forwarning: a wet battery is dangerous. Started smoking badly!! Radio Shack disposed FAST!!

it does get hot but not incredibly hot. it gets pretty warm. It's only really hot if it's jammed.

Ive done the repair and replaced the ribbon cable, it all went well...however my camera doesn't work anymore, i get absolutely nothing video or stills from it when even after the crash the camera was still recording.....any advice??? gimbal all works beautifully. just no video.

Can you repair a DJI Inspire 1 cable to the camera gimbal. I hit a limb and the gimbal wires pulled out of the connector. The wires were carefully pushed back into the connector and the gimbal works but has shuttering when flying. I don't get the smooth gimbal with floating camera like before. I tried to find a replacement ribbon cabal but no one sells it yet.

I crash drone broke the cable. I replaced the cable and I had the same problem with the camera jitters and did exactly like the video but it's still jumping back and forth. I tried 4 times checking that it was level. What else could it be. I thought maybe resetting camera.

That i dont think is a problem. The gimbal was probably adjusting itself. For example maybe on the phone he set the pitch down therefore the gimbal went down after it finished leveling. Thats my guess...

Mine does this also. It is normal. It is the starting point for my set up. I always have to readjust the camera prior to flight. If I do not have a connection then it goes to this point also.

Can I send my camera to you the problem I'm having is I was in a crash and now the gimble buzzes twice then wait three seconds and does it again there is no action with the gimbal but it does show a picture through the camera to my phone. I did exactly what you showed on your video but nothing. The buzzing seems to be coming from the side of the gimbal where the camera turns up and down right on the shaft. Ty in advance. By the way I purchased your ribbon protectors and they work great everybody should get a pair.

Perfect tip; exactly what I needed to know. Video tip for you. Use MANUAL focus. You are fighting with auto-focus the entire time; very distracting. This is NOT when you want auto-focus. Thanks for the info, though.

My buddy and I both bought the "snap on" parts for our new Phantom Vision 2+ and both had fitment problems. T he part that is installed first in the video (yes, we watched as we did the work) goes on pretty well but the tab that is supposed to "snap" into place does not. iThe tab will not reach the screw detent. The second piece ($20.00) does not fit at all. Neither his nor mine will fit Yes this sucks Now what?? we would like the parts we ordered to fit! A great idea but poor tolerances on the parts

Another cheaper way to protect your ribbon cables is to apply packaging tape to the cables.

check your cable connection, it might have a small cut.

has it crashed before, if so one of your sensors needs to be reset.

if you had a gimbal separation from the Drone from acrash it's also possible that one of your 3 ribbon cables connecting your Gimbal to the drone is not making a secure connection.

I did not get a gimbal separation. The drone fell on the grass from crashing in a tree at about 15 feeds . the drop was not that hard. no physical damage… I am so sad.
