Can you imagine watching phantom for the first time and the chandelier JUST FALLS

It would be pretty realistic 💀

I remember the first time I saw it. No show or prop or scene has given me chills like that since. Truly a spectacular show.

It is really well done for such a complex show. Have seen it in NY and London, and the technical feats are incredibly impressive!!

I don’t need to… My first Phantom experience was in Las Vegas when I was 13. That’s the biggest chandelier any production has had, and when that thing drops, it DROPS. Full speed, strobing lights, and stops about 10-15 ft above your head. Mind you, I was sat DIRECTLY underneath it. So much so that the hole beneath it would have swallowed me. So when that thing fell, the energy of everyone screaming, along with the rush of air that thing creates as it falls, made the entire thing feel real. Which is why since the show is closing, Vegas needs to reopen the show for good. That theater was built specifically for it.

I saw this back in '99 at the Majestic Theater and it's a totally differently feeling when you see this masterpiece live. As soon as the pipe organ kicks in, the floor vibrates, your chair shakes, and a plethora of emotions runs through your body. You feel joy, fear, suspense, awe, and so much more. It's sensory overload and it never gets old. But in this particular video, was the overture cut short? If yes, that's a shame. It's a very powerful piece and would be sad if people didn't get to experience the whole thing, especially if it's their first time seeing it live.

Musicians are amazing to me. I could never read music well so my time as a musician was very short at the piano, violin and guitar. These people take my breathe away. Thanks for doing what you do!
@TheRealityfades5 жыл бұрын
the overture first half is pre-recorded as is the title song on Broadway. I have been going to the Majestic for 21 years.

This is why you always get ground floor seats so you can get to talk to mucisians and conductors we are the most underappreciated people in any musical
@bassplayer2011ify5 жыл бұрын
I never forget about the people in the pit. Being a musician myself I know what it takes to put on a great performance.
@jack75324 жыл бұрын
I’d say the hundreds of backstage technicians dressers etc are even more over looked than the orchestra. It’s really sad that only the actors get credit when it takes so much more to put on a show. Whether your an actor a techie a musician the sm everyone is important and deserves respect not just the actors.
@thatonedud83252 жыл бұрын
Wait! You can do that???? I would absolutely love to talk to them and get autographs from a few of the players and conductors

I sat in Orchestra row M seat 111 (Great seats btw), and I thought that the chandelier fell quite slowly. However, when seeing the view of a front row seat during the crash, I see it differently.

Did anyone else notice the angel centerpiece move up when the red curtain dropped so it wasn't in the way of the chandelier?
@tobyfinney7683 жыл бұрын
That's because the angel lowers with the phantom on it while he sings "all I ask of you (reprise)".

I got front row seats to this show and it was amazing. My dad got the tickets by going to their website and got the tickets from the winter sale they had going on at that time. If you guys wanted to know that The Phantom of the Opera just turned 28 on Broadway this year.

who was conducting (iirc that show has something like 4 regular conductors who rotate as opposed to 1 fulltime and the having the keyboard players serve as assistant MD's)

That is David Lai.

Rob Oddi cool. Is Phantom the only show on Broadway that has more than one main Musical Director (I know others have a main and just about every Keyboardist is either an Assistant or Associate but it seems Phantom has more than one main conductor, is that right? (iirc the two Musical Supervisors (David Caddick and Kristin Blodgette) alco serve as conductors too, I was lucky enough to have Kristin at the performance I saw in June 2010)
@commander9018 жыл бұрын
David Caddick was conducting when I saw it in September. Turned around and shook hands with me at the end. He is a two time Grammy winner. Have also seen Kristen Blodgett.

I can see how Broadway have done it and why from a technical point of view but our amateur production did it better. This moved too slow.
@Aaron-ru6ld4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the speed is what really kicks it
@ethantylerbaysa15174 жыл бұрын
It moves slow because it is controlled not automated and they need to see how close it is to the audience to they know when to swing it on the stage before it hits someone it almost hit the conductor
@bediebysstar19394 жыл бұрын
Ethan Tyler Baysa The newer productions of Phantom on tour have the chandelier crash at accelerating speeds, most certain,y faster than this Broadway production. It’s transparent that if they had wanted to, they could almost certainly drop the chandelier faster.
