Got invited to watch the 30th Anniversary of Phantom and wow has Peter Jöback gotten better as Phantom. He is very reminiscent of Michael Crawford with the softness of Hugh Panaro and the vulnerability of Ramin Karimloo. Amazing amazing Phantom.

Ok wow Samantha Hill and Peter Joback are a truly phenomenal Phantom and Christine pair in my opinion! I adore both of them individually as these characters but also the chemistry between the two of them and the way that their portrayal of their individual characters work amazingly well together. Their voices sound amazing together as well! I was getting serious Michael Crawford vibes from Peter's phantom. But he still made it his own. And I thought that Samantha played Christine perfectly. This was great to watch!

Peter has always said that his "version" of his phantom is not that macho "ghostly scary" vibe (especially since he is gay it doesn't really work x3) he instead does this "abused child" kinda vibe wich I like alot more than other Phantoms

Peter Joback is my favourite phantom, mostly because I saw him and Samantha in Phantom a few years ago in New York. His voice creates the sense of madness the phantom has due to the higher pitch. His characterization is absolutely amazing, he moved me to tears with his portrayal of the phantom. It was truly beautiful ❤️
@keelieak8 жыл бұрын
Yes about the "sense of madness!" His first words are sung with such intensity, I'd be shaking if I were Christine! Haha I think a higher-pitched Phantom, is somehow so much more intimidating than a deeper one. It's so much more cutting, and "I'm superior to you" sounding. I remember hearing Michael (who Peter sounds get similiar to) deliver those words for the first time as a little girl, and how it gave me goosebumps and nervous butterflies in my stomach.
@naritoes8 жыл бұрын
I agree with both statements.

Agreed. and actually, phantom shouldn’t have a deep voice according to his living habit. Including improper diet and lacks of vitamin E (sunlight). It makes him unhealthy and the high-pitch makes sense here 👍🏻

After watching this performance, I feel terrible that the applause Peter received at the 25th Ann performances at Broadway and West End were so dismal. He is an absolutely brilliant POTO who sings in such a wide range of raw emotions. Also, he brought his own flair to the character like crawling for example which I don't think I have seen the other POTO do. Also, his enunciation is the best amongst all the POTO I have heard because we can hear every single word he is singing. And at the end of this video clip, he says "Oh Christine" and we could feel his heartbreak, heartache and yearning for Christine. A BIG WOW! Bravassimo!!

I watched Peter Joback in London in April 2012 as the Phantom and being a Phan for far too long I can tell that his voice is extraordinarily close and reminiscent of the original recording voice of Mr Michael Crawford . Actually, not having seen the musical until then as I closed my eyes I thought I was listening to my CD of the OLC back in my room. His voice is suitable for the Phantom and he deserves more credit than he has gotten. Wish I could see him again for the 30th Phanniversary in NYC.

I actually kind of dig that the Phantom has a Swedish accent. It's fitting in a way because in the novel Christine Daae is supposed to be from Sweden.
@blackngoldcuttlefish33907 жыл бұрын
Fun trivia fact.....you can find scans of a second handwritten draft or something like that online from Leroux (or at least you could a few years ago) ...and in the Epilogue it looks like he wrote that Erik originally was from the same (Swedish) city as Christine was...but then it was scratched out and replaced with the current stuff (born near Rouen). It almost seemed to suggest he had seen her there in Sweden before, in the era of going from fair to fair. But, again, it was scratched out. My guess is, it's possible Leroux realized "wait, the math/age difference doesn't work." But that could be why his name was originally Erik. And in the in the Gaulois (serialized version in 1909, before the novel edition)....when Christine asks if his name Erik means he is Scandinavian, Erik says "I have no name/country... and I chose that name of Erik to get closer to you." (Lol, creepy!) But then by the novel version, it got changed to the current phrase "and I picked up that name of Erik at random." Which fits more because it didn't seem like Erik had just recently chosen that name (since the Persian called him that). Anyway, I think all that comes from the fact that maybe way once upon a time Leroux had intended for Erik to be Swedish, too. Did not end up in the final draft of the story, of course! But all that just to say -- yeah I'm not mad at the Phantom having a Swedish accent either :P Oh and I swear all this is true, lol, I'm not a crazy "fanfiction replacing canon" type or anything at all
@Luka11806 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the Phantom is not. He is supposed to be from the Normandy, which is today French. He's French. Not Swedish. Or maybe it can be seen as him pretending to be the father, but I don't really buy it when people say he did that anyway. He only alluded to that with the lines "Wandering child" and "flattering child." Finally... I don't hear much of an accent here honestly. I think he did away with it pretty well. There is a tiny bit. But not a lot. Same for John Martin Bengtsson, a Swedish actor and singer who's the second Phantom in the current Danish production. You can hear he's not completely Danish, but it is hard to tell. It's been 10 years since our last of Phantom by the way... I hope it won't be as long till it's back again in my country-

I love how when she faints he is all like "shit. she passed out. what am i supposed to do? should I carry her to the bed/boat? no, i think I'll leave her there. Maybe I'll just cover her with my cape... yes, I'll do that." I remember here in London he carried Sofia before she fell and tucked her in the boat. I know that they don't do that on Broadway for safety issues...

I like how he showcases the mannequin to her like he's a model on 'The Price is Right'. Then, when Christine faints and he stoops over her trying to figure out what to do, he wiggles his fingers, like, 'um. . . oh, wait! I know!' before covering her with his cape; it's SO cute! FYI, I like it better when the productions have him catch Christine and use his upper-body strength to carry her to the bed. . . boat-thing; it's more romantic and masculine, but the 'spirit fingers' wins out in this case and makes the 'floor fainting' acceptable.

This would explain an incident back in April this year. I'd gone to see the show at Her Majesty's and the board outside said that Ben Forester was The Phantom that night. I'd heard mixed reviews of him, but my understanding was that his range is a little "lacking" in places. Forward to the mirror scene and The Phantom booms out and I think "he's actually really good" but during the boat part, I realized that The Phantom was actually Scott Davis, who I've seen before and is incredible. But, his voice didn't seem right. I think the sound people didn't realize they had a different Phantom until it was too late. Scott's voice was back to normal for "Music..."
