Rookie Phantom You ever observed how babies/little children react when they want something and don’t get it? They’re quite aggressive to the level of being to destroy or even kill to be honest. That’s why we adults are there to comfort and teach them what’s right and what’s not, what’s possible to do, what’s not to be done when living in a society, etc. But he has no one and has always been treated as a freak, a monster. At least Christine had her father to show her love for some years.

I hate how poor the deformity is but Gerard's voice suits the Phantom best, in my opinion. Ramin's is good (he's my third fav Phantom) but Gerard's just has way more depth and emotion to it. Take for example the line 'darkness deep as Hell'. Ramin sings that in a very nice way but Gerard just conveys such anger and hostility through it. And with no professional training beforehand, that's quite an achievement. Plus his voice is like liquid gold (particularly in the Music of the night and The Mirror scene).

As much as some people don't like this version or Gerard Butler's performance, I love it. He's my fave Phantom. Or 2nd fave. It's between him and Ramin. But I do kind of keep them separate. So I guess you can say, they're both my favorites. But anyway, this movie introduced me to the world of Phantom of the Opera. Of course, I've always heard of the stage musical but never was interested in it until I saw the commercials for this movie. I bought the book. Read that. Saw the movie and it sparked my love for all things Phantom of the Opera.

I know there's a loooooot of controversy around Gerard's acting and singing as the Phantom. But in my opinion, there's no comparing the play and the movie. The latter is made for a broader audience and portrays the Phantom in a more humane way, and I honestly think Gerry nailed it. His performance in Down once more is so deep. Maybe his singing is not what people who love the play before the movie expected, but I think he did good for a Hollywood production. His portray on the Phantom gave me a whole new perspective of the character and the story.

I first saw this musical when I was 12, and back then when the Phantom asks Christine "Why? Why?!", my first thought was he was asking why she would reveal his face to everyone like she did. But now watching this 10 years later, I realize he's following up the previous lyrics, which makes me even more sad... "No kind words from anyone, no compassion anywhere, Christine...Why? Why?!"

I don't know if he could handle it. How many times are Broadway performers voices put through the wringer on a weekly basis? Plus acting in front of a camera is vastly different than on stage, when you're trying to react so the person in the last row can understand your reactions (i.e. way over emphasized).

Sian Lewis I'm sure she did love him, but she also loved Raoul, and given the choice between a cocky viscount and a psychotic murderer... yeah, her choice makes sense imo
@rebekahwhitcomb23966 жыл бұрын
There is more to this than just the kissing. I know/understand the pitty towards the Phantom, because he was treated terribly as a circus act, and people made him feel insecure. The Phantom was treated as though he was tortured and scorned by people. He had to learn a lot of everything in life on his own such as talking, dressing, fashion, style, learning how to communicate/respect others around him, and etc. The unfortunate part of him was his anger, dangerous, and abusive side. The Phantom then turned how he was treated, towards other people that had no means to hurt him (not that he knew). He needed to be shown what love was, but Christine made the right choice. She had to show the Phantom what truly exists in him, and not on his face. Being in an abusive/dangerous relationship is not something Christine needs to be with. Yes, Christine could have shown so much to him about love, life, and realizing that life is not about how you look like on the outside... it is about how you are on the inside. Christine loved (I am sure) the Phantom, but not in a way that would work for the rest of her life. The Phantom did not truly love Christine until she showed him through the kiss and by letting her go. This is a lesson for real life situations. You have to decide what is actually love, and what is lust. Love and lust are two totally different things that will and will not work for the rest of their lives. Raoul is a good choice because through and through, he treated Christine the way a gentleman is supposed to treat a lady. The Phantom (at times) showed kindness, gentleness, and care. But the way he would treat her when he was angry... that is not how a man touches/treats a woman. A man should NEVER lay a finger on a woman like that. If a man truly loves a woman, he will not touch a woman out of anger, he will protect her, he will guard her, he will care for her, he will be gentle, and the list goes on.

+Celebsengaielek Celebsengaiel He's my favorite too @ejubel! Don't hate one phantom just because his voice was a little more rocky than the others. He's supposed to have a little more emotion in his voice than in Broadway. He can explain his pain through his voice in the movie because he doesn't have to sing as loud as he can to please more than 250+ people in the same room.
