Phase 6 Sport on the slope.

Slope soaring is still one of my favourite aspect of RC flying. Nothing compares with how relaxing it can be. Back in the 80's I would launch knowing the transmitter battery in my Kraft lasted about five hours. I would land around 4 hours 40 minutes later. What a great time.

i agree. started in the late 70's we used to get people coming up and asking " does it go where you point the ariel" or " i can't see the wires" now adays i carry a Dave Hughes Soarceror converted to flaperons around in the boot... just in case.

I already have my 1 place Tant, my thermos and my 'as new' Sanwa Exellence série Radio that I got as gift for my 15 birthday..... in 1982😊 I beleive John will be Nice enough to lend me one of is Debut Saiplane (an Olympic 650 or a Wanderer will do the job) 😉😚

Must be amazing lift on those cliffs. The Phase 6 is a great model for sure but on the hills here very rarely can you chuck one around like that, unless the wind is howling.

Marvelous. The standard go-to model for years. I built four and crashed all of them: 3 sport and 1 symmetrical. The shear plate setup for the wing worked well but the tailplane was prone to catching tufts of heather and breaking the the rear of the fuselage off right in front of the fin (always sit over the wing on an airliner?). For practical reasons I always moved the tailplane partway up the fin on O/Ds for that reason. Another similar model at the time was the Flair Heron. Didn't sell as well as the Sunrise though. Does anyone remember the old pennine BATS crowd from the 80s and 90s?

My dad had a Flair Heron when I was growing up. It was a bit overweight and never flew that well.

@@SlopeRCGliders Yes, I only knew one flyer who had one. Can't remember what he thought of it. I had some fancy looking thing called a Sitar for a short period but that met a large boulder that appeared out of nowhere. Nothing to do with my rubbish flying after a couple of pints in the Highwayman lunchtime.

I still have the fuselage of my old one and a complete kit ready to go on the building board. It's not a proper plans-built Phase 5 (ignore the recent RTF approximation) but it's a VERY good glider

Yes indeed it is. And it's still available as a kit in Sport (semi-symmetrical wing) and Professional (fully symmetrical wing for very strong lift days!) versions. If you enjoyed building your Phase 2, why not get a Phase 5 plan from Chris Foss? It's considered by many to be a better flyer than the Phase 6 and is very much a builder's model.

I'd be too nervous to fly a plane I fly to helicopters but the planes I've never had good experience with kind of like a paper plane they never last but that is a nice plane you got I do enjoy watching them fly I'll tell you that much maybe one day I'll pick up another plane and give it another shot LOL
