PhD defense ceremony

On March 5th 2020 I defended my PhD thesis titled 'Things, Events and Mind' at the Open University in Heerlen.
"Do we have minds, or are we just sacks of atoms? This rather wry question illustrates the apparent clash between the different lenses through which the various sciences view the world. A vivid demonstration of this tension is the causal exclusion problem in philosophy of mind. This fundamental problem prompts worries about the autonomy of psychology as a field of science, and threatens to undermine our self-understanding as minded beings. In this thesis the causal exclusion problem is confronted head-on and dissolved. Things, Events and Mind describes a theory of causation which legitimizes our various perspectives upon the world, by offering a framework for interpreting causal relations in interdisciplinary contexts."

My boyfriend after submitting his thesis defense presentation, looked around for questions and I without any knowledge of the subject just barraged him with question after question and he was fuming at me the whole time…whereas our friends thought that it was fixed between us to create a sort of I ask easy question and you impress the panel with the answer but nothing happened ! Judge panel were looking at me and his professor never mind…. still laugh at my own stupidity! He graduated though
