Pheasant Tail Emerger Parachute is one of the best dry flies i have ever used. There wasn't a day that this fly didn't produce. If i used it of course. I believe its because its low riding fly, imitating transitioning insect, which is an easy meal.....
I suggest you, if you haven't already, try this fly, make it in few sizes and use it without looking whats catching, just change sizes...
Keep safe and tight lines
Vladimir

Pure pleasure to watch! I will make up a few and probably demonstrate the tie at our anglers club next week so there will be numerous versions of your masterful tie. Kindest thoughts from NZ.

@tc i prefer superglue.... Makes the fly way more durable. Take a look at my video about tying klinkhåmer, i told a story behind it.... Not mine story, Hans' story, he is the author. He has another way to secure his parachute hackle.

I Really like seeing your "out takes" the mistakes! your flies are often times SO perfect and looks SO easy to do, but only because your skill level is so hight and, like me you have a sense of OCD about making sure that everything looks great and perfect! When I go fishing if I see 2 flies in my box, one tied well and the other tied sloppy, I will fish the one tied well every time, and only fish the sloppy one if I lose the perfect one. I believe that most of the time the fish do not care, but I do, and I fish them differently when I have tied them well! THank you for all you do! if you havent done so, will you tie a simple sow bug? or something that could be considered a sow bug? THANK YOU AGAIN!

Thanks so much. I honestly don't remember what mistake ibmade here, i will have to rewatch it. I agree 100% with what you said. I would do the same. I do fish ugly flies.... Ines that are tied night before fishing. Thats kind of my tradition. 😂😂 I never fished or made any sow bugs.... Not sure we have those in serbia. I will do a research and se what i can come up with. 🍺😀

Vladimir, I want to tie some of these dries in a couple of sizes as you recommend, but I could not figure out what the tail material is! Can you please let me know what you are using for the tail material? Thank you! I enjoy your videos and learn something from each of them! ed

Thank you so much. Tail(trailing shuck) is antron in rust color. Its always rust for me, no matter the insect. In any video you see with same shuck i will probably explain it. Cheers 🍻🍻

It is a refreshment. I am tired of shutlecock style and i belive the fish are too. Besides hard to find good quality cdc theese days anyway. Oh and for the next trick you could do paraloop style. It is something genius and refreshing about it i cant describe....
@Oholisfliesandfishing
@Oholisfliesandfishing 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😀😀😀 I think i am lucky... I get good CDC quite easily... Usually from hunters... Or even from people i know that have ducks... Goooooooood stuff... I will do paraloop.... But probably not with rooster hackle.. Its just that i started to tie it long time ago, when genetic hackle was way too expensive for me.... And i realised i would use more of it for the paraloop..... So i stopped using this technique... But iys super cool with some furs and other feathers.... Thanks for reminding me.... I will make some longer video with pros and cons.... 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you for your support and kind words. Wing/parachute post is polypropylene, this one is from hareline and they call it "para post wing"... But, any polypropylene will do. Cheers 🍺🍺

Now that I tied a bunch of your Perdigons ( getting good at them ), I'll be tying this one next. I don't have the Ahrex FW510, so I'll be using something that might also work ( Orientsun 7259 ). By the way there's a barbless version of the hook you used: Ahrex FW511. Regarding the dubbing you used for the thorax, do you think a darker thorax may also work? If I understood you correctly, you used squirrel mixed with purple and pink UV Ice Dub. It appeared rather light colored in the the video. Thanks for posting.

This is amazing dry... You will love it. Thorax can be even hot spot. Darker will work for sure... Yes.... Squirrel, uv pink and UV purple are mixed together with cdc.. I have a video on it...Squirrel dubbing mix Cheers 😀🍺

@@Oholisfliesandfishing Thanks much for the quick reply Vladimir and for the pointer to your other video. I just got my squirrel skin in, so I'll be busy... Regarding this fly, I was also thinking that using light yellow for a thorax may also work for PMD emergers. Any thoughts on that?

Glad I'm not the only one. Respect for the honesty. One small observation. Is the parachute maybe a little large on this one? You mention trimming the post further by the river also which with this particular fly would arguably make sense. The fly is very nice, by the way and who wouldn't use it? I just wondered if you had a particular reason for extending the parachute beyond the body. With smaller flies I try for something a little trimmer. I love your work - particularly the sensible and practical approach to robustness. Flies take effort to make - let's make them last. Thank you
@Oholisfliesandfishing
@Oholisfliesandfishing 3 жыл бұрын
It is large if you compare it to the most tiers. I was influenced by Hans Van Klinkens way of doing it. Hackle is there is to support the fly, stiffer and wider profile can hold more. And this hook is rather thick for a dry fly hook As for the post.... I found myself not to trim them ever on the water. As long as it doesnt flip the fly over i like it. I am ok with too big or too long as long as it serves the purpose. Thank you so much for your comments with so much sense. I appreciate it. Comments can help people understand something i may not have said. Cheers Vladimir

Great fly tying demo. Congratulations. However, many of us would appreciate it if you were more explicit in clarifying the type of materials used in the different parts of the fly and, above all, its most basic characteristics such as colors, sizes (hooks), threads, feathers, etc., etc. I am an arduous follower of yours but sometimes you are a bit "stingy" in revealing the details of the material. Thanks and congratulations again. I will continue to attend your masterful demonstrations.
@Oholisfliesandfishing
@Oholisfliesandfishing 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you my friend. I am not stingy, the point is that people should use what they have. I can make olive fly, but whats the point in making olive fly if you have mostly yellow insects? When i started my tying, i realised that i cant find most materials needed for flies published in magazines or books... So i just used some other materials... That habit stayed up until today. I can write or say the whole list of materials but there is no point in that.... If u buy all i say.... You will end up with more stuff than you really need 😀😀😀(which i usually do.... I think in this one i failed to mention only colour of antron.... Its rusty orange. Post is light gray....🙏

What color is antron ?
@Oholisfliesandfishing
@Oholisfliesandfishing 4 жыл бұрын
I always use this orange rusty. Most insects have chitin of the same colour more or less. So there's no need to have different colours of trailing shucks
Don't do this!!!
