I don't know why the writers didn't just make it, like, a mining town. He could be like "I hate Christmas cuz it means the workers get days off". It would have solved a lot of major logic issues.
@nickmanzo84594 жыл бұрын
Cal if they did that, the movie might have been watchable, and apparently they intended this to be painful.
@ZC-Infinity4 жыл бұрын
Well, technically, wouldn't that still hold true in a factory town? He just never gives days off, including Christmas and other holidays?

"Why was it ok for 25 years before this Christmas?" well you see Phelan the Elder gods knew that if all holidays merged with each other it would cause the destruction of the multiverse so they created the rules of Holiday combat that states that if someone suppresses a holiday for 25 years they can merge the holiday with theirs. The Angel is in fact the Protector God of Christmas Realm.

If ya want to rewrite this thing into something worth while (albeit sappy) make it that the villain hates Christmas because his daughter died years ago during Christmas and hates how others were happy while he lost everything. Then at the end the angel is revealed to actually be his daughter come back to make him stop forcing anti-Christmas on people and move on from his grief.
@StarSnowGhost5 жыл бұрын
You can set the story around the end of world war II when people were super patriotic and overzealous about Christmas but where they have to work really hard on artilary for the war and keeping them from celebrating it. I guess what I'm saying is - if you could rewrite this story about finding love and hope in a time of dire situations or such it would be really sweet.
@ripleyjlawman.31624 жыл бұрын
I would watch that take on this movie.
@Zycyzyx4 жыл бұрын
What's even more frustrating about these is that it wouldn't be difficult (or runtime consuming) at all to give these characters actual motivations, they just do pointlessly villainous things because "dumb kids movie." Possibilities: - doesn't want to give workers another off day - sees the celebrations as wasteful or unproductive - had some personal/family tragedy happen on christmas - seeing families happily celebrate fills him with resentment at his own lonely childhood Even more blatantly 'evil' options like just wanting to crush his worker's spirits so they stay in line would be SOMETHING, although the Scrooge style character 180 would be difficult in that case. He'd probably just have to fall into a vat of his own boiling green goo at the end.
@NODNS_n_M.ORD116302 жыл бұрын
All of those possibilities were the reason for Scrooge to hate Christmas. All of them.

Have you seen Goodtimes' actual adaptation of A Christmas Carol? That's one of their most bizarre adaptations and that's saying a lot. Highlights of that include: -The Ghost of Christmas Past flying backwards briefly and making Scrooge surf on snow. -The Ghost of Christmas Present turning Scrooge's living room into a beautiful garden with a waterfall (insert Old Man joke here). -The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come looking like some sort of wizard with green skin and pointed elf shoes. -Jacob Marley having godlike powers not unlike The Christmas Tree's Santa (when the Ghost of Christmas Present beckons Scrooge to join him, Scrooge wonders aloud if Marley was right about the Ghosts being helpful and then Scrooge's bedroom is filled with a giant lightning bolt, to which Scrooge responds, 'Marley never liked being doubted' or something like that.

Master Markus the short "o" sound works too, especially since it isn't followed immediately by a consonant and another vowel. It is interesting and a bit funny that a lot of Ontarians, especially, seem to say it with the long "o", but I noticed some Minnesotans, for example, say it similarly. My Anglo phone family members in Quebec almost pronounce it the same too. It's just a bit of gentle ribbing. We say so many funny and weird things on this side of the border of course.

At least that one SORT of made sense in that he really cared for her and when presented with the idea that he was a good and worthwhile person, something he likely didn't believe himself, his heart was warmed to the extent that he wanted to meet that expectation (albeit in a dinky poorly established way). While in this the visage of an angel touched his heart so much that the personality switch in his brain was flipped to "good"

I was so glad you pointed out the fact literally every cartoon that happens in forests have wolves randomly showing up to eat people even tho that's unlikely in real life. Seriously, there is ALWAYS random wolves or bears attacking for no reason in every cartoon. And they always kind of... just... show up. It's actually much more likely to be attacked by a deer or a boar but i guess we can't possibly teach kids that adult Bambi IS in fact a very dangerous wild animal. Duh. Deer good. Wolf bad. I can fix a bit of this story in a way that makes the talking wolfred NOT pointless. The christmas patrol finds the kids bringing the tree to town. Outraged, santa man cuts the rope, which provokes Wolfred to attack by biting his arm. In defense, santa man stabs Wolfred in the chest, killing him. all of the kids are upset, and Angela cries. they bring Wolfred back to town to have a funeral (for some reason AFTER the whole tree thing because we still need dumb logic), where they're confronted because of the tree. Angela reveals that she cannot make Wolfred come back to life, but that single patch of falling snow begins snowing on Wolfred to Angela's surprise, which brings him back.

More animated films should have talking wolves. They just add so much value to anything that features them. That is why Storks is the best animated film of 2016.

Ok so, why do most villains in animated Christmas movies always try to cancel the most money making holiday in the world? I mean it just doesn't make sense
@fritzy83183 жыл бұрын
Because writers are too stupid to think of having them still be greedy about making money off the holiday and having the moral be about spending time with your family and the gift of giving type shit.
@Tareltonlives Жыл бұрын
Because Scrooge existed and they're too stupid to pick up on Scrooge's reasons to hate Christmas, namely days off, having to spend time with family, and being obligated to do things for other people

This seems to have some similarities to The Legend of Frosty. A Christmas related thing shows up to a town with a strict leadership and shows its residents the meaning of Christmas. Don’t know if this ripped off The Legend of Frosty or vice versa, but it’s at least a weird coincidence.

That's actually not an uncommon formula for story writing. Basically "Things sucked in this town until we had a magical/unusual visitor and now we learned stuff and things are better" The holiday is incidental. you take that formula and plug in the who, how and why's and you can get a great story like 'the music man' or you do it lazy and tack on christmas loosely tie it together and you get this movie or frosty 2 eclectic igloo. A more general version of this trope is "A stranger comes to town" which applies to malevolent characters too a la the pied piper. Using the trope isn't whats lazy mind you, its lazy cause they put little to no thought into it.

I actually searched for this film 2 years ago because I grew up on it as grandad got me this. I found the film on KZbin and in the related recommendation section on the right I found your review video on it and that's how I discovered your channel! I'm so glad I did. Anyway, my theory on why this Mr scrooge burns thinks Christmas is bad for business is that all his workers would want the day off or 3 days off. That would be bad for business I guess. I mean I don't think people would want to buy these flanges as Christmas gifts so it wouldn't be more profitable at Christmas time.

It seems as if it was written by someone who didn't understand how real human personalities or decision-making work. Hence characters completely changing their minds at the drop of a hat because someone else did something slightly Christmassy in front of them. It also kinda smacks of the certain type of Christian who goes "Omg Christmas is being oppressed because of eeeeevil people, we need to save it and remind everyone it exists and nobody can really be happy without it!" because society just no longer forces everyone to celebrate it, or their version of it. 🙄

@DonaldRilea6 жыл бұрын
It happened, whether you think it made sense or not. Look up the Pinkerton Detective Agency, the Ludlow Massacre, or the River Rouge Strike of 1937 on Wikipedia if you like for some examples of such police being used in action, often along with local police forces and US National Guard units, to investigate, block, or suppress union organising and strikes on behalf mining companies, Ford Motors, and other companies, who didn't want to have to deal with their workers, and give them higher pay and better working conditions. The bosses at those companies and many others felt that it was their companies and their rights to hire and fire at will, pay their workers whatever they wanted, and treat them however they wanted, and that was that in their minds. It was about power and who was gonna have it and keep it, and who wasn't.
