He wrote this song about catching his wife cheating on him with another man and going through a divorce. Listen to the song again in that context and it will make sense. Phil Collins considers himself a drummer first and a singer second. He's amazing! This is real music!

Phil came to everyone's attention as the drummer for the group Genesis. After the original lead singer left, he also became the lead singer for the band. He then had a great career as a solo artist. He does have a very powerful voice and was strong enough to sing while playing. Phil no longer performs on stage, mainly because of his health. He feels that he is no longer strong enough to sing and play the drums anymore. So instead of disappointing his fans, and wearing himself out on stage and giving his fans a subpar performance, he retired from performing. Great reaction to a fabulous song.

If there was ever a performance that can be called 'mesmerizing', this is it. Keep in mind that singing and playing the drums is extremely difficult, more than other instruments. The physical movement of drumming throws your voice off, and then you have 5 different rhythums you're keeping track of in your head (2 feet, two hands, and the melody)
@ohauss
@ohauss Жыл бұрын
Singing and SITTING is already difficult, because you're constraining your lungs and your diaphragm, but then playing the drums on top needs a lot of energy as well, and hence, air, so makes it that much harder.

@@ohauss You would think it would be hard, but it's not really. I've been singing solos at my church for over twenty years and sometimes I play piano while I'm singing. Now, singing and playing drums at the same time is a different story. I guess that's why there's not many singers who also play drums and I have nothing but respect for anybody who can do it.

This is a great live version! Phil Collins is best known as the drummer/singer of the rock band Genesis in the 70's & for his solo career. He has had so many great hits such as "Another Day In Paradise", "I Don't Care Anymore", "Against All Odds", "One More Night", "Sussudio", "Take Me Home", "Two Hearts", "A Groovy Kind Of Love", "I Wish It Would Rain Down", "You Can't Hurry Love" etc.

My mind instantly pictures me as a 16 year old driving 100mph on a freeway near my house in pitch black (the atmosphere was unreal) with this song cranked to 11. Oh Man, there will never be another Phil Collins!! As some have said, he was the drummer for Genesis when Peter Gabriel was lead singer. Then when he went solo Phil took over the lead vocals and the rest is history. Peter leaving the band was a huge favour to all of us because I dread go think what the world would be like if Phil didn't have the chance to shine. When the drums hit in this song its breathtaking, the power of his drum skills and vocals are a match made in Heaven!

Thanks for reacting to this song! While I've known for a long time what this song's about, I quite enjoy the fact that I still like to attach something far more sinister to it. For me, it's almost a mea culpa, an admission of having killed someone who's done him some serious wrong, and the lyrics are what Phil's saying to that person before he does the deed.

He really has no idea what this song is about. There have been many urban legends and rumors made up about the meaning. But, in his words he had just broke up with his wife. He was alone in his home feeling low, and it came to him. Needless to say, his ex - wife hates this song. LOL. Collins has been plagued by a number of health issues over the last 10 years, beginning with an injured vertebrae in his upper neck in 2009. He sustained the injury while he was performing and it left him with crippling nerve damage in his hands. He underwent surgery to repair the vertebrae, but he lost feeling in his fingers and could only grip drumsticks if they were taped to his hands. The injury soon left him unable to continue playing the drums that made him a star.

He started out I do believe with a band called Genesis, I was blast when I was younger to see them at winter land in San Francisco He was the drummer. He does a lot of composing, and he is an all-around performer and artist. He’s a very high tech kind of a guy, and he originally is a Drummer, and then he broke away from the band Genesis on his own, but he will be highly missed when it comes down to his performances. This was his farewell tour of performing in front of large audiences on the song itself if you re-search it out because a lot of people have their own interpretations, but it was about his divorce and once you understand that then you can understand why the intensity and the emotions that you might feel throughout this performance just an FYI glad that you enjoyed the concert🤠

Kudos for your comment, Chris, about being able to play drums and sing is spot on! Phil Collins was the drummer for Genesis back when Peter Gabriel was singing lead vocals. When Gabriel decided to leave and the band needed a lead singer Collins said "I can do both" and stepped in and proved it. He went on to a brilliant solo career. This song proves he can sing and play drums at the same time with nary a hitch in the voice.

Phil Collins has been a staple of my musical journey since the early 80s and everyone has heard this one if you’re a youngin you heard it in the Hangover movie. If you’re old like me you heard it when it came out and heard it on Miami Vice. I actually got to see Phil on this very tour in 2004 in Oklahoma City Oklahoma and it wa truly a bucket list show I’ve dreamed about since I was a kid. It has the most recognizable drum drop in existence.

You two take care and enjoy this wonderful & classic song and great video......... I am surprised at how good the boom mike Phil is using. Thanks to you both.... Is he focused or what??? Girl this is your channel, so pause when you like.. Do not pay attention to the Negative Nellies out there! You both know they are out there... They should start their channel... I am surprised you did not play your air-drums..... Thank you two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was that great or what???

I have thoroughly enjoyed your channel for a while now, but I loved your reaction to this video in particular! This, (live) video, is easily in the top 3 of live performances I've ever seen! Great job!

LMAO It never fails. I have seen a lot of reactors do this song, and as soon as Phil hits the drums, everyone started bobbing their heads. I do it too. I think everyone does when they see this version. Great reaction as always, Ladies. Keep 'em coming.
