Wow, fantastic power man. 435w for 29 minutes! Only a select club will ever come close to those numbers . Chapeau! Besides.. your time is less than a minute from beating the KOM AND your riding it solo. Thats amazing in it's own right! Thanks for the video.

I lived in Santa Barbara from '90 till '02ish and was literally addicted to this ride for a 5-6 year period. My 'thing' was climbing and there was nothing better climb to train on. I never concerned myself with time that much but I do know that I hovered around 50 minutes on a good day. Seeing these dudes cruise up at 12-15 mph is amazing, hard to comprehend sustained wattage like that.

As you may know, Atlanta has opossums. When I was a kid growing up there I saw plenty alive, and plenty dead on the roads. Phil might have seen a few flat ones on his rides around Tucker. Unfortunately, in GA being country doesn't always mean you're a wiz at some of the intricacies of biology. There were many country boys who thought opossums were rodents.

@@Deanhess1129 I've done it in my 20s, several times a week. I was obsessed with getting weekly elevation gain and living in SF, it was the easiest way to rack up 15-20k ft of elevation a week. Now 31 old me could never.

it's still 435w in 29min. When Froomey did the lab test, he did 419watts in 20-40min. My guess is Froomey went into the lab test well rested too. Phil weights ~66kg based on online source, while froomey was at 67kg for tours. Tom Dumoulin's stage 10 TT at the giro was 410w average (of course, that doesn't factor in positioning efficiency between the two rider). The only 2 reason I can think of or see why Phil isn't racing anymore is likely due to "recovery speed". Some people can just go on days after days and see very little drop off in performance compared to their peak. Still, if it's a 1 day race, these numbers Phil put up is very impressive and respectable. The other being, and likely the main reason, is just that Phil had his fill of pro racing lol. It probably gets to you suffering day in and day out + being away from home.

Wish you would make a video about motivation and trainng for heavily overweight people. I'm 300lb but love to ride. Unfortunately I'm not good enoigh to ride In a group and it just plain sucks at this point.. Seems like all these cycling channels forget about the overweight guys who want to challenge themself to get to meet certain goals like lose weight and ride In a group. My challenge to you is be a coach tip all skill and weight levels.

A gallon is some archaic British measure of volume, which even the British don't use much any more. 1 gallon is 4.55 litres. A kilogramme is 2.2 pounds. So water is actually 10.01 lbs per gallon. But wait, the US and UK don't even agree on the gallon. A gallon is smaller in the USA than in the UK. Russell Bainbridge is using the US version of the gallon, so he gets 8.41 lbs/gallon (which still seems off, I get 8.33 lbs/gallon for the standard 1 kg/l density of water).

It's not that unlikely. I live near that road and know multiple people that have been struck by cars on it. Perhaps you overestimate the ability of american drivers but it's idiotic to ride without something like a helmet in the name of Strava KOMs.
