Try to hit Alpe D'Huez? KOM is by Peter Pouly, who is now an amateur ambassador for cycling in Thailand, who is also a former pro, busted for EPO back in the days. So most likely, the KOM on Alpe D'Huez, is also on EPO
@istegalkarl7 жыл бұрын
Asolutely. Pouly has lots of KOMs. He is now competing and winning events like the Haute Route, where there is no doping control at all.

Love this stuff. Cool to see how you and your coach breakdown and discuss a plan for the next attack. Great effort on Flagstaff! Remember Graeme Obree missing the hour record one day in 1993 then coming back the next day to claim it. That was a true amateur hour that paid off.
@saltydog91177 жыл бұрын
Great episode. In addition to the drugs issue, weren't some of these records set by guys that were drafting up portions of the climb?
@TheJoePavlik7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I remember another episode where he couldnt get the time because parts of the route flattened out and there was drafting when the record was set.
@kmac7207 жыл бұрын
It's 14.7mph average, but this climb is flat, up, flat, up. So it might be 20mph+ on the flat sections and 10mph on the steep parts. (Just guessing, but that was based on their description of it.)
@radhaksr6 жыл бұрын
I think you need to mention that you ride on the right side of the road unlike any records you are going after that was created as part of a race where the riders would use the apex of the road. That should easily account for the 20 odd seconds depending on the number of corners.

Wow over 500 Watts for over 2 Minutes and then go on riding. There i can see the difference between a pro and a hobby cyclist like me. I was able this year to push 608 Watt for 1 minute 12 sec. and 495 Watts fo 1 minute 47 sec. But then i stoped cycling for 10 minutes. And i guess i am 10 kilogramm heavier. your power is impressive!!!!!

Have you ever thought about riding a fixed gear? I mean if the climb is relatively steady? You could do the math to select the right gear ratio... plus you would save that little more weight aswell as it being a tiny bit more efficient.

You need to wear lower socks Phil. Less weight, and lowers rotational weight.
@Naturalhighz7 жыл бұрын
fabric has way less friction compared to the skin. having as high socks as possible or a full body skinsuit would be considerably more aero. Only reason pro riders don't use higher socks is because the rules state that socks may not go higher than halfway up to the knee.

A climbers weight saving trick...you can use smaller front rings (48/32 or 46/30 which weigh less) since you don't need top speed, which will then allow you to use a cassette with smaller cogs (also less weight, i.e. 11-25 instead of 11-28) and get the same or smaller lowest gear inches.

Phil, don't intend to be rude whatsoever, but at 9:44 your neck looks like it may have basal cell carcinoma. i would have a doc take a look at it if you haven't already. could be just a mole or a cut or something, but sun exposure with cyclists is obvi something to keep an eye on.
