On this episode of the Phil in the Blanks podcast, Dr. Phil interviews Pastor James Ward Jr., author of “Zero Victim: Overcoming Injustice with a New Attitude,” who says that, in today’s culture, people tend to over-emphasize the need to protect their identities and to present themselves as victims, even if an alleged offense was minor or only imagined. Tune in to find out what he says we need to do to get out of the victimhood mindset!

This is 100% right. People are getting weaker and undisciplined emotional thinking is out of control in this country. We reward weakness as though God has not imbued in every human incalculable strength!

I don't think a person can get to a zero victim mindset without being indwelt with the Holy Spirit. It is only when we recognize our own sinfulness and need for mercy, grace and forgiveness, that we are able to see the same need in others.

Why would the victim want to change because it's beneficial. The supposed victim plays on human compassion and always gets what it wants.

A victim mentality can ruin your life. It is very difficult to not have when you culturally and historically come from an oppressed group. As far as colleges go, where is that line between bigotry and hate speech versus a legitimate political discourse and debate?

I'm African American and it's a choice to have or not to have a victim mentality. It's not hard not too, but unfortunately, alot of our families, the media and the government fed us this "you're a poor victim so very little is expected of you," line for so long and too many of us live it like it's oxygen. I don't deal with people regardless of background who wear the proud badge of victimhood wherever they go. If you've noticed, successful people don't buy into this because successful people know that life is a serious of choices and in order to live the life you want, you are obligated to take responsibility for the choices you make. As for colleges and other arenas where adults interact, grow up and stop taking offense to every little damn thing. Snowflakes melt when the temperature warms and this is exactly the problem today. Put a little heat under one and they go bezerk.

I would say so long as you are talking about policies and not doing things like name calling. Debates are respectful and do not include character attacks. Debates talk about ideas, facts, and policies surrounding a topic. Hate speech would be derogatory names and cussing, things like that. It is not hateful to have a differing opinion if it is explained without verbal abuse or threats of harm. The more ideas and thoughts we are able to hear the freer we are (even if we so do not agree with others at times).

Yeah! He did the most for all communities than any other president ever has. His policies and actions don’t get enough attention and it’s so sad that so many people don’t care to fact check things. We allow ourselves to be gullible and not take the initiative to see if what’s being repeated is true or not. I base my opinion on actions and not words. We see trump going through hell to fight for us instead of not caring and living a luxurious life with no worries like the rest of the wealthy and celebrities. I admire him for not giving up on us like everyone we have supported and invested in for them to get to live the celebrity life. I hope more people start to wake up and see that.

Why did doctor Phil have to bring politics into this and take a demeaning swipe at conservative voters? I don't think 1 in 10,000 people voted for Trump for the reason he said that Trump won.

He’s discussing an article that appeared in the Wall Street Journal, a publication once widely respected until Rupert Murdock purchased it and turned it into the National Enquirer of business enterprise instead of a news source of integrity. IMO, Phil used a very good example of how polarization is used to divide and conquer to achieve one’s own personal goals by leveraging people’s resentments (real or imagined) and we are living with the results. *He used the article as an example we can all acknowledge as Americans.* If we refuse to acknowledge Reality, it doesn’t change reality, it reflects our own ignorance.
