Why are dirt jumpers so expensive if there “dead simple” it’s just a mtb with no gearing right?
@nakitojimo20016 жыл бұрын
The quality of the components. They are built to abuse properly.

like a bmx also, you could throw it off a building and be able to ride away with it
@foonigan35713 жыл бұрын
They are built solid: If you r to eat crap you couold still ride away cuz they are like really hard to break. i agree tho they should be cheaper when you think about what actually goes into them

Check if your rear fork ends are parallel when the wheel is tightened. I use an old axle without a wheel, tighten it until the plates are parallel using a vernier calliper to measure either side of the axle. Then make sure your wheel is spaced to match. Works every time.
@markarnold15508 жыл бұрын
thanks for the tip about making a spacer for the dropout. I have the same problem with my dropout being too short to run a standard tensioner, and have been looking for a solution. using a snail cam would be great too ( mentioned in another comment) but I think you need a derailleur hanger. also, I'm at the wheel mill now thanks to your recent vid... I appreciate all the info !

@bennik36077 жыл бұрын
Skills With Phil First of all, great to see you answering comments that fast! And yeah, of course you can't expect a dirt jumper to work on trails but I guess the topic could be an idea for an upcoming video if you're searching for one. You could make a short educational and fun second part of your bike geometry video and explain which factors like frame geometry and bike spec play a role in mountain biking and use the dirt jumper on trails as an example why the bike works in a certain area but sucks at different disciplines. But that's just an idea but a thing I'd really like to see.. greetings from Germany and keep those great vids coming!

@TechnocraticBushman8 жыл бұрын
Hey Phil, I'm not really sure since I never had a dirt jumper but perhaps you can use snail cams for tensioning the chain. They're used in trials bikes, are light and very precise. And when the chain wears out a bit (not enough to require replacement), you can easily readjust. www.tartybikes.co.uk/snail_cams/c114.html
@SkillsWithPhil8 жыл бұрын
This is actually something that I've never seen before, which is saying something. I was watching this video, and I'm surprised this isn't something that I've seen on a mountain bike before (seems almost trial specific), it's simplicity is genius. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. With that said, I don't know if I can use these on my bike, but I'll look into it.
@TechnocraticBushman8 жыл бұрын
Skills With Phil You can literally run your channel on bike technology for ages! As a suggestion, you could do a video on bike types so that people know what to buy, what to look for. Bikes, especially mountain bikes have evolved the most I think over the last few years. Wheel sizes, geometries, wacky suspension jargon, tons of aluminum alloys, modern carbon fiber, xc, cx, dh and everything in between. There are more BB types I think than there are bike brands. I won't even go into wheel sizes and tires. A newbie would be completely clueless. 26' trial bikes are called _stock_ cause you'd adapt a regular one. There's literally almost nothing stock on them anymore. Only tubes, tires and spokes I think you can still buy from a regular bike shop.
@tillllit5108 жыл бұрын
Some trials riders even make there own diy chain tensioners. Just grap a peace of steel wire, bend it in the right shape and fix it to your chainstay with some zip ties. There you go! Propably the cheepest you can get away whit, but it gets the job done quite well! Its also super easy to replace if its gets damaged.

@SkillsWithPhil8 жыл бұрын
+Mauro no ☺️, what ever bike you are most comfortable with. I can manual better on my trail bike because I am more used the balance point on that bike. My dirt jumper requires less effort to get into a manual, however I tend to loop out a bit more since I'm not quite as used to that bikes balance point.

+Regular Guy Mountain Biking at the time I built it 650b was just starting to grow in popularity. But honestly there's no good reason for dirt jumpers to be 650b, the added diameter makes things more cumbersome which defeats their purpose. I'm honestly not sure if many companies are even making 650b dirt jumpers (I personally have not seen one). The only application where I could see it partially making sense is slalom racing.
@GTChucker868 жыл бұрын
650b on a dirt jumper is pointless. What do you mean upgrade? There is no such thing as a 650b or 29er dirt jumper

I have a YT Jeffsy (which I love) and a Specialized Rockhopper (to ride with the kids and the trail gator) both 29ers. Jeffsy is L size and Rockhopper is XL (I'm 6.14 foot) and I'm stucked with manuals, and I was considerind to get one dirt jump bike to learn more technique ( i see bmx bikes too small for my high and i can use the dirt to go to work). Probably a used 300€ bike. Do you think I should go for it or a 24" trial bike which is another option?

im no professional but are his forks on backwards?
@SkillsWithPhil7 жыл бұрын
+I_like_goats Manitou is known for putting the arch on the backside of their fork and for the this reason it appears backwards. The best way to tell that it's on correctly is if you look at where the wheel attaches to the fork, it's slightly forward of the rest of the fork and that's the case on all forks.
