This makes no sense. Mayo is not teaching, the team is not game planning, and the players are running the asylum. Guy just isn't a pro head coach, move on. Bad teams stay bad when they don't correct problems. This team is getting worse. Flush the staff, restock. This isn't based on the 'record' it is based on the extraordinarily bad leadership and management of the team. I have seen players disregard Mayo, watched him not pay attention to the clock, not make adjustments. Clearly Mayo is not an X's/O's coach, but he is also NOT game planning either. Just move on. Been watching Pats since the 80's...this reminds me of Rod Rust. At best, Mayo's 1 yr as a HC will be like ML Carr managing the Celtics, taking a hit for the Green. Loved Mayo the player, but am making a clear distinction between the all-pro player and a guy who has not been a coordinator or HC before suddenly being the HC of a pro team.

The first thing I noticed about Mayo was the "corporate speak." The same things I learned as a leader that did not work. I have no experience in coaching but I doubt you he can collaborate the way to a winning program. Football is a meritocracy.

Jerod is not the time manager that Bill was. When the score was 25-16 Jerod went for two points . If he succeeds he is within 8 points ( 1 possession) but if he fails it will take 2 possessions. If he goes for 1 his team eliminates the possibility of needing 2 possessions. He failed the 2 and so his decision hurt his team. At a basic level the coach has to have a mastery over time management. It is one of the most important contributions of a coach to the team.

Comparing the 2000 team to this team is apples to oranges. That 2000 team had pro-bowl talent and only had four losses of more that 7 points (including two losses by 8 points). You need to give a coaching staff and a front office a pass on the first year. Unless the team is completely unhinged (Jaguars in 2021 for example). They need a complete off-season after the first year to re-evaluate and improve. 1 year isn't enough. Some coaches/GMs get lucky and get a hit with year 1 but this isn't it. The team was left in rough shape at key positions like the offensive line and at QB and WR. Give them time to work with what they have and solve problems.

Nothing reeks of incompetence more than doubling down on a mistake. If it's EVERYONE ELSE'S fault, other than Mayo's, by that logic, everyone but Bill should have been brought back for this season.
