My late Father was a Master Sgt. and in the Army for 17 years. Every week when Bilko was on everything stopped in our apartment and my Dad would watch every minute until the end. He said he knew a number of people in the Army who were just like Bilko and he loved the program. I loved it too even though I was a young child and still love to re-watch it today.

Here in the UK, Bilko in the 1950s was a highlight of our Sunday afternoons after lunch. My Dad in particular loved it, having been in the war 1939 - 45 in the Army. Phil silvers was a master of comedy timing, the supporting characters were brilliant and who could forget the slovenly but equally endearing Doberman?! This is a superb upload, thank you, I enjoyed every minute.

You know what's going to happen every time, and every time it's hilarious. From the great days when we laughed out loud at comedy, instead of just smiling.

PHIL SILVERS WAS A COMIC GENIUS!When they made the remake movie of Sgt.Bilko with Steve Martin,I didn't even bother to go see it,as Phil Silvers is so strongly identified with the Sgt.Bilko role,I couldn't imagine anyone else playing the role!Paul Ford as Col.Hall was great,too!A true comedy classic from the early days of television!Gerry Whitehead,Bakesfield,California

For long time I was confused by this shows popularity. My Dad was by -the-book career army. Your typical hard-nosed grunt. But like so many of his generation, he enjoyed shows this show. So I finally asked him. His answer? Funny is funny. Thanks for uploading!

100% agree with you Jim. This is still one of the funniest shows ever created and Phil Silvers was a total genius along with so many others from his platoon. Seeing Steve Martin a very talented comedian fail so miserably just emphasises how brilliant the Bilko character and Phil Silvers are. Nat Hikens amazing writing contributed to a once in a lifetime piece of tv gold !

Nat Hiken was brilliantly funny. Beautifully cast, the wit and pacing of The Phil Silvers Show and his Car 54, Where are you? are mesmerizing and the very nucleus of laugh out loud. He knew how to write for talent. Impressively, especially for its time, Car 54 actually cast more than one person of color, appearing at the same time, in continuing roles. So sad that Mr. Hiken's health-problems prevented him from producing more comedy masterpieces.

+DD Burrows So did the phil silvers show, there's at least two black members of the platoon:p.jay sidney as private palmer,who bilko occasionally referred to as genius. and terry carter as private sugarman, or referred to occasionally by bilk as "sugie".and billie allen as one of colonem hall's secretaries.and briefly in the beginning of the second season there was sergeant birch played by actor frederick o'neal.
@josephcalderon9067 жыл бұрын
+DD Burrows And at the beginning of season three,a young godrey cambridge appears as a private in bilko's platoon. and in the middle of. that same season.a young james earl jones appears but with no spoken lines of dialogue.

Phil Silvers was quite remarkable as Sgt. Bilko. Everything about the Show was magical. I smile at the mere thought of watching an episode, and laugh constantly whilst watching one. Someone living near me also admires him, as his car number plate is ' B I L K O '.Oh how I envy him that 'plate.

Laugh tracks or canned laughter were never used.....seasons 1 & 2 were filmed in front of a live audience.....seasons 3 & 4 the finished filmed shows were shipped out to local army bases and shown to appreciative GI audiences...it was their laughter that was recorded..
