My thoughts exactly, the vote sounded like a good idea but there was just way too much toxicity about it for it to really be worthwhile, and it also just felt like we lost more than we gained from this (2 mob concepts shelved indefinitely in exchange for 1 isn't all too great)

i really wish they'd bring back the biome vote i think its better than the mob vote cuz less people would get upset and a lot of the mobs in the votes were imo rushed and just didn't belong in the game at this stage, whilst the biome vote adds more variety to the game

i think they intended it to be like "Heres 3 cool possibilities for the game, and with players input we can pick a direction to go in as well as learning what the players like the most!" but unfortunately people will fight and argue over silly block creatures so yknow

i'm honestly proud as hell of mojang for pullin that off, cuz i'm almost certain the reason we've had it for so long despite the problems is due to pressure from microsoft. the mob vote was a pretty cool marketing tactic for generating engagement which is essentially free advertising, and there's nothing disgustingly wealthy companies love more than not having to pay for stuff. it was a pretty sweet setup for a while, but with people becoming more critical of the way the game is developed over the years (which can get extreme sometimes, but i think the ability to criticize a product you consume is both Normal and Important) and popular members of the community sometimes influencing the vote, it eventually just generated hostility in the community and animosity towards the devs

people wouldn't be as mad if the losers got added later, but instead they're just permanently shelved and will be added "later" removing the choice and just adding a mob is a workable solution but it sucks that the input of the players on the game gets taken away

I feel with their new format they plan to have a way for the community to be involved but not in the same way with the mob vote which deleted two great options into the void. We shall have to wait and see

The blame falls on both the community and Mojang. The community was definitely toxic with these votes, but a lot of the divide was caused by Mojang's lack of transparency and poor communication with the community

I've never had my favorite win, glad that it's gone. They should always add all 3 and the vote should be in what order. Never understood why it was so limited, it's not hard to implement or anything.

Is the because the hard to implement all of them without ruining the development process they have to that moment, also they have to develop new technology (programming stuff) to be able to develop them, like the Crab Claw or the Glare mechanics…

For ages Philza has said the mob vote is stupid because it ends up just being a competition among youtubers who have the biggest fan base. Rather than generally individual's opinion and there's always really interesting ones and a boring mob and the boring mob usually wins like the sniffer is just a passive mobs that finds flower seeds???

I agree with a lot of the people here: It would've been a lot less toxic if they actually added the two losers as well, just later on. Wasn't that the idea to start with? Have the winner come out first, then implement the other two later on? I feel like there's also a lot more positive excitement when they just say they're adding a new mob, even if it is just one. Like, the bees? Everyone loved the bees! But there's a lot more dissatisfaction with the vote because "My favorite lost :("

I'm glad it got removed, the worst part was that the other 2 mobs that got thrown out were sometimes showcased with full sprites (I'm p sure the flower cows were, for example) which meant they were basically full creations already that had lots of work already done on them and they were just tossed out

Honestly I has hoped they adapted the mob vote to be an order of which creatures they want to see first. Like the one with most votes will be implemented first and the one with the least will be implemented later in the year. This is good enough too.

Tldr dont do mob votes on real animals and balance real and fantasy features better in development If i look at this like a nerd for a second, the original one gave us phantoms, the others looked quite boring except the blaze one which looked kinda interesting and atleast wouldnt be as consistenty annoying as the phantom The first one that i knew about and realised was there as it was happening was the one that dream rigged to make the glow squids win, i was happy with any of them cause no matter what, they all look very good but i think most people were angry at dream for doing that and they didnt get a fair vote The next one was allays, copper golems and those cute bush moss things that i forgot the name of so obviously thats what i wanted because it looks cute, i think this one aswell as the one that dream rigged were great, they were all good choices and no matter what option, you get something good out of it Next is sniffer, tuff golem and rascal and im kinda upset with this one, obviously mojang rigged it, sniffer sounds so much better than the others but i voted for the tuff golem because less people were gonna vote for him and i wanted there to be more of a chance of it getting in the game cause its a cool idea, what im upset about is that the shit useless piece of shit rascal beat it, how? How do more people vote for a crap looking cavegoblinthing with a chest on his back that gives you mediocre loot after playing hide and seek with you than an objectively awesome idea of a stone pedastal that holds items for you to store and keep on display that decides "actually no, im gonna get up and walk over here" whenever it wants just because it feels like it, thats so comically brilliant, i dont understand people Honestly i feel like people overreact and care too much about things that might not get into the game cause its a vote, at this point people know how the mob vote works, theres no point getting angry with it and rela- motherfucker they didn't, they used real animals!? Ok this is something i never thought they'd do, i thought real animals were out of the question because the mob vote is based on weird fantastical animals with crazy magic bizzare gimmicks and the real animals will and should get a chance to be added to the game seperately, they've never done anything like this and i didnt think they would, think frogs, rabbits, camels, axolotls, bats, parrots, pandas, dolphins, theyre slowly adding them and these are based on real animals that exist in our not fantasy world and should be treated with care because imagine you are a duck lover, you love ducks and ducks are your favourite thing in the world, (duck is a really unfortunate example for typing, the d key is right next to the f key and the u key is right next to the i key) and you also really like minecraft and you've seen them add small animals like ducks, they've added chickens and rabbits and whatever other barnyard animal thats similar, theres a big chance of them eventually one day adding ducks to the game and then one day mojang announce, we're gonna spin a wheel and we've asked 5 different people what their favourite animal in the whole world is and add it as a potential option that gets added to the game, weve also got 5 quirky gimmicks like higher grab reach or making boats go faster or idk maybe dog armour which is something loads of people have really wanted in the game for like a decade that we're attatching to the side of one of the mobs - sorry not mobs, real animals in this mob vote as a side gimmick to an animal that these most people arent gonna care about when voting and one of the options is duck with a pretty shit gimmick attatched to it so you look at it and think "hmm, people arent gonna want my favourite animal is the game because all it can do is quack and lay duck eggs which people wont want as much as dog armour" now remember how it was done before with completely original ideas like dinosaur dog, or blue dancing fairy thats like the opposite of the vex or cow with flowers or statue that comes to life or robot that oxidises, these are all completely original ideas that people have no already existing connection to and now mojang are saying something that people have already known about and liked potentially their whole life could never be added to the game ever because theyve added some random gimmick to the side of it with some clearly being better than others, and then at the end anyway after playing with my emotions they say they're gonna add the penguin anyway! I think what really happened in the last mob vote and the real reason people got upset was it wasnt a vote between a crab, a penguin and an armadildo because if it was, the animal people would've wanted the most is a crab they're cool and everywhere and most people have seen them in real life and want to see them in game, probably followed by penguins because they're cute, and not really an armadillo because noone really knows what it is nearly as much, but no because this was a vote between a grabby claw, going faster in boats and dog armour and i feel like more people that voted saw it as just that, what fun new feature do you want added to the game completely forgetting about the mob and the real animal it was based off and dooming the other 2 to never be added even though they are based off of something that everyone knows about and has maybe wanted at some point Im glad they've gotten rid of it because it was only causing problems but i think they need to realise the balance between reality and fantasy in minecraft and i think the lesson here is dont play with peoples emotions and attachments in the development of minecraft and im looking forward to seeing what the new replacement for the mob vote is gonna be

Fully agree mob vote should have been canceled a while ago but was a good idea to start with. Very happy Mojang decided to do away with it. It might have been more enjoyable if it was done differently don't know how but maybe.

The thing is that if you remove the vote you reduce the games publicity and my fear is that they just put less content out because of the lack of incentive. To be honest the only real solution in my eyes was to restructure is to be the same as the biome vote where the other stuff gets added in a later update while the main thing voted for gets added in the next update. Most people only had an issue with it because the other 2 options got nuked on every vote which was always fucking stupid, why make 3 cool ideas and then scrap 2 of them for the sake of community engagement if that engagement is gonna be bad, just add all 3 and prioritise the one most voted for that way everyone wins.

@@Just_a_random_username When did they say that? Last I heard of it they said that the other mobs got scrapped which was said by Jeb during the first mob vote. I never heard anything about them adding the other mobs I just know they added some of the features the mobs were gonna have as commands.

@@jttitan5915 I couldt tell u an exact source but during the whole crab vs armadillo vs penguin mob vote when the whole community just went full on insane in the midst of the chaos ppl found a statement by mojang that the losing mobs have a chance to be added in a future update if the theme of the update matches the theme of the mob
