We had this song played at our wedding before I walked down the aisle with my Dad. Dad and I both cried. I cried when it talked about grandparents in the second row because mine were too sick to make it. They celebrated 67 years of marriage last month and my grandma passed last week. What a beautiful example they were... I still love this song.

This song chokes me up every time which is surprising I know. I remember when the song came out I had my paradise like he describes. When the children were young and in school life was truly great. Later my wife and I split up the song touched me then because I could so easily identify. Now it touches me because I'm reminded of how blessed I was. I still love the song because I think of my children and wonderful days.

There's a picture of my great grandparents behind Phil's head at the 2:52 mark. They were married for over 70 years. He passed away nearly 10 years ago and she just passed away in June at 98 years old. I have never met a couple that loved each other more than they did. I'm really missing them right now.

Interesting fact; although Vassar is seen playing piano here in the video (also played the piano part during live performances), the liner notes of the "Prayer of a Common Man" album indicate that the piano part on the studio recording is actually played by session keyboardist, Steve Nathan. Other musicians on the song include Reese Wynans on organ, Jeff Smith on guitar and harmony vocals, Greg Morrow on drums, Eric Darken on percussion, B. James Lowry on acoustic guitar, Kenny Greenberg on electric guitar, Russ Pahl on steel guitar and banjo, and Michael Rhodes on bass. Vassar played other piano parts on the "Prayer of a Common Man" album though, including the other songs on the album that were released as singles; "This is My Life", "I Would", and the album's title track, "Prayer of a Common Man". But yes, I love this song and the message it conveys, for when weddings take place, people who otherwise don't really talk to one another, are together and having a good time, that's my interpretation of the song's content anyway.

I literally haven't heard this song in 4 years. Its not a horrible song, but the local country radio station played the hell out of it. T102.1 in Lima, OH was the only station that we could get in our metal shop. They played this song every 3 hrs, and I worked 9 hr shifts. Times that by 6 days a week for months on end, and I literally screamed every time this thing came on. Thats sad because I used to go to Country Concert in Ft. Lauramie. T-102 ruined country for me. Thanks, assholes.
