Now back to the quarter of the original blank that you said, wait for it.....a crack that you didn’t think would let you make a bowl! OK what are you going to make from it? Very nice. Another finish for Russian Olive is to blast it in a blast box (with glass beads for example). That really differentiates the hard and soft groth rings.

That looks beautiful Phil I knew you could fix it!!! I worked for over ten years finishing cabinet doors and trim and the works and one of my trainees over the years said “It’s like you never make a mistake and your work always looks so perfect will I ever be that good?” And I replied “I do make mistakes we all do but with time and experience I seldom cannot figure out how to fix my error without announcing it and I take great pride in my work so I also don’t cut corners and treat each piece as if it were going on display in my own home and yes if you think that way you too can perhaps be better than I am!”

That 5/8 bowl gouge looks to be noticeably shorter than when I started watching your videos over a year ago LOL! You've certainly used it a lot and made a lot of beautiful things.

You are very astute, Stuart! I've been wondering about how much longer I can use it. Luckily, a few months ago I ordered two more just like it. I should be set for years to come!

Very pretty piece Phil. This live edge is very lively looking with a lot of shapes going on. Great tips on sanding as well and a great finish. At 17:16 I see a face where there may have been a branch? Very relaxing video to watch as usual. Take care my friend, Gary

That is a great looking bowl! I do some wood turning but never have done natural edge. From looking at the last couple of videos I may give it a try. Thanks for your videos.

Go for it, D Long! But, I must warn you. Once you start down that path, plain round pieces simply are not interesting anymore. They terrify me. With natural pieces the work is done for you. With plain pieces, it's up to you to come up with a shape, a style, and I'm just not that artistic. 😊
